I loved all of the "additions" to the photos.....the kitty on the sidewalk, the butterfly's and the flashing light bulb, the fire in the fireplace. All very clever
My boyfriend committed suicide 4 years ago this December, and he was also very happy the day before he killed himself. He even got a haircut and bought himself new shoes. From all the support groups I've been to, the people I've talked to that went through similar things, and my own experience, I've discovered that a lot of people seem happy right before they kill themselves. The most common theory for this, I've found, is relief. They have made a plan to end the horrible pain they're in, and know there is finally an end to their torment in their near future. I am sorry you have lost someone to suicide too. Thank you for sharing your story, I wish you the best. I am a brand new sub, I just discovered your videos and I absolutely adore your work. Thank you for creating these amazing videos
I just come across your channel today. I like the way you tell and talk about how different stories you do I also subscribed to your channel today and I look forward to watching more of your videos Thank you and keep up the good work you're doing. Hope you have a Blessed and Wonderful Day, Evening and Night. God Bless you and all others
Sad. But they really are not escaping any torment if they only knew they would have thought twice. It is so hard to think that these people believe that they are beyond any help. I know my own sister was there. Please anyone who is thinking about ending it all, DON´t. You are too valuable and precious.
Thank you again for your wonderful work! I remember reading about this woman years ago. Considering at the time if suicide was on her mind she could have easily taken the ferry to NJ or a train almost anywhere before perhaps doing the deed. The fact that she had done so much else that day w/o buying an evening gown-- her intended reason for going out--- makes you wonder. But I have a hard time believing an aspiring writer would not leave a note-- or better still mail a letter home explaining her intentions. With a beau in Italy, regardless of the family's attitude toward the association, she would have had some reason to hang on. Leaning toward foul play, myself. She took a wrong turn, listened to the wrong person, got in the wrong cab or perhaps been injured somehow and instead of those responsible taking her to a hospital (especially if she died en route) they took her money, expensive jewelry, etc and simply ditched the body, burnt or buried her. Sorry-- off on too many tangents here!
They say when some people who are very depressed for a long time, and all of a sudden they seem to be happy, that's a danger sign they have resolved to end their life. Of course their loved ones can't always be aware of this and should never feel guilty. So sorry to hear of your loss, by the way, it sounds like you still miss him and loved him dearly.
Thank you Erica - my cousin was such a kind & sensitive soul, always ready to help and I never saw him angry...perhaps too sensitive for this world. He was a gifted mechanic and would travel for miles on a winter night to help a stranded relative. He was very close to my grandfather, who was also very talented with mechanics - my grandfather was lying on his death bed at this time...my cousin couldn't come to terms with this and another relationship crisis that was happening simultaneously. It's often the kind souls who depart this world too soon. Yes you're right, the danger signs are when long depressed persons suddenly appear calm & resolved.
ObsoleteOddity Family meant a lot to your cousin Yours and his Grandfather dying and family crisises He seemed to be like u I have never seen u But your inflections in your voice reflect kindness Your careful reading of the research of the case makes us all with hope want this hideously cold case solved but knowing only Gods judgement is on it Now U know I'm sorry your cousin did not know how much he was loved in this world to stay
Thank you Belinda, very kind words. I nearly joined my cousin in later years...I touched upon this in my Evelyn McHale video, which I will be remaking soon with narration and elaborating on my experience of depression. He is not the only cousin to commit suicide in my family...but I was closest to him, because, yes - in many ways we were very much alike. My heart goes out to young people who take their lives on the spur of the moment...this makes me very sad. Bless you.
ObsoleteOddity It is very hard living with depression, but your kindness and wonderful support you have for everyone makes it bearable. Your videos keep me going. Thank you. Niffy
What kind of parents waits SIX weeks to find help locating their daughter? What kind of parents hire a private investigator instead of calling the police? Sounds very suspicious to me.
She had taken off and stayed with a man previously and they didn't want to embarrass themselves if this was happening again. If I recall, this behavior was stated in the beginning of story. So keeping police out of it and even hiring private investigator makes perfect sense.
A moving story, and a beautifully made video. I really appreciate the sensitivity and empathy with which you handle the subjects of these cases; they never come across as exploitative or voyeuristic. I am truly sorry for the loss of your cousin. He will always live on through his loved ones.
Agreed. I think that's one of the things that makes your channel so incredibly special. You never treat a story as just an 'oddity', you always treat the story and the victims with respect, insight and empathy and a genuine interest to know their truth and find as much out as you can not just about the circumstances but about everyone involved. (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you ended up solving one someday.) I am so glad I found your channel among the sensation-seeking, shark-filled sea of others out there. Keep at it OO!
NotMostGirls I agree 100 % . The first comment I made on one of Oddies videos was exactly that . He treats the characters in his stories with so much respect and doesn't force some preconceived ideas down our throats. What I also love about this channel is the community that has been created here. I have never once seen anyone being berated or belittled for their views and I've never seen this on any other channel.
I enjoyed this show about socialite Dorothy Arnold, it's very fascinating to me. I've always enjoyed criminal mysteries particularly cases like this. One of the reasons why Dorothy's parents didn't call the police is probably because wealthy people in those days wouldn't want the publicity. Hiring a private investigator is for discretion and still being able to find out about someone's disappearance. That was a very interesting message about her mother in the letter to her male companion. She could have simply chose to disappear to perhaps start a new life, who knows.
I like how in your black and white pictures youhave something moving.A bird , a cat , a light.but a bit frightening when u broke the windows. And funny too.at the end.
Oddie my 23 year old beautiful son attempted suicide this year, in April slicing his arm open so wide the doctors thought he would lose it. He spent several days in icu and was also Baker Acted. As a mother the pain is still here. His father doesn't care...yes we are divorced but he needed his father so much through his teen years and well he just didnt care. I normally would not announce this information but your story compelled me to do so. I am not asking for sympathy I just wanted to share my feelings.
Sorry to hear that Lynn - I'm so relieved he survived, it was meant to be that he lived. I sincerely hope this will bring a change in his life for the positive. I have once been where your son is now, and I'm so glad that I am still here and able to experience all that I have in this life. I hope you son feels the same one day. Bless you.
lynn Not unusual, many fathers are garbage and secretly hate their families, especially their kids. No uncommon at all. I know from personal experience.
lynn Sending you love , hugs and support.. complete stranger here , but sending you and your lovely son , much love . Been through bad times too...No doubt that you have told your Wonderful child , that he is a unique individual , and totally needs to be on this Planet !! Much love to you and your lovely son . Xxxxxxxx
I really like the way way you insert little tidbits into your videos. Such as a making a lamp glow or that pigeon in front of the candy store. Keep up the good work. ..
“Mother will believe it’s accidental”, sounds like she was talking about her writing and that if she ever succeeded in it, her mother and family would think it a fluke and still mock her.
I worked 11 years at a Hospital for the Criminal Insane from 2000 to 2011. My youngest daughter at 23 amd her Fiance killed them selves in 2013. She was happy and after a suicide attempt In December. We believed she was better. The ill get happy and give their property away as I am going to leave for something better. Their struggle is over. I think the clue goes back to the stories she wrote and that she was in a bubble. She went to start a another secretive life. She couldn't write about life without living it. So I believe she changed clothes, either bought or traded to look like a simple woman. Curious did anybody check with some Editors to see if stories were submitted, that may have been similar to her writing style? She could've changed clothes got on a train and headed out west. Love hearing your voice. Thank you for sharing your own tragedy. So sorry for your loss.
I agree. Since her passion was writing and she was having no success, she reinvented herself in poverty in the hopes her writing would improve and be successful.
But then, she should have brought all of her money (it doesn't sound like she did), and her clothes (to trade) - she apparently took nothing, she would have taken basic grooming things (as she couldn't afford to waste money), and she wouldn't have wasted money buying that dress for her sister's debutante ball that she never attended.
Impress UrbanDivinity Me too! "Found" him about a year ago and I was instantly hooked! Just got my hubby on the Oddiewagon as we listened to a new one on a trip home last weekend and he kept wanting to hear more! LOL
Oddie where did you find that picture of the young boy selling the newspaper on the street? I was shocked to see that image again. My step father has a copy. It's his father.
ObsoleteOddity Well some back story for you. The family settled in Wilmington, DE. That's not far from Philadelphia. They came from Sicily, Italy near the boot. Young James was forced to work to help support the family.
I have learned threw the years and threw experience that people are most happy right before suicide because they are going to end the suffering. So if you know someone who has been suffering and all of a sudden seems to be extremely happy like nothing was wrong please be extra careful and mindful of this person. Sorry for your lose obsolete, my cousin and sister also committed suicide, my sister by proxy my cousin was so cheerful the day of and even made dinner for his mother told her to go out when she was invited she was reluctant but he assured her all was well . She came home and was looking for him his car was not there she assumed he went out (turns out he lent his car to a friend for work) hours later she found him in the yard with a shotgun under his chin . I felt the need to share this story so people can be aware things are not always as they seem . Depression is real and 90 percent of the time a person who says they will won’t and those who don’t say a word do .
I have such empathy for you. I've had multiple experiences, like you...I am stunned by the numbers. I tell a lot more people, and often, how much I love them and express much more gratitude for their presence within my life. I don't wish for anyone, to turn from me, believing I do not love them unconditionally. I do not have to be their judge. We all move to the outside of the physical realm. I think part of this process as human beings, is to learn how to make that move with gratitude and grace before it happens. I do have an idea we should all examine...is anyone really resigned to suicide before that moment? They may experience a few moments or days or weeks of peace, before they execute their plans...so why remain at all, but for any other reason than to search for the faith to survive through the love of others through acceptance? It's not just suicidal people who are learning how to die. How has anyone truly accepted his or her own fate, if that person, is assuming total control of his own? Will the powers within the hierarchy, meaning the heirs of the arch, recognize their own and love and cherish them in the way of the creator? I believe they will. I ask them for mercy for my own lack of knowledge and the faith within the struggle of life, that we may rebuild over time. I ask within the way of a woman, recognizing strength within meekness and meekness with strength, because no one owns what he or she will not own up to and loves at the same time. I want for everyone to recognize, accept and receive the gift of life. ((Hugs)) I am so sorry you have experienced so many of these events.
Such a sad story, yet so beautifully told. I love how you make the photos and sketches come to life, such as the cat on the sidewalk, the fire in the fireplace, etc... It truly is masterful story telling. My deepest sympathies on the loss of your cousin. I have walked in your shoes of loss a few times yet in this life. May you always be blessed in light and love.
Maybe she asked for the money to buy a dress in order to afford a train ticket to somewhere. She felt rejection from her family and they didn’t support her dream. The boyfriend seems like at that time content living at home with no plans of true commitment. She may have started a new life under a new name. Perhaps became a famous writer under an alias name. Like to think it ended that way:)
No sorry your supposition dont make sense at all. This woman was used to living the high life, if she just wanted to runaway she would have taken ample clothing and money, no of these were missing.
So sad that this young woman had so little confidence in herself that she gave up after two rejections - there are MANY famous authors who received PILES of rejections before success came. I feel there was something more to do with her parents: MOCKING HER, REFUSING to allow her to live in the Village......WAITING SIX WEEKS to report her missing!!!! Something stinks about her parents. As for her body not being found, there are innumerable places in the NY/NJ area - seep woods, the waters - how far would a body in the waters travels in SIX WEEKS???? Her parents reek..........who waits SIX WEEKS to report a "beloved daughter" missing??? BAD ONES. Just my intuition............poor woman - all the riches of gold, none of the riches of heart, soul, willpower. Soooooooo sad. Thanks, Oddie Beau. Love your beautiful voice, interesting mysteries! brilliant
Dr. Elizabeth Martin: What a well-written post. I, too thought of suicide by drowning to explain lack of a corpse. Manhattan IS an island 😁. Just my thank-you for your contribution. Cheers, C.
1st, I thought suicide, and people who make the decision can seem up and happy. But I really think her crazy father had something to do with it. Suspicious and shady.
Came here to say the same. It's an interesting case to look up. The parents were so affluent I guess they didn't want it reported right away. They tried to solve it with private investigators. Once it did break, it was a story that gripped headlines for a long time. Apparently people were also "spotting" her around the country. And then her cryptic message about her mother thinking it will be an accident. I hope she didn't kill herself over the rejections. But we don't know what her family life was like.Makes me wonder if she had a "I'll show them!" moment in a fit. And then there's also a theory that she ran away.
I agree... her parents behavior seems kind of sketchy. They don't report her missing for 6 weeks and then they call their attorney instead of calling the police. Perhaps the parents were sick and tired of the daughters scandalous behavior reflecting poorly on the family name and decided to get rid of her. Maybe someone did seal her up in the cellar... Lol... I really enjoy these stories.
In those times if their son or daughter wanted to marry someone they did not approve of, drastic measures could take place. parents could have killed her themselves , in the heat of a nasty argument.
"Oddie's Bon Bons"! That was delightful! I love looking for your little "additions" to historic photographs. It's like looking for Alfred Hitchcock's cameos in his films. Thanks for the giggle. ^_^ 7:45 On a more respectful note, however, thank you for always treating the subjects/victims of your videos with sensitivity. As a person with a family member who was murdered in 1922, I can assure you that the passage of time does not discount a life cut short. Telling their stories is not mere entertainment - it is keeping their memory alive. They shouldn't be forgotten.
I'm so very sorry about your cousin. You mentioned that the evening before he committed suicide, he was in a good mood. I have read that people who have committed suicide are usually in a more pleasant mood right before because they have figured out a way to not be in pain anymore. Also, they will give precious things away before they take their lives. This is the 2nd time that I have listened to this story about Dorothy. I think that it's a very sad story. I keep thinking about her poor family. Never knowing what happened to Dorothy. I'm a mother and can never imagine the "not knowing". Personally, I think that the papers that were burned in her bedroom may be a clue to her disappearance. Thank you, Oddie for all of your wonderful hard work. I really appreciate all of these great stories. ☺️
I feel that way too. I often have weird dreams of living in that period. Now, I am a black female but when I see myself in my dreams, I am a white lady with caramel colored hair. My hair is half up half down and I have on a gorgeous hat. I have on a Southern Bell gown and I am holding an umbrella. Funny thing is I've had this dream many times. The last time me and my husband were at a hotel and he was playing poker. I was bored and ready to go. Just like I get bored easily now watching my bf play poker. I also dreamed that my husband sent me on a boat with his friend. He was going to meet me later., I got on the boat and I never saw my husband again.
I like to think she ran away using money she could have taken from the bank on small quantities on several ocassions and then went to try and become an author with a new identity.
Except her father was a putz by the sound of things, and kept her tied to home, still think he is shady. And, in that time period, single daughters were basically chattel.
I think that's a good theory. The fact her parents waited six weeks to report her missing more than hints of a bad relationship she would want to escape. They might have suspected that she ran away, but made a show of looking for her to avoid embarrassment.
I love that you always seem to have so much of a connection with every events you post, your opinions near the end really are the icing on the cake. This is the first time I’ve ever replied to a TH-cam video and I’m doing it to show appreciation for the little slice of you that you provide near the end of every video! Thank you!
I absolutely love these stories on ObsoleteOddity. and Mr. Oddie doesn't resort to a lot of bad language. Some other TH-camrs feel like they have to use the F-word to make a point. Thank you, Mr. Oddie for allowing us to enjoy the stories without all of thqat.
kidnappers don't always send ransom demands--there are thousands of cases by serial killers that attest to that---i am so very sorry for your loss Oddy--one of my sisters passed away a month before my mother and i will believe in my heart to my dying day that my sister killed herself---i despise when callous people say that people that commit suicide are cowards--the only cowardly people that kill themselves are people that want to evade being brought to justice or be held legally accountable for their crimes
I totally agree - most people who commit suicide are not cowards, but very sensitive souls who cannot cope with life's pressures, or have some unbearable illness or pain.
I remember reading about this story but I love the way you tell these stories much better. I have 2 daughters and a son and I can't imagine how heart broken her poor mother was when she died. Thank you for sharing something so personal with us. It is so hard on the people left behind to live with the guilt and pain of losing someone they love to suicide. I hope anyone who feels suicidal, that yes, things can get really rough, but then they can be so good a d that is the very fabric of life and what makes the good times so much more meaningful and better, knowing how hard they can be too. Each and every life is precious. I hope they know things DO get better eventually and it's not worth it because you leave others hurting and in pain from losing you and you never get a chance to turn the corner to see the better day coming. The sun comes back up and you get a new day, a fresh start, to each one. And there are so many others in much worse conditions in life that find it's value for you to forsake life is very selfish when you consider how much worse off you could really be. Things always get better. If you are in trouble. There was a way into it, which means there is always at least one way out. Learn to love yourself and the little things.
Hi, their focus is all kinds of stories from Old New York, not like Oddie's style, though there are some mysteries. But they're very informative and fun. they've been around about 10 years and now, they have a book out and they have a separate podcast for inventors. It's terrific. - boweryboyshistory.com
Love you Oddie.. Love the special touches you put in to all your videos. The light flickering overhead..the knock on the door..fireplace flame..butterflies etc. Oh and the Oddie Choc sign..Perfection as usual.
I just found this channel on TH-cam, and I must inform you that you have caused me a BIG problem!!! I am totally addicted! :D I've been binge watching for 2 days now and just can't get enough! You have an amazing voice and way of presentation, and I love the way you make still pictures make little moves! Not least, is how interesting the cases are that you present. Real people, real lives and real stories. Keep up your amazing work sir, it is greatly appreciated by me! Little old lady in Alabama USA
Oh dear Oddie, I'm so sorry about your cousin. My husband's cousin did the same thing. No one knew why. I've always thought suicide is one of the most awful ways to die, because of the pain is causes family and friends. Its like taking one's own struggles and depression and putting them on the one's we love most. So sad. I'm a huge fan of yours, but more than that, I want to thank you for sharing your heart in your videos. God bless you and yours our friend.
My first cousin also planned his automobile "accident". A few days before, he started calling all the relatives one by one, even those he had no contact with in decades. His conversations were centered around everyone getting together for a wonderful family reunion. I just didn't understand why the phone calls...And he was so kind, financially set and had the looks of a movie star. Some time later, my sister wanted her and I to visit his home state and any family member willing to discuss the "incident" with us. His eldest son decided he wanted to tell his dad's story. I went away from that meeting in tears, but at least we now understood, which is a lot more than some people ever get, such as in this tragedy....
Every time I get the notice you have a new video I feel excitement ..like Christmas morning when I was a child! Thank you so much for the quality stories you share! I find myself thinking about them throughout the day..wondering what happened.
Fascinating. A real mystery. Something for us to think about whilst we are waiting to go to sleep. Thanks for another super story. Very sorry to hear about your cousin. Lest we forget.
Very sorry about your cousin passing from suicide. My nephew was 12 when he did it. Survivors; It’s a club you never want to be in. Love all your work.....Helping my own depression during this jobless pandemic.... thank you!!!
Thank you so much for sharing that family history about your cousin I to this year have lost a son to Suicide he was only 21 and I'm dealing with the agony of that tragedy M.Richards
Very shocking and mysterious enjoyed listening to this one..keep them coming..btw my condolences about your cousin sorry to hear that happen..keep doing a great job and I’ll keep watching..smiles from America..
I am so very sorry about your cousin. I love all the old pictures. I have bunch of post cards from 1800's & 1900's. I think that is why I was drawn to your channel. I am loving all of your videos. Thank You so much for your wonderful story telling. Have a great day!
Another great story. I say that so often about your work, that I'm beginning to sound like a broken record! Intriguing story with so many possible avenues to investigate. That breaking glass panel had me almost hit the roof! I know Oddie, it's a way to ensure that we all stay awake! It worked! Only kidding, we all anxiously await your next video. It really is something to look forward to and makes you forget about your ordinary day and your problems for a short while. I was always interested in criminology, so these subjects are right up my alley. Thanks again, great stuff!!! 😊
Depression is an awful burden. Ppl often mention "they seemed happy that day". As Oddie mentioned I do believe it's resolve. They have made That decision to end their suffering. Also true a person suffering from depression, especially for a lengthy time, can become very good at putting on an act...making those around them think they're happy. Just as Oddie said one certainly can't rule out suicide in this case because she seemed happy that morning. But I must agree it's so very strange they never found a body.
I love the photos from yesteryear that you have chosen to tell this very sad story. As always you have done a wonderful job. I am sorry about the loss of your cousin. I believe you are correct that the plan was in place and the decision made by the time he spent that last day with the family. The resolution to his problems was at hand. Please remember the happy times with him.
14:10 ODDIE GOO BALLS!! That totally cracked me up. Good job on the humor 🤹Very good story! Loved the videos and pictures. The kitty cat was such a sweet appearance 4:16
Oddie I can listen to your voice 24/7❣ 💖 You always pick me up out of the blues no matter what the story is about. Thank You for all the hard research and awesome presentations you do. 💖 💀 🙉🙊🙈 😎 😘
Imagine naive Dorothy, sending manuscript after manuscript, and one falls into the wrong hands. She receives correspondence from a kindly man, offering to tutor her or meet her to talk about her latest story. She must destroy all of the correspondence, however, as his aid must be a secret from everyone-even her family, lest news leaks about him taking a protege. He tells her to buy a certain obscure book sold at a certain bookseller so that he may see her carrying it to pick her out of the crowd at the cafe where they will be meeting. But he is already waiting and watching at the booksellers, and when he sees her buy the book, he follows her out... What was the book she bought?
Dude u may have hit it With that fabrication Because her did say would she like some company she told her mother no Because her mother was sickly and she had already prepared a sister for her debut Which is our debutant ball today K:D
Angel Miller How would this man hear about her? The family wanted to keep it under wraps and its not like she was posting manuscript after manuscript. She made two. Still, good theory.
Oddie I'm so sorry about your cousin. That must have been very difficult for your family. I also read in another comment that you yourself at one time were in a dark place in your life and I just want to say I'm so glad that you got through it and found your way back to the light. Im 35 and have been struggling with severe depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety for over 20 years and I have definitely visited the idea of suicide many times, especially as a bullied teenager. But thankfully I have an amazing supportive husband of 6 years and 2 beautiful children who have given me purpose in life and truely saved me. I still have my dark moments sometimes but my family is what keeps me going. Thank you for sharing this and keep these awesome videos coming! ❤☺
Wow!!!! Another great presentation from you Oddie. Love the story so many things could've happened to her. So many scenarios to think about. As usual Oddie my friend I loved all the little personal touches you added to bring the pictures an the story to life. Absolutely amazing. Your channel is definitely my fav. Your work is so beautiful. I thank you and appreciate all your hard work and effort to bring these video's to us. Your talent is beyond measure and it shows more with every new video. Thanks again Oddie my friend. Take care. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones. Till next time ☺❤❌⭕ P. S. May your cousin rest in peace. My condolences to you and your family 👼🙏
Thank you for describing what happened in your family. The same thing happened in my father's family. A relative who had been in a horrible situation seemed very cheerful right before he killed himself. His young daughter was in a vegetative state after she was in a car accident. She would never get better.
I love your channel. It's not all major cases everyone else just copies from TV shows. You have a hypnotic voice I can listen to for hours. I've bing watched all your videos today. Can't wait for more.
I agree, except that she bought a dress for an upcoming event and she, a writer, never left a suicide note. I'd love to know if that dress was in her closet? If not, she could have bought it FOR her suicide (saying it was for her sister's debutante ball). It sounded like if she did kill herself, she was planning on making it look accidental, not just to disappear. It's so bizarre that the family didn't contact the police for over a month (6 weeks). Clearly, they cared more about their reputation than their daughter.
I love these stories. I love this guys voice. I wish he would do more of these. I think ive watched them all so far. I really look forward to my notifications of new stories. Please do more of these...my favorite channel on you tube!!!
Karen Carter this is by far one of my favorite comments because i am also loving his voice it is one of the reason i am following him.i am totally hook in his voice.i've mention this before that i sometimes fall asleep with his voice it is like he is singing lullaby to me so whenever i have time he 's on my top list to listen to.
Oh my ...what a very sad story this is i feel so much for dorothy's parents going through all those years of not knowing what become of her 💔 i think she took her own life for a few reasons #RIPDOROTHY ❤ I am also equally sad to hear of your cousins suicide how dreadful for you all & for him to feel so depressed & unhappy that he took his life, i have come close to taking my own a few times due to very heartbreaking times in my life but i keep fighting everyday & can empathise totally with how he must have felt..ty for sharing such a personal story ❤ xxx
My aunt graduated from Wellesley and lived in Greenwich village when she graduated in 1913 ... my aunt was amazing and fantastic woman ...I loved this story
Hmmmm I think it was something much more sinister that maybe we can't really comprehend being that we are not apart of the "upper classes" I believe that her father, brother, and the lawyer knows exactly what happened to her. I do think it ended in murder but not in any reasonable or plausible thinking we could have as to the events that led to it.
Impress Divinity , wow that was my same thought, probably they kill her by accident, maybe not , but I THATS what I really fell , the family knows what did happened with her .!
Thank you for sharing such a tragic and open story. May it help others to know this is not sometime to be ashamed of in a family but a chance to reach out and help others. Get help and know someone does care . Blessing and hope you have many good memories of him.
Bonsoir Obsolete Oddity ! I'm a french pal, from Montréal (Québec, Canada) and tonight, I feel really lucky because I just discovered your existence today (andby the way, the existence of your -already huge- storytelling video-library)!!!- So, I don't have to wait impatiently for the next one!!! OooohhhHHH, MAN!!! I mean, THANK YOU!!!! It's SO perfect because obviously, I CAN'T wait to hear the rest of your so strange and so artful collection of storytelling. I want to bless the given day that saw you feeling so compelled to share your fascination for those cases and those stories, that you found this admirable way to trigger and drive our curiosity -and then, provocate the birth of this appetite (this délicacy, in my case, lol) for your so original videos. Beautifully written in a so particular and lively style, where the presence of a perfect dosage of EQ is noticible at the very beginning- your textes are also masterfully interpreted by yourself !!! The vidéo support is the fatal blow- (pretty clever, the way you are introducing people to us!). I'm amazed by the little amount of time it's took to hook me, a french pal, to became addict to your art. Hahahahaha! I became your Groupie #One !!! Seriously, you are a chief. You deserve totally all of your 3,5 K fans. (!!! INCREDIBLE !!!!) Please accept all of my respects and felicitations. You can be proud of yourself. At the era of the god-television-internet, you manage to push us to revive the 40's-50's, when people where waiting to the next week to hear the next episode of their favorite radio-show. Alone! You're one of my heroes. When I was little, I was listening repeatedly to "Ma Tante Lucille" and also, "Fanfreluche" 's stories. Sometimes, these stories were very strange and I was deliciously frightened... Tonight, I'm rediscovering this émotion because of you. I wish you, at least, the same miracle and you know, I wish you to float in the celebration of this beautiful life, shared with beloved people who love you as well, because man, it can reduce the pain of your loss when you are chillin' with the ones who are there. Big big Bear Hugs xx
Oh Oddie Beau I’m so sorry you lost your cousin. 😢 my childhood friend acted the same way the day before he took his own life. My mom said that he had finally decided to do it and that causes a certain amount of relief. I was there when they found him, I will never forget his mothers screams. Such a sad thing 😢 I hope never to hear anything like that ever again. I had never seen or read this story before, thank you for such an unknown story. I choose to believe she started another life and chose to write under a pen name like the Brönte sisters at first did.
Shawna Bouillet But the Bronte's could actually write I don't know if she could r not Even though she fancied she could But she is educated and not married and 25 years old Not allowed to live in Greenwich village but her father felt she would not use it for a writing experiment but for a sexual one so she may have been caught b 4 in a compromised position Just sayin
NTV Online That is so kind of you. Thank you. It was long ago. His parents always fancied we would end up together, two odd children who grew up riding tricycles together and slurping on orange push-pops to young teenagers who both suffered being bullied in a provincial Appalachian village. It’s was very odd indeed that two such oddball’s would end up living in sight of each other (Oddie would know about that I suspect.)Who knows our parents might have been right and we might have ended up together but sadly Nathan, being a boy, got the worst end of the bullying. I prefer to think she procured a governess position and wrote gothic novels under a nom de plume. Besides, why would she buy a book if she planned to end her life? Just a thought.
That was told as if I was right there! I kept saying, “You are not supposed to go up there!”. But, I knew he was going to go anyway. Thanks for sharing this event. You told it very well.
I like to think she ran away, changed her name and became an author like she always dreamed of. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss 😥💙
Thanks for your very kind feedback my friend - much appreciated! 🎩
phantomkara perhaps the happiness was simply her resolve to follow through on her thoughts.
I just come across your channel today. I like the way you tell and talk about how different stories you do
I also subscribed to your channel today and I look forward to watching more of your videos
Thank you and keep up the good work you're doing.
I can listen to his voice all day long. I really enjoy his channel.
I agree. I’m hooked on this channel
FOLLOW THE SPIDER don’t be an asshole
Serena, I can too! He has the perfect voice for this medium!! ❤😊😊🤗🤗🤗😎😎😎
His voice has this calming and yet hypnotic effect. Love it! Wish my teachers in school has this voice! lol
ObsoleteOddity
Family meant a lot to your cousin
Yours and his Grandfather dying and family crisises
He seemed to be like u
I have never seen u
But your inflections in your voice reflect kindness
Your careful reading of the research of the case makes us all with hope want this hideously cold case solved but knowing only Gods judgement is on it
Now
U know I'm sorry your cousin did not know how much he was loved in this world to stay
Thank you. Niffy
Thank you Niffy. Very kind of you.
What kind of parents waits SIX weeks to find help locating their daughter? What kind of parents hire a private investigator instead of calling the police? Sounds very suspicious to me.
Rich people are afraid of scandal. Maybe at first they thought she was out doing something that would have caused them embarrassment.
That is a very good point you made, six weeks seems like an awful long time to wait before doing anything.
She had taken off and stayed with a man previously and they didn't want to embarrass themselves if this was happening again. If I recall, this behavior was stated in the beginning of story. So keeping police out of it and even hiring private investigator makes perfect sense.
Didnt he say they hired a lawyer? Not a P.I.
@ @@joleneloveland2942
Lawyers used to do (some might
still do) that kind of thing. Lawyers
have contacts in police departments
A moving story, and a beautifully made video. I really appreciate the sensitivity and empathy with which you handle the subjects of these cases; they never come across as exploitative or voyeuristic.
I am truly sorry for the loss of your cousin. He will always live on through his loved ones.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, my friend, for such a great channel.
31webseries couldn't of said it better .
I am sorry to hear of your loss. Your cousin sounds like a wonderful person. Thanks for all you do and as always, blessings.
Thank you so much.
Xxxxxxxx
99fruitbat Thank you.
ObsoleteOddity Thank you Oddie. He is doing so much better. He wants to live and that is what is so important.
I really like the way way you insert little tidbits into your videos. Such as a making a lamp glow or that pigeon in front of the candy store. Keep up the good work. ..
stillbee Did you see the cat at 4:15?
YourAverageGoyl Yes I did!!! Fantastic. ..
YourAverageGoyl I squeed when I saw the cat!
Theresa Fisher hahahaha.
Thank you my friends - glad you like the added 'extras' :)
“Mother will believe it’s accidental”, sounds like she was talking about her writing and that if she ever succeeded in it, her mother and family would think it a fluke and still mock her.
Agreed
I still am so obsessed with these!!! 💓
Impress UrbanDivinity ...... Girl me too!!! 😃😄
Impress UrbanDivinity Me too! "Found" him about a year ago and I was instantly hooked! Just got my hubby on the Oddiewagon as we listened to a new one on a trip home last weekend and he kept wanting to hear more! LOL
Thank you my friends!
ObsoleteOddity ...... No, thank you! I loooove the stories you do ❤😄.
me too! what's wrong with us?
I am addicted to your lovely lovely voice...ahhh❤❤❤
Yes it's so gentle & soothing to listen to his stories .. I love listening great channel 🌹
Oddie where did you find that picture of the young boy selling the newspaper on the street? I was shocked to see that image again. My step father has a copy. It's his father.
Dana Macy
If Obsolete does not respond
U need to contact him again!!!!!!!!
That is a bombshell of historic caliber
U just shared with the masses!!!!!
Wow the world is a village 😱
Just confirmed it with dad too. He was about 8 here, born in 1902. James Vincent Logullo.
Amazing Dana! Must have been a delightful shock for you to see it here!
I have an old framed photo of it in my dusty vault here in Switzerland.
My father, first husband and nephew all committed suicide. It’s very hard to live through.
Thanks for your very kind feedback and support Mary - much appreciated! :)
I like your version of the story.
Me too
No sorry your supposition dont make sense at all. This woman was used to living the high life, if she just wanted to runaway she would have taken ample clothing and money, no of these were missing.
@zadose If course she's dead. Of old age at least.
Dr. Elizabeth Martin. The mocking and waiting 6 weeks bothers me, too! And Stephen King said he got around 20 rejections before he was accepted.
Great mystery. I've always found it odd that her parents waited so long to report her missing. Also, very sorry for the tragic loss of your cousin.
In those times if their son or daughter wanted to marry someone they did not approve of, drastic measures
could take place. parents could have killed her themselves , in the heat of a nasty argument.
@@susandaye8146 That is my hunch.
They may have wanted to avoid gossip if it turned out she was away with a man again. Scandalous at that time.
"Oddie's Bon Bons"! That was delightful! I love looking for your little "additions" to historic photographs. It's like looking for Alfred Hitchcock's cameos in his films. Thanks for the giggle. ^_^ 7:45
On a more respectful note, however, thank you for always treating the subjects/victims of your videos with sensitivity. As a person with a family member who was murdered in 1922, I can assure you that the passage of time does not discount a life cut short. Telling their stories is not mere entertainment - it is keeping their memory alive. They shouldn't be forgotten.
Thanks for your very kind feedback - much appreciated :)
Merry Christmas my friend!
Ive always had an infatuation with back then. I love how they dressed, I love how everything was back in the day. It embraces me. interestes me. 💘
Me too.
I was a flapper in the 20s and died from an opium overdose. (Past life). I remember it too. I remember a few others
I like to think she ran away using money she could have taken from the bank on small quantities on several ocassions and then went to try and become an author with a new identity.
Amorita Mora Oh I love that theory! And that we've all read some of her great works!
Another Gem in the beautiful necklace that is Obsolete Oddity! Can’t wait for the next one!
I'm hooked on your stories. You have a great voice for narration. Please never stop. Thanks.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback - much appreciated. :)
I love that you always seem to have so much of a connection with every events you post, your opinions near the end really are the icing on the cake. This is the first time I’ve ever replied to a TH-cam video and I’m doing it to show appreciation for the little slice of you that you provide near the end of every video! Thank you!
I appreciate that. Thanks for your very kind feedback Joe - much appreciated :)
Your accent, voice, and speech patern makes these stories that much more compelling
ANASTASIYA bksi Very true!
Yes thank you for being classy 🙂
Stop being such a sensitive bitch. Fucking is a way of life
kidnappers don't always send ransom demands--there are thousands of cases by serial killers that attest to that---i am so very sorry for your loss Oddy--one of my sisters passed away a month before my mother and i will believe in my heart to my dying day that my sister killed herself---i despise when callous people say that people that commit suicide are cowards--the only cowardly people that kill themselves are people that want to evade being brought to justice or be held legally accountable for their crimes
I totally agree - most people who commit suicide are not cowards, but very sensitive souls who cannot cope with life's pressures, or have some unbearable illness or pain.
Saz Fretz whoever says that I hope they get Cancer
The common use of the term "kidnap" is to imply a ransom demand. An abduction for other reasons is usually called an abduction.
So sorry about your cousin. His lighthearted mood on the evening of the event could be from his feeling relief that his pain would end.
Its hard to believe that an aspiring writer would not leave a note.
As usual.... I am captivated by your video! I could listen to your voice all day! Thank you.
I never clicked so fast! Now to actually listen to it! Ahh Dorothy Arnold. The Bowery Boys Podcast did a great retrospect on this case too.
Voyagersguidebook ..... The Bowery Boys? Where can I find them? Do they do old stories like this all time?
Hi, their focus is all kinds of stories from Old New York, not like Oddie's style, though there are some mysteries. But they're very informative and fun. they've been around about 10 years and now, they have a book out and they have a separate podcast for inventors. It's terrific. - boweryboyshistory.com
Voyagersguidebook ...... Thanks!! 😃
Voyagersguidebook link to Bowery Boys please? I haven't heard of it.
boweryboyshistory.com if you haven't found it yet, sorry!
Love you Oddie.. Love the special touches you put in to all your videos. The light flickering overhead..the knock on the door..fireplace flame..butterflies etc. Oh and the Oddie Choc sign..Perfection as usual.
Much appreciated my friend.
Thank you for your very kind feedback Regenia - much appreciated :)
Maybe she was pregnant and was going to have an abortion but died during the procedure. The clinic could of had away of getting rid of bodies...
Daisy
That’s a really plausible suggestion! Best one yet I think!
Maybe she was pregnant and the boyfriend, before departing for his trip, hired some person or persons to kill her affording him a perfect alibi.
oh my God- I was listening to this while very relaxed and in a meditative state, and that is what came to me!
I agree, botched abortion. Someone providing these services would have the occasion to quietly dispose of a body so they were not found out.
Daisy I was thinking this exact thing. Terribly sad.
That *deep voice* 💎
It's not just about a story, it's more about the way it is told that glues listeners' attention! Another great one❤️
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend.
I wish my doctor looked like you :)
ObsoleteOddity I'm so obliged sir! Thankyou for the compliment!😀 Wish you a healthy life & may you never need a doctor in your life! Cheers🍷
So so sorry to hear about your cousin Oddy . Your vids are amazing . I never get bored with them xx
That's a sweet compliment - thank you :)
I love your narration of all these. Simply the BEST!
I LOVE these historical mysteries! MORE PLEASE Oddy
Thank you very much for your kind feedback - much appreciated :)
Thank you so much for sharing that family history about your cousin I to this year have lost a son to Suicide he was only 21 and I'm dealing with the agony of that tragedy
M.Richards
Very shocking and mysterious enjoyed listening to this one..keep them coming..btw my condolences about your cousin sorry to hear that happen..keep doing a great job and I’ll keep watching..smiles from America..
I love the little tidbits of yourself that you add into the videos.
I am so very sorry about your cousin. I love all the old pictures. I have bunch of post cards from 1800's & 1900's. I think that is why I was drawn to your channel. I am loving all of your videos. Thank You so much for your wonderful story telling. Have a great day!
Thank you so much DeAnn :)
I love your voice with these stories. It has a hipnotic quality to it and I love the added motions. It just pulls me in.
Thanks for your great feedback Robin - very much appreciated! :)
It really is something to look forward to and makes you forget about
your ordinary day and your problems for a short while. I was always interested in criminology, so these subjects are right up my alley. Thanks again, great stuff!!! 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend.
Sorry about the breaking glass, they didn't use tempered glass panels in those days :)
Omg!! The cat. Love it. I love this channel.
Fantastic story. You are the best Oddie at finding these and all the “what if’s “ you propose...Thanks so much!!!!We really LOVE your videos!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for your kind feedback my friend, much appreciated :)
Just wanted to say it brings a smile to my face every time I see you’ve uploaded again!
I LOOOVE the picture of the perfume store. All the pictures used r BEAUTIFUL ! Very well done AGAIN ! 👏👏👏 ill b waiting for your next project👍✌
14:10 ODDIE GOO BALLS!! That totally cracked me up. Good job on the humor 🤹Very good story! Loved the videos and pictures. The kitty cat was such a sweet appearance 4:16

Thank you. I appreciate all the work you put into these and the education in your videos.
Angel Miller - That's the best theory I've heard in the comments.
Dude u may have hit it
With that fabrication
Because her did say would she like some company she told her mother no
Because her mother was sickly and she had already prepared a sister for her debut
Which is our debutant ball today
K:D
Angel Miller How would this man hear about her? The family wanted to keep it under wraps and its not like she was posting manuscript after manuscript. She made two. Still, good theory.
Two that we know of. And even if only two, how many hands did they pass through at each publication before being sent back?
+Angel Miller Brilliant theory!
This is with out doubt one of the best channels on youtube and the work put into it is outstanding thankyou so very much for all your efforts
Thank you my friend for your wonderful feedback! :)
You are so right!
Thanks for your very kind feedback, much appreciated :)
Stay strong!
Ahhh Oddie... I'm so sorry for the loss of your loved one. I hope that he has found peace at last. 💗
One of your best! I bet she got sick of being rich, left the states, and probably moved to Australia. Loved the animations, especially the cat.
Thanks for your great feedback my friend!
NTV Online why Australia?
@@sixsixxsixxxx Because Australia is a vast country you can get lost in
Till next time ☺❤❌⭕
P. S. May your cousin rest in peace. My condolences to you and your family 👼🙏
Thank you so much my friend - very kind :)
Your voice and pronouncement of words is mesmerizing.
Thank you my friend for your very kind feedback :)
Thank you for describing what happened in your family. The same thing happened in my father's family. A relative who had been in a horrible situation seemed very cheerful right before he killed himself. His young daughter was in a vegetative state after she was in a car accident. She would never get better.
That's heartbreaking.
I love your channel. It's not all major cases everyone else just copies from TV shows. You have a hypnotic voice I can listen to for hours. I've bing watched all your videos today. Can't wait for more.
Thanks for your very kind feedback - much appreciated! :)
Hmmm,
History, mystery, chilling music and backgrounds, photographs, small easter eggs.......
PERFECT FOR ME 👌
Thanks for your great feedback my friend!
My last name was Bonner before I got married
Proudly first Oddie. Hats off to ya.
I love the special effects.
Well, she said" my mum will always belive it was an accident "
Why would you say that if you don't plan anything?🤔
I agree, except that she bought a dress for an upcoming event and she, a writer, never left a suicide note. I'd love to know if that dress was in her closet? If not, she could have bought it FOR her suicide (saying it was for her sister's debutante ball). It sounded like if she did kill herself, she was planning on making it look accidental, not just to disappear.
It's so bizarre that the family didn't contact the police for over a month (6 weeks). Clearly, they cared more about their reputation than their daughter.
ObsoleteOddity needs his own air time on the history channel.... these are great!
That's so sweet! Thank you :)
I love these stories. I love this guys voice. I wish he would do more of these. I think ive watched them all so far. I really look forward to my notifications of new stories. Please do more of these...my favorite channel on you tube!!!
Thank you very much Karen for your great feedback - much appreciated!
Thats funny because last night i couldn't sleep so i put this on and i fell asleep. I had to rewatch this again because i missed it
Not saying his voice is boaring..no..no..just very soothing
Oh my ...what a very sad story this is i feel so much for dorothy's parents going through all those years of not knowing what become of her 💔 i think she took her own life for a few reasons #RIPDOROTHY ❤
I am also equally sad to hear of your cousins suicide how dreadful for you all & for him to feel so depressed & unhappy that he took his life, i have come close to taking my own a few times due to very heartbreaking times in my life but i keep fighting everyday & can empathise totally with how he must have felt..ty for sharing such a personal story ❤ xxx
Oddie, I love when you do the voices!
Oddie I love your videos. Each one is a work of art, and they just get better. Please keep it up!
Thank you very much for your kind feedback Susan, much appreciated!
I love it!! I just now got a smart TV and can watch your videos on my big screen 65 inch T.V.!
My aunt graduated from Wellesley and lived in Greenwich village when she graduated in 1913 ... my aunt was amazing and fantastic woman ...I loved this story
Another cool Manhattan story . The city I love .Great vid as usual .
Cheers my friend! I will get to visit one day.
Interesting, I love the moving objects in the picture like the kitty.
Impress UrbanDivinity I agree
agree with this so much!
I
Quite possible.
I'm a french pal, from Montréal (Québec, Canada) and tonight, I feel really lucky because I just discovered your existence today (andby the way, the existence of your -already huge- storytelling video-library)!!!-
So, I don't have to wait impatiently for the next one!!!
(!!! INCREDIBLE !!!!)
Please accept all of my respects and felicitations.
Much appreciated my friend 😳
Stay tuned, I'm working on another, will be ready by the end of the week!
Greetings from Switzerland!
I'm sorry for your loss Oddie. 💜💜
Ur channel name should be OBSESSIVE oddity, these are amazing! I love the narrator’s voice, it fits the stories. I love the *”DOOM”* undertones
Shawna Bouillet
But the Bronte's could actually write
I don't know if she could r not
Even though she fancied she could
But she is educated and not married and 25 years old
Not allowed to live in Greenwich village
but her father felt she would not use it for a writing experiment but for a sexual one
so she may have been caught b 4 in a compromised position
Just sayin
I’m sorry for your loss.
Thanks for your very kind feedback my friend - very much appreciated :)
