    Love this. Added a black background and will post pix later. Water them only once a week or once every two weeks, and let them drain, and dry out between waterings. For a sturdy indoor plant, buy a small Ponytail palm, put it in a south or east window, and water it sparsely, maybe only once a month. You can let it grow to fill the pot, or if you want it to be a giant, you can transplant it yearly. I have one that is more than 50 years old, and survived a teething puppy!

    i cannot even begin to describe how much i wanted to be part of this convo the whole time. i got so much out of this lesson, and the purple thing its truee! it was made out of a certain kind of snail,. but theyre so small that they had to get a lot to make just a bit of good purple.
    Thank u guys for all those technical tips, this is by far the lesson ive got the most out of.

Returned last week to this same project with more confidence after practicing on other pictures and now felt so good about it. What I mean to say is that practice, practice, practice. There’s a lot of beautiful projects in this website so you can have a lot of inspiration. Keep on painting. 😍

      Are you using tracing paper or just graphite? Might be why your getting dark marks. Try a new package that comes in a variety of colours and see if it makes a difference. Mine did. No more random marks.

    This is really good! I've had an epiphany! I finally realise that really good watercolour is about layer, after layer to achieve a good result.
    On a side note, I tried downloading the outline today and the website now asks me for my address (which I've inputted already) and now asks me for my credit card details...... I sent an email to your help desk so hopefully it will sort itself out.

    This is been really fascinating. Not only because of the painting but of the botany. My background is in mathematics and physics, optics in particular. Pigments and light. behave so differently. But I find it extremely fascinating to learn more about plants. I particularly favor trees, and I’m fascinated by the diversity of trees. But isn’t all life awesome?

    As a child, I struggled with reading sometimes because my eyes would separate out the blue from the black ink in books, and it would overlap the letters and make my eyes hurt. I just went down the wormhole of learning about tetrachromacy thanks to y'all, and apparently unintentionally separating colors like that (and it being bad enough to actually bother your eyes) is one of the signs of tetrachromacy. I am definitely going to ask my eye doctor about it at my next exam.

    Regular photosynthesis is C3 - C4 is the efficient CO2 usage photosynthesis you're talking about!! CAM photosynthesis is special because it decouples the CO2 part from the sunlight part, so that these plants can open their stomata - little leaf pores to let CO2 in - at night when it's cool, so that they minimise water loss. It's actually much LESS efficient, but in the desert, sunlight is plentiful so it's not a problem 😄. The grey-blue colour is also to minimise water loss because it's more reflective and less heat absorbent!!!

  • @friedaschnell3729
    @friedaschnell3729 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your home printed succulent is a very true color also. Color or the hue to many succulents have everything to do with the condition they grow in.
    My name is Frieda and I’m a succulent junkie. I have both succulents plus a few. 🙄😉 or a bunch. Michael buy Sarah a String of Pearls
    To keep a watering schedule I find a pattern to help me remember. Wednesday = WATER …..and….. Thursday = Thirsty. I can remember and grace myself 2 days to remember to check to see if they need water and get it done. You learn to know which need it weekly or biweekly or monthly. It also depends whether it’s a growing season. I tend to err on less water than more. Some succulents (like Lithops) grow during winter. They’ll die if you overwater.

    • @LetsMakeArt
      @LetsMakeArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That watering tip is life. Thank you for sharing.

  • @dianecuthbertson2686
    @dianecuthbertson2686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Don’t overwater your succulents, depending on the size they only need around half a cup for large or one or two tablespoons for small per month of water, I normally end up killing plants due to overwatering, so I’m trying to really be more drought like 😂

    • @pumkin54
      @pumkin54 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on where you live. If I watered my succulents that infrequently, they would probably die. Every two weeks at the most for me, and I have some that in the summer require once a week or they really start to show their distress.
