It's mesmerising the way the paints "obey" wet v. dry areas and stay put inside the wet outlines. As a beginner born under the sign of the bull I will be reckless and have a go straight away as my daughter left years ago to study fine art leaving a lot of materials in my safe keeping he-he! I reckon paint & paper need airing! Thank you Emma for the divine inspiration, I love your work.
I learned recently that rolling your kneaded eraser over your sketch rather than rubbing it is much better for the integrity of the paper and also it lightens your sketch just perfectly without erasing it completely!! Love this and it seems like the perfect afternoon activity to assuage and distract my extremely nervous countenance😅 Quarantine day 12 got me like 😬😅🥴😳😅😳😅😳😅😳😅😳🤭🤭🤭🤢🤢🤢😥😥😥😥🤔🤔🤔😥😥😥😰😰😰😰😱😱😱😱😱😓😓😓😓😓😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Thank you for these free tutorials! i love how you talk about the mistakes that happen while painting and how you help us overcome our fears around them by demonstrating how to rectify them! absolutely love all your tutorials and enjoy painting them and my cat also recognizes your voice now! :)
OMG!! I did it. I did it and it turned out great. All your previous tips came together in my head and it all made sense. Probably helped that the drawing part was simple and I could concentrate on the painting aspect. Learned to go light - instead of too dark too soon. Thanks so much for doing this. You finally made a lightbulb go off in my head.
Thank you so much for these lessons. My stuck at home college freshman daughter and I are enjoying them so much...really taking her mind off being home. ☺️
I have a backyard full of these and have wanted to paint because I love them. All those layers were pretty intimidating till you showed how to do. Now I think I can tackle this one. Thank you so much for the learning through all this down time we have😊
Lovely Emma and the big boy is cute too!!!! Thanks for giving me something else to do this weekend..... We grow succulents inside in Minnesota. Happy spring stay healthy and safe. Hugs.....
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
@Javier Kannon thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you so much for these tutorials they are fantastic! Also my daughter educated me about watching the ads to give you revenue. I never knew not to skip. Hopefully that is a little way to show my appreciation for your time as these have been so fantastic during this stay at home.
He is just so cute, love seeing him. Your painting came out so beautiful, you should buy a frame for it and proudly display it in your home somewhere. Thanks for the video.
Hi Emma, This is just the inspiration and information I needed to finish a piece I had given up on. Now, I’ll go ahead with confidence. Thank you, you are a dear...and so talented.
Love succulents but too hot here to do well. The colors are beautiful enjoyed the lesson look forward to all of them now that we are at home. Your little guy is adorable treasure each day with him they grow up so quickly.
Tank you Emma for your nice videos they are really nice to watch. You are a great artist and you explain it very well to all off us at TH-cam. Kh Luise from Denmark.😎
Loved this tutorial, Emma! Really helpful, great tips, and you have such an encouraging, easy-going way about you that says, "you can do it, too"! Thanks so much :)
Such a GORGEOUS succulent! Really enjoying painting with you. It is helping keep my sanity during isolation! LOVE seeing your PRECIOUS little boy. “Hooray!!” 😀
Your son is getting so big, he's adorable!! And succulents/cacti are my favorite plants, I'm so excited you did this tutorial! I'm glad to have this beauty in a crazy time. Thank you, Emma!
Oh my Gosh that is beautiful. Oh I wish I could paint like you. I keep going. Maybe some day . If even only half . The colors are so nicely blended. Thankyou for this tutorial.
OUCH! Your eraser is like fingernails on a. Chalkboard to my ears! Tip.... use a kneaded eraser. Roll it lightly over the pencil marks and it will lighten the lines without any damage to your paper. Your succulent is beautiful!!
Hi Emma. I want to say that you made that stunning painting look so easy to do. I am going to give it a try. I only have cheap paper and cotman paint but I'm hoping to create something reasonably like yours. Here's hoping anyway lol. I'd like to ask you a few questions please? Is the paper you used for this painting 100% cotton? It didnt seem to buckle or show an sign of the amount of water you were using on it? My next question is, do you stretch your paper before you use it? And if its 100% cotton is that still a requirement? Sorry for the many questions but I am completely new to watercolour painting and I don't always know what I'm supposed to do to get the best results. Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to try to paint. Your videos have inspired me hugely over the last few years. I am a bit fan of yours. Oh and P. S your son is super cute. He looks like you so much. I think he has your smile. Thanks again for your help. From a fan in South Wales. UK.
Carly Charlesworth thank you so much. So I use arches paper which is my absolute favourite. It is 100% cotton. I do not stretch it before I paint. The paper does warp a bit but not much.
Just beautiful Emma! Love the way it turned out. I think since technically it’s a plant, they would be considered leaves? 🤷🏼♀️☺️❤️ I live in Arizona, so they are everywhere around here.😁
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ Just about to paint this gorgeous succulent when I noticed all the colours listed in your, Materials Used. Firstly, thank you FOR listing your palette, (it’s surprising how many tutorial artists that don’t list a single pigment -🤬) Secondly, is it safe to guess your material list is listing ALL your supplies you use on the daily and not solely for this painting? (I saw Bee Paper listed, however you mentioned you were painting on Arches.) Alright, cheers 🍻 from Niagara Falls. Be safe.
Joanne C Labelle hi there, yes the materials listed are all my supplies that I use throughout my videos as a whole. I listed bee paper but also the arches paper I use.
When I blend out the colors I get a distinct water line once it dries no matter how I blend, unless I blend all the way out. What's up? It's high quality paper :(
I LOVE THIS PAINTING! Would like to see more of your watercolor succulents, they are all so unique and beautiful.
It's mesmerising the way the paints "obey" wet v. dry areas and stay put inside the wet outlines. Great camera shots and angles. Ur a godsend. Thank ur hubby for watching the baby!

Beautiful, Emma - tks!
They are leaves! If they sprout stems from the center of the rosette with flowers at the tops (like mine don't), those have petals.
Gorgeous painting Emma! :)

Emma, Love your tutorials, I would like to request you to make a tutorial for butterfly painting
Pilot Color Eno are great for watercolour, because they vanish into the colour. 😊👍

Did you pick your sweater to match the succulent?

I can’t seem to get the right greenish color like yours mines looks straight turquiouse and purple
No Mistakes!!! Happy Accidents!!!
