I watched SO many videos about this and they all said that acetone couldn’t penetrate hard gel and that a drill had to be used. Therefore I bought a drill just for this purpose. I’ve never used an efile before, so I have a lot of learning to do!
Whaaat! No way, acetone does the trick but obviously you need to patient as it takes time. A drill is much faster forsure! I’m glad you came across my video, save your nails!
I would recommend before applying acetone use a balm to lather all around your nail. I use lanolips 101 ointment or burrs bees cuticle balm AND also apply cuticle oil to the underneath of your nail. This will prevent dehydration from the acetone on your natural nail
OMG I need to try this. I had such bad experiences with drills in the salons, esp my last visit where I gave the girl a head up about my sensitivity and she caught an attitude each time that drill heat hurt me. The anxiety I feel about getting gel removal literally has my sweating in my seat at the salon.
Yes! I feel the same way and hated the drill at the salon. I actually got my on drill so if I ever have something that is stubborn that won’t come off, I use it but VERY gently and only ever drill the product, not my nail. Glad I could help!
Thanks a bunch for this video, I’ve been struggling with my nails for so long. I’ve soaked them in acetone but no success. Now I know I have to use 100% 💯 acetone and not just a polish remover
Im nail technician i do remove builder gelish nails this thick buffer can use after, but first you need to use nail filling to make it thin and after put the cotton with acetone and leave it 10mins, and after push the gel and then use buffer for finishing😊
I had builder gel professionally applied and loved them! However the salon was a few hours away and I decided I was going to start appying builder gel at home. But first, remove the builder gel the salon applied - myself. 😣 I tried using an e-file. That was a fail. So, I ended up using a hand file but over filed and damaged my nails and my 3-month growth gone. I was devastated and decided this is NOT for me. Stumbling on your channel has given me hope. I have IBD hard gel and will attempt to apply it as “thin/medium” as you did. Thanks for sharing.
Oh no :( I’m sorry that happened to you! Definitely try it this way, I’m sure you’ll love it! You will also be able to grow your nails back out in no time!
Hello! Aw thanks so much! The video uploaded before this one is a tutorial on how to apply this builder gel. Is that what you’re looking for? It’s titled how to grow naturally long nails (it’s by using builder gel)
I put one on, with the rest polygel, the hard building gel was strong as glass,it took me ages to scrape acetone with the little purple clip, took me ages ,that stuff will B gud Wen I get better at polygel, coz it's a lot harder to remove and sum ppl say u hv to file em off coz acetone won't penetrate the stuff, but it work eventually
Yes acetone does work but you need to buff the surface well to get rid of the shiny top layer. If you don’t do that the acetone won’t penetrate the gel that well :)
No so unfortunately regular nail polish remover is not strong enough to break down gel polish. Even if your remover says "with acetone" its not enough. You will. need 100% acetone for gel polish removal :)
I do not have a video on doing in fills. I am actually a fan of removing the gel and reapplying just to give your nails some air. I also like to cut and reshape prior to applying. But there are lots of great videos on doing a fill here on TH-cam. Just search for IBD gel fill :)
Thank you!! I am in the process of editing alot of footage! We recently bought and renovated our new home and I documented the whole journey! So yes I will be coming back :)
Does this 100% acetone method only work with ibd builder gel or with all builder gel brands? Also, how long should i cure it? One last question: how long should I leave the gel on between removal and re-application?
This works with IBD but could work with other builder gel. Cure for atleast 60 seconds under the lamp at each stage. It’s your choice for how long you should wait, when you feel it’s grown out enough you can reapply it :)
You can just infill as well! I sometimes like to remover everything to check the health of my nails and give them some air but infilling is totally fine too!
No you don’t have to but I would recommend atleast buffing the top coat if you’re going to fill your nails and apply more gel, this will help the gel stick better! :)
Cuticle oil question! Can you apply throughout the weeks of having a gel mani to not go so long between hydration? I find the more often I apply it the better my cuticles do but I’m worried about shortening the life of my gel mani if I apply it once a day or every few days.
Yes you can apply cuticle oil between manicures, a couple times week is probably best. You can also use lotions/body butters for hydration as well :) just take the extra time to rub it in those areas when putting hand lotion on!
The gel I had in this video was a medium thickness as it was layered and also had an extra layer of the glitter on the tips. Usually when I apply overly I will do 1-2 coats to make sure it gives strength to my nails. However this method will work with a thicker layer but might take a little longer for the acetone to break down all of it :)
No they are different products. I would say builder gel is more user friendly for at home application. Some people do tend to use this term interchangeably so it can get confusing
Yes technically it is not considered a soak off product however acetone will break it down enough to remove it like showed in the video. You will need to buff the top layer to have it soak through and be patient until it softens.
I’ve been soaking for over an hour and it’s not coming off. I spent an hour before filing the down by hand and I’m not sure what to do 😭 I have no money either and almost outta acetone 😭😭😭😭😭😭
So many confused ladies, so here’s my advice: there’s HARD gel and SOFT gel. HARD gel needs file to remove. SOFT gel can be soaked off. So, if you tried to soak off but it didn’t work, chances are big that your salon used hard gel. It’s an add-on sale for them to have them remove your gel 😉
This didn’t work for my builder gel nails at all. I soaked them for hours and ended up destroying my nails pulling them off. Next time, I’ll just go to the salon if they need to file it.
I watched SO many videos about this and they all said that acetone couldn’t penetrate hard gel and that a drill had to be used. Therefore I bought a drill just for this purpose. I’ve never used an efile before, so I have a lot of learning to do!

I used the idb hard gel and the acetone doesn't even touch it
Do you buff the top layer of your hard gel before applying acetone? You need to do this step so it’s easier to penetrate the surface.
@TwoAfterIDo yes i do my nails are sore from the filing. I will have to check my acetone
@bommarito73 yeah, make sure you are using 100% acetone. Nail polish remover with acetone is not strong enough, only pure acetone will work.

You’re welcome!! Yes use 100% acetone but I wouldn’t recommend soaking. It’s pretty strong and putting your skin in it for so long does not seem good!
I have tried everything to remove hard gel and even pure acetone doesn’t penetrate the product. The only way that I can remove is filing
Do you normally file the surface to remove the shiny layer first?

Hello, I’m new to your channel, and I binged watched many of your videos. May you please share a video on how you apply this hard gel?
Hello! Aw thanks so much! The video uploaded before this one is a tutorial on how to apply this builder gel. Is that what you’re looking for? It’s titled how to grow naturally long nails (it’s by using builder gel)
Thank you. I couldn't even find tutorials from the gel compan ies
You’re welcome!

Girl you are so good .. thank you much
Aw thanks! You’re welcome :)
Do you ever use remover polish (instead of acetone soaked cotton balls)? If not, why? Thank you!
No so unfortunately regular nail polish remover is not strong enough to break down gel polish. Even if your remover says "with acetone" its not enough. You will. need 100% acetone for gel polish removal :)
O goodness those clips! Game changer!
Yes! And they are so affordable!
Yesss! Got mine from dollar tree
did you post the video on how to infill the builder gel? and could you share the link if so..i couldn't find it! TY!
I do not have a video on doing in fills. I am actually a fan of removing the gel and reapplying just to give your nails some air. I also like to cut and reshape prior to applying. But there are lots of great videos on doing a fill here on TH-cam. Just search for IBD gel fill :)
This was really helpful! You have beautiful nails!! Are you still vlogging?

I’m trying to grow my thin damaged nails out after a lot of gel sets and i want to get them to be healthy and longer :)
This works with IBD but could work with other builder gel. Cure for atleast 60 seconds under the lamp at each stage. It’s your choice for how long you should wait, when you feel it’s grown out enough you can reapply it :)
Do you have to totally remove the gel and redo each time or can you just infill?
You can just infill as well! I sometimes like to remover everything to check the health of my nails and give them some air but infilling is totally fine too!
I needed this video so bad. Thank you
You’re welcome!! ☺️
Do you have to remove the builder gel every time you redo your dip nails?
No you don’t have to but I would recommend atleast buffing the top coat if you’re going to fill your nails and apply more gel, this will help the gel stick better! :)
I absolutely ♥️ your mail videos! I'll be doing my nails and feet one day this week.
Thank you!! I’m so glad it was helpful :) tag me on social media if you post a pic of your nails! @twoafterido

You absolutely can. If doing so shortens the life of your manicure that means your manicure was applied incorrectly
💯
How thick or thin is this overlay removal? Is the IBD overlay thin?
The gel I had in this video was a medium thickness as it was layered and also had an extra layer of the glitter on the tips. Usually when I apply overly I will do 1-2 coats to make sure it gives strength to my nails. However this method will work with a thicker layer but might take a little longer for the acetone to break down all of it :)
Can I use 100% pure acetone?
Yes, 100% pure acetone is the only thing that will work. You cannot use nail polish remover with added acetone as it’s not strong enough.
@@CreateYourSpace_. thank you. Do you know why your nail may look like if you have hit it under the builder gel if you haven’t hit it?
@tiiiadore1455 no sorry! I would say if you are concerned you should remove the gel and check the health of your nail to avoid further damage.
@@CreateYourSpace_. thank you so much I’ll take it off now and check it
Good luck!
Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome!
Hi is hard gel and builder gel the same thing
No they are different products. I would say builder gel is more user friendly for at home application. Some people do tend to use this term interchangeably so it can get confusing
@@CreateYourSpace_. thank you
Builder gel does not soak off right? Am I wrong?
Yes technically it is not considered a soak off product however acetone will break it down enough to remove it like showed in the video. You will need to buff the top layer to have it soak through and be patient until it softens.
Queeeeeen thank you 🙏 💕
You’re welcome!! :)

HARD gel needs file to remove.
SOFT gel can be soaked off.

Great clarification!
Are you sure you using hard gel .
This is IBD builder gel I use in the video :)
This didn’t work for my builder gel nails at all. I soaked them for hours and ended up destroying my nails pulling them off. Next time, I’ll just go to the salon if they need to file it.
Oh no that sucks! Could be the brand of gel that was used, salon sounds like the best bet for you!
What brand is your builder hair?
