- DIY Cowl Neck Halter Dress !
↓↓ Detailed steps bellow ↓↓
Supplies
-sewing machine
-fabric
-scissors
-measuring tape
-pins
-thread
-paper
-ruler
Step 1 - Measure your under bust (from side seam to side seam)
Step 2 - Measure your large hips (from side seam to side seam)
Step 3 - Measure length from where you want the cowl neck to the length of the dress
Step 4 - Measure length for the other side of the dress (I did an asymmetrical hem line)
Step 5 - Use all these measurements and transfer onto your pattern paper and connect with smooth curved lines as shown in the drawing
Step 6 - fold over and mirror the cowl part (from cowl line to under boob measurement)
Step 7 - add seam allowance and cut out your front pattern piece
**make sure to keep the lines smooth between your measurements
Step 8 - outline the bottom half to make your back piece pattern (7-10cm above the large hip measurement) and then I took it in about 3cm on each side (again smooth lines while connecting)
Step 9 - fold over and mirror for the cowl bit on the back
Step 10 - mark a diagonal line on your two pattern pieces so you know to cut on the bias
Step 11 - measure the length of the hem and times that by 1.25. This length will be the frill piece with a width of 5cm
Step 12 - cut out the pattern pieces (front, back, frill piece, and then a couple extra thin strips for the straps)
Step 13 - finish off the top of the front and back pieces with a zigzag stitch
Step 14 - sew the front and back pieces together (side seams) and make sure to fold over the mirrored cowl neckline and back that you created in your pattern
Step 15 - now ready to attach the straps. with right sides together attach the strap onto the unfinished sides of the front piece. make sure there's enough on both sides to tie a bow in the back and around the neck
Step 16 - trim the straps to your desired thickness
Step 17 - fold the strap over, tuck it, and pin it through the seam line making sure to trap all the layers of fabric. do this for both sides
Step 18 - continue folding the strap pieces over and pinning along the entire strap length
Step 19 - sew the straps and tie knots at all four ends
Step 20 - do the same zigzag finish on one side of your frill piece
Step 21 - on the other side of this piece do a basting stitch (longest stitch on the machine) with no back stitch. pull on the loose thread to create gathers (it should be gathered enough that it becomes the same length as the hem (it is 1.25 times bigger naturally, and we need to gather it down .25)
Step 22 - sew the ends of this frill piece together to create a loop
Step 23 - pin the frill piece to the bottom of your dress and sew

Omg this video is amazing! So helpful!!! About how many yards did you need for this?
Thank you !! It depends on your height - I’m 5’2 and If I’m strategic cutting my pieces I can get away using 1 yard. Id get two just to be safe 🤗
