As a mother, her words at 8:55 break my heart. “Sometimes I think I should tell mama...”
My children have told me when someone is bullying them. I took care of it. One of my children told me when they were feeling depressed. I got them help. One of my children told me they are bi. I told them how much I love and support them. My children could never tell me anything to make me love them any less. I have to think most mamas are that way.
Children, tell mama. Always tell mama. ❤️
J McIntosh She was afraid it would be too much of a burden for her mamma, who had many other troubles, according to the letter.
Dolores Reynolds - No, I understand why she didn’t, but as a mother I know I am never too overburdened to help my child. I am sure Grace’s mama would have felt the same and wished Grace had confided in her. The poor sweet girl. She must have felt so alone! 💔
@@MisplacedTexan I am sure her mother would not have been unburdened, especially the way she talked about her in her letter. However, the problem was the era she was living in and an unmarried mother would have meant 'disgrace'.
One of your children tells you he murdered someone.
Aneesa Ali - No.... lol. I meant that she should have told her mother she was pregnant. Where’d you get murder? 😂
I live in South Otselic , Grace is Buried in our little cemetery. Her little farm is still standing and is now for sale.
Thank you for sharing that.
wow!
Aww really , bless her soul, she was just a kid in love.
You must have been surprised when this story appeared.
Gosh I hope someone leaves flowers for her 💛
personally i'd appreciate sticking to the older cases just because modern murder cases are so publicized it's easy to get information on them. the majority of your videos bring cases to light that i'd never heard of before, and i like that about them
My husband and I look forward to the historical stories. I really like the true unsolved mystery or paranormal stories you do . Thanks Oddie !

electric Aquarius I agree!
electric Aquarius
I agree!
I agree I haven't heard half of them I'm a true crime reader.
What a waste of youthful life??
Pregnant girl drowned by her lover.
Thanks Oddie, well delivered narration
It's sad to to think about, that she probably thought he was going to propose to her the exact moment he killed her. Thank you so much, I love your videos and your channel.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Julia - very much appreciated :)
I thought so, too, at first. However, toward the end, Oddie mentions that she left writing stating that if she ended up dead maybe her mother might not be angry with her. Leads me to believe she might have known her lover more than she cared to admit to herself. And that she might have wished for a marriage proposal, but may also have anticipated what actually happened :(
@@ObsoleteOddity I do really love the way you narrated the whole...and then add the bits at the end. It is absolutely entrancing.
There are plenty of people doing contemporary stories, I think historical stories is your niche.
Exactly, love the old 1s
I love the old stories
I agree. I don’t think anything should change. However a few modern stories peppered in may bring more traffic to the channel. just a thought.
I enjoy the old stories very much! Your voice really suits them too!
This is exactly what I was going to say. Oddie's speciality is these super old stories, and he does them beautifully.
Please continue with the older stories, TV, the internet, etc are flooded with contemporary stories.
Yes love the the older true crime stories I'm a fan on true crime
Love these old stories
As a history buff, I noticed a trend of romanticism of the past. We forget about the horrifying and sad murders and crimes of the past. I love your historical content, its literally the only reason I subscribed. The modern cases are a dime a dozen.
I like the historical cases best. Many of them have been all but forgotten. You videos breathe new light into them.
Well I’m answering this question about a year late, but I like the older cases. I feel like it gives the long forgotten victims a voice
No modern stories, please. I like the old ones!
Over 100 years ago, it's by far modern...
I agree , the old stories are the best of the best ,
nepeanunofficial_ they aren’t saying this is modern
@@southernpacific7200 I thought that originally also, and wrote a similar comment somewhere else, which I had to go back and delete. He said at the end of this, that some people wanted him to cover modern cases, so people are saying no, they like the older content (like this one is considered).
What attracted me to your channel is that you present old stories. I have heard many recent and new stories and I just find the old ones to be a very unique and interesting, especially because they were at a different time period. I look forward to your post. I hope that the vote is to keep the old stories and outnumber the new.
I wear my T-Shirt proudly & often! I not only love the design, I like telling folks to check out Oddie's channel. I vote for sticking to historical (& creepy) stories.
Stay Unique, Oddie. Please.
Thank you so much my friend! If someone bumps into in the street one day, smiles and warmly pumps your hand....it's me!
Shirt? I haven't been online for awhile, there's a shirt? I want one! Where can I order & how much?
Lydia, the link to Oddie's merchandise is above in the info area (click on the "show more" to see the video description & Oddie's links). There are LOTS of design options to choose from. All creepy-cool. ;-)
t shirts? ??id love one. where please?
i find a scary story from my travels around the internet i will send you the link no i am not a robot if any one was going to ask
I prefer older. No trouble finding new ones. Love your channel and your voice !
Please continue with the "vintage cases!) You do them so well and they are of far greater interest for that reason...and of course all the love and hard work you put into bringing them to light. With much appreciation 💛💜
Oddy, I found the information on the second boat incident a month later. It was a lady by the name of Katherine Stryker and she drowned and then her boyfriend committed suicide. New York Daily Tribune, June 26, 1906. They believe her death to be accidental. I have the article if you'd like. I wish I could attach it in the comments.
Her picture is just to the left of the story in the paper under "Thaw."
Late, but still, a theory: that the deaths weren't connected does not necessarily have to mean it's coincidence though, does it? I admit I have no idea of the geography here, but technically, if Gillette had access to this newspaper (article), maybe it gave him the idea for the "method". Would fit with him trying to pass Grace death off as "an(other) accident" as well. Obviously this is just a personal thought process though - there might really be no connection here at all.
@@xNeariax I believe you are absolutely correct! Since May, Gillette had been ignoring and rebuffing Grace's pleas and letters. Then on July 5th he suddenly wrote to her to ask her to go away with him to Big Moose Lake. Why the change of heart all of sudden? Well, there was a newspaper story of a lady named Katherine Stryker who may have "accidentally" drowned off a rowboat in New Jersey. The story was printed in the New York Tribune, which at that time was the largest circulation in New York City and the editorials were widely read, shared, and copied in other city newspapers, including Cortland, NY. Gillette read the story of Katherine's death on *June 26th, 1906* and only ONE week later on *July 3rd,* Gillette asked Grace to go on their ill-fated trip and put his plan in motion. I strongly agree with you that the idea to get rid of her in an "accidental" drowning was brought on by the Katherine Stryker case. So that's why there was an unusual "coincidence" of TWO eerily similar deaths that occurred within a month of each other.
Poor woman. I love the old forgotten stories.
Poor guy, too........
MadHatterDJ yeah that's a really good way to describe them. I voted for that too
Historical cases please. I'll vote too🎈
Yes I love that you do the peculiar old and strange stories that mostly goes overlooked! Great story teller for that!
I'm glad she got her justice. Some men are just evil. It was the outrage part and the fact that he was a Gillett---they had money. Have you done a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield? They said it's very haunted and you may be to meet some of the soldiers. Thanks again, Oddie.
Personally I think the older stories are fascinating and intriguing, I love seeing all the old pictures ,buildings , and historical information I receive from your stories . Your lovely accent is so melodic and just makes the stories so much more enjoyable! Please keep up the great work ! I truly look forward to each new story , Ghost stories are my favorite ,murder mystery is my second favorite!
I love the historical cases you do! The mystery is increased by the stories being in an era long past.
Love the historical features. We have so much input on current events. These are my escape. Thank you.
Historical is my favorite!! Keep your formatting the same!! Thanks
ObsoleteOddity - thank you so much for the clear concise story of this case. Such a travesty for her and the baby. There was two murders that day. The one thing that stood out for me, is permitting people to pass by his jail cell to have their say. This was not a common happening, was it?
Thank you so much for your stories. I’m in my mid 60’s, so old enough to remember more current cases. I particularly like cases before my time. Those I can’t “remember”, so having them brought to my attention is exciting.
Diana Flor..I'm in total agreement with you!!.Enough of the newer stories, the older the better.
@Obsolete Oddity: Such a sad story and considering the period it's amazing they prosecuted a man for a woman's murder & first degree no less. Really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing.
Oddie, Your vids are THE BEST! Thank you for telling a woman's story who could've ever told it herself. I like your old stories best, truthfully. ❤️
I remember watching the movie "A Place in the Sun" with Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift and Shirley Winters. That movie must have been based on this heartbreaking story. Thank you for sharing it.
Wow yes this movie is based on this story ! I would love to watch it ! Thank you 😁
Loved that movie. Didn't know it was based on a real story.. Cool
@@083stacey The movie is very nasty to Grace Brown.
I just found this channel yesterday. I like that you create videos of the old cases. They are in my opinion, harder to research or find for that matter, so this is unique. So many channels focus on the 70s-present day crimes. Keep up the work this channel deserves more viewers.
Yay Oddie! Another great story from the past eloquently told, you never disappoint. Please stay with the older historical pieces, the internet is crawling with the more modern ones, and these that you bring us take me back to a different time. Of the ideas put forward I'd prefer bedtime fairytales by Oddie, the original creepy versions. The Brothers Grimm actually cleaned many of them up thinking they were too dreadful for their adult audience, but even their versions told by you would rock. I'm so glad to see the channel growing so steadily, and I introduce my friends to you regularly. Keep up the great work my friend. 🖤🇨🇦
Wow, so she knew he may kill her! Justice prevailed

I enjoy the historic stories! We hear enough about current events! :-( My vote is for your historic stories...I thoroughly enjoy them!
Yes, I too get tired of current events - like taking a repreive from it all and going back to historical stories. I love history - liked it enough to get a major degree in it. Avery nice respite to all the hate, turmoil, and global battle.
Sunflowers Are Awesome : I agree with all your thoughts. Oddie, I think you have a captive audience that enjoys historic, true strange stories. (Ghost)
This story, and your way of telling it, makes it seem like a tragic opera.
I'm with you.
Yes please
I think you should create what makes you happy and intrigues you. This was your passion to start with, we are just getting to enjoying it! Please don't lose yourself in the numbers!
(I will admit that I was one who did ask for voice and words so everyone could enjoy hearing and sighted but I would have continued to watch if you had chosen to not do it) I am so sad seeing other youtubers just whittled away from the reason they started putting videos up. 💜🐢
Mary Ann &Kerri
That was very Good
Thank u for letting him
Know and the encouragement
I think he should add bedtime stories to his repertoire, love the voice.
I agree, your videos are great they way they are. No need to sway from your craft....and obselete means old. Meaning historical or outdated, love the name.
ZuZu Beard That is a totally cool idea. I’d love to hear him read “The Velveteen Rabbit.”
As always you have mesmerized me with another narrated story. Such a tragic tale. I do appreciate the way prisoners were dealt with in those days. Now murder is 25 to life whatever that means. It was such a scandal to be an unwed mother in those days. Now it's like a way of life. Thank you again Oddie, you always make my night!
Thanks for your very kind feedback Kathy - much appreciated! 🎩
Nowadays it's shocking if one isn't an unwed mother.
What a great way to start a day; or end it, depending on one's time zone. I'm starting. Thanks Oddy!
I save these specially to watch before bed. It's awesome.
Such a sad and tragic story. 😟💔
At least he got what he deserved in the end.
Your videos are amazing and I enjoy watching them everytime. ☺👏
Yes, this kind of justice, sadly, is not often heard in modern news stories. The bad guy always seems to get away now a days, pleads insanity or poverty or some sort of sad circumstance. I guess back in the day, justice was more common?
T Lynn omg yes
Yes, at least he had to pay for it. Unlike a lot of other weathy family's sons who get away with it because of their name, like Ted Kennedy.
if she would have gotten abortion shed be alive. imagine that.
@@KossolaxtheForesworn
If she didn't die from the abortion.
I prefer the historical cases / stories. However, the problem is for the modern day viewer to get the full flavor of the historical era, the back story is as important as the main story. But, your voice is so enticingly charming you could read the list of ingredients off of a soup can and I would listen intently! Your chops! Wow!
My mom heart broke when she said she wished she could tell her mama. As her mama, I would have gone out to the lake and talked to her spirit.
Things like this is why I always told my kids, they can talk to me about anything. Even if they think or know I might get mad or sad. I want to know so we can get through whatever together. That they'll always be my babies and I am their safe place, no matter what the world throws at them. My daughter says that's what made it easier to come out when she did. I was the first one she came to about it and I was the one who helped her tell the family. We are each others support system. My heart breaks for Ms. Grace. Wish I could hug her.
I have been obsessed with your channel for a week now. I love that you are focused on historical events instead of modern. Hopefully you will stay true the historical tales. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into the past thats not all prim and proper like we were taught in school. Fascinating just fascinating.
Thanks very much for your kind feedback Dustine 😊 much appreciated!
I come from Canberra in Australia. There is a lake called LAKE GEORGE on the outskirts of the city, which is in a basin and is an unusual geographical site; the lake can be empty for many years and then suddenly fill in a few hours to an enormous depth. In the 1950's, 5 officer cadets from the Military academy drowned in the lake on a rowing excursion ( which seems impossible for a still water lake ... and very fit young men) - then several months later exactly the same number of people drowned in another freak boating incident. Its always been a curious and spooky thing. perhaps your listeners would enjoy an episode on this? it is truly weird.
I love that you do historical cases! YT is flooded with contempo cases, but hardly anyone bothers to research and present oldies. It's one of the things that really sets you apart.
Really enjoy your stories. You are very good at reading them. Your pronunciation is perfect. Please keep the stories coming
Actually spent summers as a teen at Big Moose Lake AND in the building once known as THE GLENMORE. My uncle and older cousin had purchased the old hotel in the late 60's. Only the basement, main floor and part of 2nd floor were stable. The place was enormous. Unc and cuz made separate summer units on 1st level and basement respectively. There was a huge, ornate ballroom/dining room on main, where me and my large family would stay. Remember exploring upper floors( creepy for sure, strange noises often) and even found an old ledger dated 1911 signed by vacationers from across U.S. and Europe. Also some photographs! The hotels' history details it as one of the Adirondacks classiest summer resorts of that era.
Neither owns the property now. Only heard about the Brown/Gillette case recently, so I've been delving deeper into the story. Thanks for the intriguing tale, and images of the hotel. Memories plenty!
I saw this case covered by a different channel and started watching. It had been okay, but then I saw it had been covered by Oddy, I switched over and it was night and day. Oddy, your voice is so satisfying to listen to. And your presentation is always top notch.
That’s wonderful feedback, thank you very much for the compliment 😊🙏
I love the historical stories, I think the newer ones are over ran, it's so nice to hear about ones I've never heard of. it makes me excited to learn again knowing there is still something new to hear about!
I don't think anyone would doubt your ability to tell a great modern story, however; I think most come to your channel to see what you have currently. Your popularity has grown on that and I guess just speaking for myself, I'd like to just see more of the same. Great content mate, I hope your channel keeps growing!
This was the basis for the Theodore Dreiser story "An American Tragedy" which was later made into the movie A Place in the Sun which one of your viewers mentioned. The story seemed to fascinate.
Cheers
Pat
After watching this video, I came to the comments to see if anyone else had noticed the similarities between this case and the movie "A Place in the Sun". I didn't know about the book, but I had watched the movie which starred Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, and Shelley Winters.
I hated that film, it made the Grace character out to be a nagging common little hag.
That was me. I asked Oddie to share the story. He did a good job.
Yes, it is the same story. It also inspired the theme of several versions of the old folk song Pretty Polly. I used to perform that song with acoustic guitar, after I'd found it in an old song book. Then found another version which was inspired by an even older case. There are many renditions of that song with different outcomes and themes based on this and other real cases that were similar. So over the years, I've occasionally combined several versions, and shortened others to form it into a song that tells the stories together, without it being too long to perform. That led me to read the Theodore Dreiser book. Strange creepy coincidence: just as I finished reading the final page of the book, I realized that in the background on television was being played this exact story on the show Unsolved Mysteries. How freaky is THAT!!! They were talking about the ghost of Grace Brown appearing in and near the water of Big Moose Lake, and how visitors there who'd seen it didn't know the story until after they saw her in the water or on shore. When they found out the story from the locals, they were shown her picture. It was a spot on match. Thank you for the very informative and interesting video. Keep on doing these old ones. BTW, I just watched your Ed Gein video. I happen to live about thirty miles from Plainfield Wisconsin. I almost bought a place that borders one of the cemeteries he robbed(in Hancock Wisconsin), not knowing it at that time. Spooky stuff with interesting history indeed. I'd love to see you do some videos on The Grimes Sisters, Resurrection Mary, and Capones haunted Willow Springs Illinois hangouts(in particular, O'Henrys 1 and 2 with tunnels between and to cemetery.) I grew up near that area in Illinois, and know that geographically it would be worth the trip to do all of those locations as feasible distance is easy to cover due to their close proximity to each other. And if possible, someday do one on Boleskine House in Scotland.
I caught that too. An American Tragedy was a truly tragic story and a great American novel.
Love your soothing voice. Picture content and knack for telling these stories. Your the best at what you do. Until next time. Thank you for the adventure.
It was me, that mentioned the story to you Oddie! Thanks for doing the story & thank you for the cheers! I think the newspaper got their reporting wrong and mixed up 2 separate stories. I read a report that women flocked to his cell & wanted his autograph. Do the stories of the past, you do beautiful work!
I started listening for the historical content, we have enough truecrime podcasts, keep it to the oldies! Much love, huge fan
The movie "A Place in the Sun" did paint Gillette's character in a more sympathetic light. Brown's character was portrayed as a whiny annoyance. She was seen as nothing more than a stumbling block for Clift's character to overcome in order to attain his true love, Elizabeth Taylor. It is good to see the story told in the proper light, even though I still like the movie too.
Clift not Cliff. Sorry for the autocorrect mistake.😊
Yes later the media tried to make it look like Grace was a gold digging shrew, and that Chester was the innocent victim of her plan to force him to marry her.
ObsoleteOddity Thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment! 😊
As to your reply, it is very sad. Unfortunately that is often the case, especially when the defense lawyers use the tactic of putting the victim on trial as a way of shifting the blame off of their client.
❤❤❤
I was thinking the same thing but could not think of the movie ☺thanks..im now at peace
The trial endures through books, movies and theatrical presentations. Theodore Dreiser’s 1925 best-selling novel “An American Tragedy” is based on the trial. Two books were published in 1986: “Murder in the Adirondacks: An American Tragedy Revisited” by Craig Brandon and “Adirondack Tragedy” by Joseph Brownell and Patricia Enos. Austrian- American filmmaker Josef von Sternberg directed the 1931 movie “An American Tragedy, “ and the 1951 film “A Place in the Sun,” with Elizabeth Taylor, is also based on the Dreiser novel. The Metropolitan Opera in New York City commissioned “An American Tragedy,” a two-act operatic version of the story by composer Tobias Picker with a libretto by Gene Scheer, which premiered in December 2005.
Yes Theodore Dreiser's tome is based on this tragic and heartless murder. I saw an old film version of it on TV as a kid and hated the way the murder victim was presented as common and stupid - almost as if she deserved to die for getting in "the hero's " way.
Yet another excellent, narrated tale by the fabulous Oddie. Her sobs at the end made for quite the chilling conclusion. Thank you!
Happy you enjoyed the presentation Sarah - thanks for your positive feedback.
Alot of these stories are oh so intriging. I've never heard of alot of these! Alot of the time it's the same stories over, and over! Keep this up..its what makes you different, and stand out aside all the other millions of TH-camrs. So glad i found you!😊👌 YOUR VOICE IS AMAZING!💕

I vote whole heartedly for ZERO modern cases. It would completely spoil what's special about your channel, IMO.
Keep up the historical Oddie please. Not enough vintage murders out there.
I've literally watched every video you've put out...I've been an odd-ball for awhile now! I dont think anyone's "crime videos" are done quite like you do. THANK GOODNESS!

Oh sugar, i am sure there are FAR more of these stories than one would imagine. In 1991, i was 15 years old, and suffering from absent daddy syndrome, fell in love with a handsome 19 year old cad that gave my parents the worst bad vibe. I was forbidden to see him, given every warning out there, and yet, still fell prey to this handsome charming creature. Igot pregnant either the first or second time we were intimate- and knowing my parents would be beyond irate, hid it for four months until it could not be hidden any longer. My mother suspected well before this, due to terrible morning sickness, but i assured her it was food poisoning or an allergy. When i broke it to daddy, he wanted him prosecuted(well, he would have preferred the death penalty) and i was seriously shocked by his venom and anger. The cads family hid me until one month before my 16th birthday, and because my beloved maternal irish grandmother would not look or talk to me, we applied for the marriage license with my mom signing the forms. I turned 16 on 9/22/91, and with the 30 day waiting period got married 10/22/91 at the justice of the peace. Luckily, i was the oldest of 9 and was fairly well versed in infant and baby care in the technical terms, but it totally derailed my academic and college plans. My parents were devastated because i was an extremely good student, straight A's, all advanced prep classes, but was so sick from the pregnancy i had to drop out. Idid go back eventually, and my now 26 yr old son is one of the greatest joys of my life. I was warned and labeled hi risk due to my young age that i would likely have a preterm or small baby- when he was 9# and 22" long and the labor took three days there was unfortunately damage to my parts which resulted in infertility problems that continued.....the "CAD" divorced me adn abandoned our son (only paying the minimum in required support, and frequently blowing our son off for whatever new chickie he fancied. He actually left me for an a18 year old when i was a few months short of my 21st birthday- which broke my heart and i cried for 11 months straight. His family was wonderful to me and our son, and my ex fell completely out of favor with his family when he filed for divorce. Luckily, i did remarry years later and had another baby 10 years and 16 days after the birth of my son! While that marriage was not great either- all i can say is that i am glad i did not live in a time when i would have been an outcast---i got a taste when my beloved grandma told me i had shamed our family and unless i got married she could not bear the sight of me. Thank God she was good to her word, and sent me a lovely wedding gift adn called me every day after i was married to check in on me and the pregnancy! I think i will look up my sons father and send him a link to this video just for giggles, as i am well over the heartache now and just filled with pity and disgust for someone who could break every promise to not only me, but our beautiful little boy whom i adored so much he was the main focus of my life until his sister came and we both fell in love with her! This story just broke my heart, because I felt such empathy for Grace- the lovely trusting girl who only wanted love, and was not worldly or savvy enough to see that ass for what he really was. Ifeel the public jeering and such was not so shocking and bad, and if you think about it, it speaks to a more honorable and simpler time when a mans word was his bond- and to take advantage of Grace and to dispose of her like trash had to be beyond the pale to the people in those times. Bully for them to use my grandpa's favorite phrase! When she relaized for the brief moment he was planning on discarding her and their baby, that she was nothing to him, and had fallen for all of his lies, oh the pain and anguish she must have felt. I only hope her death was quick and the angels took her and the baby quickly away to heaven! Idont believe God would ever condemn anyone who sinned out of love and being naive- Sad sad story! But i was sooo happy to see a new one from you today! You are soo much cooler than hitchcock! Keep them coming, i always get motivated to clean something while i listen to your stories and enjoy you sharing your thoughts and comments after as well! God bless! XOXO from Michigan USA
Shannon Joy Sharp , thanks for sharing your story. If only teenagers could realize their parents are smarter than them and trying to protect and save them from life altering mistakes. Especially when it comes to a woman's intuition about someone. If only they would listen to their mama's. Some things never change though. Especially when it comes to the mindset of teenagers.
Angelica Clark I wouldnt trust women, especially women like you. you sound pretty self centered and borderline narcissistic. relationships are yin and yang, give and take, but you sound like a 100% taker.
the second you refer to your potential significant other as "opponent" youve lost the game, sorry, you are sad and somewhat pathetic, and far from smart.
Shannon Joy Sharp : DEEP
I was in a similar situation and I’ve known many, eldests like myself, who’ve had similar outcomes. Teenagers aren’t usually known for their intelligence and forethought (mine occasionally thinks she knows everything) however I believe if the parents reared them better from the get-go then some of these situations could be avoided. Just telling your teen, “no, don’t do that” won’t work. More parents need to do a better job discussing relationships, sex, human anatomy, birth controls, and the human nature. I’m glad everything worked out for you! My baby’s father was unworthy of us but the man I have now is amazing! Sometimes we must be patient for our blessings.
1906! Girls, the line never changes. If they start saying,"the marriage license means nothing. It's just a piece of paper." You might be dating a serial killer or rapist. Don't give up your career plans for them, and hire an honest bodyguard!!
these days more women are using that line.
Sadly the day haa come when mens'/womens' hearts are growing colder and colder.
oh its the men who are evil huh? and not women who use their mens money and expect everything to be given to them because vagina. if the bitch thinks she can get me into that trap by getting knocked up behind some dumpster, she got another thing coming her way.
paper doesnt mean anything unless they have money lol jk but love is most important
MrAnimepredator what kind of women do you date? I think it comes down to what kind of person you are. Evil has no sex nor does greed and lust.
🌿👀 Thank you, Oddity. Telling the stories yourself is lovely. The whole piece is like a work of art in my eyes. You have found your niche, I think. Cheers! 🍷*🍷

I agree we have enough contemporary stories and you're so well suited for the historical ones. I absolutely love history and you have the right voice for making it come to light. I so appreciate your videos! thank you!
Thank you for the kind feedback - very much appreciated.
I love the historical stories! You have a great thing going here, Oddie!
Peace. Love. Joy.
I can't help but but feel amused that someone who sends messages like "Peace. Love. Joy," haunts channels like these. This is not a criticism, but ur words are very antithetical, to the feelings I have after watching these stories...
Your historical features are the best! Contemporary cases are mostly known already or other TH-cam channels discuss them.
I'm all for giving older or newer stories. Stories like this are fascinating no matter when they happened. Although the story about the farmer who literally disappeared before people's eyes FREAKED! ME! OUT!
I don’t know if you are on Facebook or not, if you are go to Friends of Historic Herkimer County. Apparently Chester’s lightbulb wasn’t the brightest. About the pictures on his cell walls: “During his time in jail, Chester covered his walls with over 100 photos clipped from magazines-mostly actresses and woodland scenes.” Very good story, I enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks for that info!
I hardly ever watch TV anymore... Love these stories, so much more relaxing! Keep doing this!
Thanks for your very kind feedback Katalin - very much appreciated :)
No modern stuff!!! it will take the mystic out of it. This story was so tragic and terrifying. So intrigued by all the ones I've seen, this is my new favorite entertainment. I will donate on patreon soon.
Thanks for your very kind feedback David, much appreciated :)
Yes my friend. You are a Master of the Macabre. We are taught that it is lawful and good to pray for the deceased. The level of misery some of these people endured. (And insanity) thanks oddie. Did you ever discover what the castle was all about?
I love the old stories being a former New Yorker I have old Roots and love the old stories
I'm originally from upstate NY (Finger Lakes) and it is a region full of stories.
kim p
It Sure is😉
New York State has so many historical hauntings!!!!!
Sheba_Lifts yep. I lived in a haunted house there most of my life. Outside of the city it is a beautiful state, but NYC has been sucking the life out of the rest of the state for years. So many moving out now, like I did.
cmtmj2006 I lived about 15 minutes from the Fox Sisters home in Hydesville. The original house had been moved to Lilydale and burned. An exact replica of the home was built on the original site in Hydesville, and it also eventually burned. Now the site has a historic marker.
Ditto
I Googled the name above the woman's photo (Miss Kathrine Stryker) on the newspaper clipping and found a news article. Asbury Park Press. It states, "Bodies of Albert Test and Catherine Stryker Taken From Shrewsbury River at Keyport." I have to sign up for a free trial to get more info. Looks like it's a different case than Grace Brown. Sorry if someone else told you already, I didn't read all 1282 comments. lol
I followed your actions and Googled both names and came up with the following URL which will lead you to a photographs page: www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ACYBGNRhZZRwiux20A-BtDa_CphjlWa5XA:1570144830739&q=albert+test+and+catherine+stryker&tbm=isch&source=hp&sxsrf=ACYBGNRhZZRwiux20A-BtDa_CphjlWa5XA:1570144830739&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjI8IannYHlAhVFn-AKHbgGAZgQsAR6BAgHEAE&biw=1366&bih=625#imgdii=tDJ-ejq0ly9m0M:&imgrc=l61YdGZ4mr0yHM
If this is another case, earlier than Grace's murder, is it possible it may have given her killer the idea?
Asbury Park press is in NJ as is the Shrewsbury River and Keyport...so obviously a different story
I know I'm about 3 years too late, but I finally found Obsolete Oddity; & I'm glad I did. I love your historical crimes. Some I am very familiar with, such as this one & Evelyn Nesbit & the Dyatlov Pass. Some I am not & I love to learn about them. Personally I'd prefer any crime story pre-1960. As this is 3 years old now, I sincerely hope you are still making these stories to educate us. Please, keep up the great work.
Thank you very much for your great feedback Kyla - much appreciated :)
I know this is a much older upload (that I very much enjoyed!) but I just want to say that I really like that you cover older cases. I am very drawn to these types of stories but I like knowing that probably not a lot of close family are still alive that might be affected by their loved ones story being discussed on TH-cam. I very much understand wanting the public to help solve crimes that are modern day and unsolved, and it is also important for us to learn from such stories. After all, knowledge is power. But I am a bit of an empath and I feel very strongly for family members that have to deal with their loved ones stories being talked about on the news, etc. I realize that is just the reality of life, but I am all for making life a bit easier especially for those that have to go through such tragedies. You always handle the stories with the utmost respect and reverence and I very much appreciate that!
Thank you for the kind feedback Kat - very much appreciated. :)
Your stories have been fascinating. I thank you for all the research and work that has gone in to them. The news media today blasts us with overkill to the more recent incidents. Of course there are unsolved cases that might be fun, but my vote is for the historical. That is the main reason I have subscribed, as these cases are astounding and always hungry to try to learn more.
I'm tired of the late 20th century tv docs about crime. The older the crime the better.
i have been listening to a lot of story tellers on here, but you my friend are far the best,..not only how you construct the stories, the images how you put the videos together, pure art form,..and your voice,.... you sound like such a descent warm hearted human being,... brilliant voice, and artist,.. thank you for these stories,.. do you ever find things on time travel,.. dimensions....or parallel lives ? Regards bohodogon
Time travel, parallel lives would be wonderful, Oddie! But everything you do is mesmerizing. The stories and your narration-perfect!
Historical cases please...today’s youth has so little general knowledge of history and you bring it to life! Thank you so much!👏🏻👍🏻😊
Yes, keep the historical stories I truly enjoy them. Thank you for all your hard work so I can enjoy. Your awesome. 🤗
They have a movie of this horrible tragic story. American Movie "A place in the sun" Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift, Shelly Wenters played the girl who was murdered. Just the movie I thought was horrible! Now knowing it's based on true horrible murder.
Thelma Knowler Didn't know that. Will have to check that out.
Linda Ciccoli I'm surprised that I actually knew something for a change. Maybe it will help find more information about the case.
Thelma Knowler It's an excellent movie, with all the actors in top form. I just watched it again on TCM a several months back for the millionth time.
Movie was based on Dreiser's book "An American Tragedy" The film made the murderer look like a more sympathetic, tragic character. This puts him in a more accurate light. Thanks Oddie!
YES!! I was thinking of that exact movie as I watched this!I hope everyone gets to see it.What great performances in that movie!!
What attracted me to your channel was the older historical features. Love them. Please do more!
The story in the paper is about Katherine Stryker and I believe his name was Albert. He did not handle her rejection well. Hope this helps with another tale
Shadow Walker albert post, I believe
I BELIEVE it was Albert test but truly not sure of especially the man's surname.
Ahh okay, I saw in the paper Albert Post.
it is Albert Test
I ran across the story a few years ago in doing some genealogy research. I remembered it and her name because evidently at some point he 'struck' her and her name was Stryker. I'm strange. Lol
this has become my newest obsession. so love these stories. Keep doing what you're doing and stick to the old stories. as someone else said we have enough people talking about the current ones.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Nicole - much appreciated :)
These are just so incredibly well made?! I usually listen to these murder cases while falling asleep (psycho alert) but i get too excited to watch the pictures inbetween i keep myself up?!?
So good!
Thanks for your kind feedback Samira - much appreciated :)All the best for 2020!
I think what sets your channel apart from the rest is how old and unknown those cases are.
Loads of people are covering more well known cases, but you're the only one I know who does old cases.
Also I find your style of video making works better with older cases, the whole aesthetic is very coherent.
Ironically enough, it became a very famous case when the writer Theodore Dreiser wrote the novel AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY in 1925. It was adapted into a movie version in 1931 and as A PLACE IN THE SUN in 1952. Groucho Marx even cracks a grim joke about refusing to go out in a rowboat because of it in HORSE FEATHERS.
I wouldn't mind some of the less documented more recent day crimes sprinkled in with your historic ones. You have such a unique & captivating style in your videos, different from any others I have seen here on youtube.
It is obvious you put in alot of time, effort & research in to making them ....hence so many subscribers! I am confident you will be as entertaining documenting more recent crimes/strange features :o)
I would agree with you, Remmie, only if he continues to cover the more obscure cases--of which we know there are many, as history continues to prove. I would think they would be more difficult to discover and research than the older ones, because no matter how famous or obscure an incident, publicity is (hopefully) limited or even squelched until after the trial, and often until after the appeals process has been exhausted. It would, however, be thrilling to view more modern cases in this particular style.
So sad, but I loved the pictures, and of course hearing you read the story makes it extra special!❤️
I recently discovered this channel (now one of my 2 subscriptions!). I enjoy many TV series and documentaries, however this really is something different - "a breath of fresh air" I guess you could put it. What an amazing job you have done putting all these videos together! I've got a couple of my friends to subscribe and I'll keep telling other people all about this fantastic channel too! Thanks so much.
Many thanks for your very kind feedback and sharing/recommending my channel Becky - Much appreciated :)
Excellent quality! Loved the crying Grace at the end. Plus, so enjoy your reflections. Very much enjoy you and your stories!
Thanks for your very kind feedback Diane, I appreciate it :)
I've gotten hooked on your videos lately. They are awesome!
Awesome I like most of your subscribers see notification drop what I am doing to gaze upon another intriguing mystery you so amazingly put together. Now I watch. Thank you for doing what you do. Love what your doing with some of your collectables. Shows what you about.
He's the best, I recommend his channel often to friends or acquaintances who like the creepy side of TH-cam too.
His uploads are always unique in that they tackle older cases, impeccable research, and his voice is a delight. =)
I prefer the older stories, BUT your ghost story from childhood was riveting. If you don't have anymore personal accounts I would love for you to share some from those you know/trust to be true. Hope to see the channel continue to grow, keep up the good work Oddie!
Thank you!
Seriously Oddie! Your personal story had me on the edge of my seat! If not, I vote for older stories. I’m from south Louisiana, we have plenty of good material.
Oddie videos are the only ones I cast to my TV lol, the time put in along with the uniqueness of content/editing my phone doesn't do it justice. Great work Oddie ❤️!
That's very kind of you Shonda - very much appreciated.
I think you can be as creative as you like and do not have to box yourself in to one era alone. I do love your historical narrations as I've always been fascinated with days gone by but I would listen to any of your stories as you have a gift for not only narrating but also the artistic way you present your stories. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
Thanks for your very kind feedback Eva Marie - much appreciated :)
Since I've discovered this channel three days ago, I've been listening to your videos because oddly I find your voice quite soothing. I know it's weird but listening to your voice calms my nerve it easily puts me to sleep
Thanks for taking the time to comment and leave such a nice feedback - much appreciated my friend :)
I so relate to your comment Cecilia, I have a chronic pain issue, back in the 90's , I would listen to anything with Bill Curtis narrating to help me relax, get a grip after a surgery or treatment , I find Oddie has the same effect, except with Oddie and the awesome graphics, I don't want to fall asleep I have to listen to the end 😁lol but Oddie relaxes me helps me take my mind of the pain, which I am so grateful for and now I fall asleep thinking about the wonderful, informative story I heard❣
Oddie, it doesn't matter to me what stories you share historical and/or modern just continue doing what you're doing my friend.😉
So greatful for these videos ! Keeps me away from the dreadful politics in my Country! !
Good find on this historic story. Thank you for finding it. Enjoyed greatly. I love history stories like this.
How I look forward to listening and watching the slides of these voices from our past. These documentaries are brought to life in a soothing way by the voice of the silver-throated narrator. I used to prepare food in my kitchen, wishing I had something a bit more interesting than Rossini or Mozart (they're lovely, but after a few years, one tends to have the same responses as ever one had to them; nothing new seems to take the mind's eye...). Now, I look for more complex recipes, hoping they will take a bit more time to prepare, whilst my mind follows the trail of these delicious old tales. Thank you, again, for providing these tasty tales. And again, Bravo!
Thanks for your really great feedback, a truly wonderful compliment - much appreciated :)
Thank you for your diligent research Oddie, I appreciate your telling of the past. So fascinating,
