@Target Walleye: something to try that has worked for me the last couple days: use a glow Trout ‘N Pout, but remove the split-ring and treble hook and replace it with a duolock snap and attach a tube jig under the Trout N Pout. I’m using a small Berkley prerigged tube under the heavy Trout N Pout. It has excellent frantic injured fish action 😉
Awesome video with lots of good info. As a kid, fishing Lake Winnebago in WI on the west shore, we’d catch a TON of lawyer on the reefs in mid/late February while walleye fishing at night. Have never specifically targeted them. Going to head out this weekend for some night time lawyer action. Thank you! 1 second ago
Excellent video. I live in Finland but burbot fishing here is very similar and this video had everything I know and more. Also I’ve used big peeled shrimps from grocery store freezer to catch burbots effectively. Just melt them and microwave a few seconds to make them a bit tougher. Bonus side with them is that they don’t decrease the hooking ratio as much as more solid cut fish bait might.
Yeah buddy! I just started last year and just went out tonight for the first time this year and pick up 6 that were 8-10lbs. One that was 12lb. I'm from merrifield and always looking to get out.
Going to lake of the woods in a week and a half. We are going through border view lodge. But it is definitely on my list to caught one. Thank you so much for the tips and I did order some Big Nasty Tackle stuff to have on hand. Keep up the great videos
Best video ever. Great work:) Can't wait to try and catch one through the ice. Only one I have caught was on cut sucker fishing Cats on Pool 4. It was really small, 12" or so. Headed to Mille Lacs Feb.16th. Maybe we can catch one at night with your techniques!
Awesome video man, suuuper helpful. Headed to Leech Lake this weekend and hoping to spend a night on the ice targeting these beauties. Weekend after that we’re headed to LOTW where i hope to do the same and maybe get some bicatch lakers haha. Would make my day to catch either through the ice. Thank you so much for sharing, i can hit the ice with some confidence now.
Great video! I'm a Northern New Hampshire resident and I just started fishing for burbs this winter and I'm not afraid to admit that I got skunked... I spent entirely too much time in a non productive lake because it is close to home and I was learning how to catch lake trout on the jig rod. I only got to jig for burbs after dark once for about 3 hours in a bigger lake...then I set my traps and came back the next morning to nothing .... watched 3 guys catch a bunch about 150 yards from me....lol In 7 - 12 feet semi rocky Didn't want to barge in on them but I saved that knowledge for next time I was given a crate full of antique "cusk traps" simple stick with a spring steel flag and a wire trigger Laws say check at least once every 24 hours and I'm allowed 6 traps plus regular fishing lines... Set em up vertically next to the hole so you can find them if it snows and snow machines don't run them over I used golden shiners for bait and here we cant use treble hooks with bait... so I run single hooks on just about everything respect the fish ! I release 99.9% of my catch year round Looking forward to trying some burb chunks Our ice is on it's way out sadly, but I'm still hopeful it will lock back up for a bit more fun Your truck fishing sounds great! A lot of really good information in this video! Burbot are a riot to fish for! I have the Trout and Pout Spoons, but will have to grab the Pout Pounder Jigs.

Man last ice season was my first time targeting burbot, and me and a buddy must have caught 120+ fish in a few hours it was nuts..... Now I’m Addicted LOL
Just went to like your video and it turns out that I had already liked it! Must be getting old 😂 I love your passion for these fish. I share the same passion and hope to get on some big ones one day. I mainly Fish Flaming Gorge down in Wyoming. Thanks for the enthusiasm and the great information.

If running trebles use a fas-tach clip between the lure and hook. When you bait up, a quarter twist takes the treble off, and you can load up the shank of the hook with t-boned bait vs loading the hook points, which become de-baited quickly slamming dirt on bottom. Just a easy tip for anybody interested
Thanks Jordan! I haven’t but would LOVE to one day. Actually my aunt has a cabin there, but haven’t been able to visit since I was a little kid. Need to change that!

Hello ! Awsome video man! From sweden here, heard there is burbot in a lake close to my home. Hardly anyone fishing there. Done a few tries 3 nights in a row but not a single bite... have been fishing in shallow water. Think the lakes deepest spot is 25-30feet. Think this is where i should try to find them? Thanks for the advise so far , switching out my bait from shrimps xD
Every lake is different, but I usually have the best luck starting at the deepest hole of the lake, then working my way in towards the first structure that butts up to it. Definitely don't be scared to hit shallow water nearby there though. Good luck!
Cool video...going up to Cold Lake AB for a couple overnights (a first for me) for some big lakers but will be targeting burbot during the nights, thx good info!
Thank you very much for this video, I caught my first pout on LOTW last year on a rattle real at 3:00 am, was targeting walleye, but I was supper excited to pull it up. It was only about 2 lbs so smallish but tasted great and has gotten me more interested in targeting them. I'm looking to hit up lake of the valley, if you know what lake I mean by that name you where I'm talking about. Any tips for that location would be great if you can help
Awesome! And yes I’ve fished it. They like deeper 35-40’ water out there. Fish the bottom of the break. Lots of numbers of fish but still have a chance at sticking a big one. Good luck! And be safe because the ice can be sketchy out there in areas.
I like the 1 1/8th ounce trout&pout, but i remove the treble hook, add a large offset gamakatsu j hook, and pack it with raw shrimp. Nice and oily, and they stay on the hook for a long time pounding bottom.i prefer the single hook over the treble as it seems to bite and hold best. I also take a small lightstick, crack it, and u.v. epoxy it to the side of the lead. Its instant and cracks off the next time youre out with a squeeze of a pliers. Always bright, always charged, and deadly.
Sweet video! Now I really want to try sleeping out after lake trout fishing this winter... We hook into the odd ling chasing lakers in 60-70' of water, should I just stay put there for the night or work my way in shallower?
Each fishery is different, but I usually have better luck sliding up a hair shallower after dark. Try moving to the bottom edge of the break just in from where you're catching them in the daytime. Always helps to set up a deadstick or tip-up shallower to help dial-in where they're coming through at different times of the day. Good luck!
curious how long you spend in a spot with no action when truck fishing before you move on? also have you tried colored glow jigs like orange, yellow or red? i make jigs and some colors glow really bright also..

Take an empty eye drops bottle and insert a needle for inflating a soccer ball into the tip. reassemble the bottle. Insert the needle into a whole dead minnow and fill the abdomen with air. It keeps the minnow vertical while the jig head pounds the bottom.
So you wouldn't tie a barrel snap directly to braid? I was going to run one rod with straight power pro...but I was thinking about the little give when you have a mono leader. we don't catch big ones, they run, 2-6 lbs. all shallow rocks/gravel/sand 4-7 ft. the lake is max 19 ft.
They are soooo tasty. I know a lot of people do the lobster boiling dealio...but I prefer deep-fried little chunks or even sauteing them like scallops in garlic butter.

Anyone ever add scent to cut bait? Im at flaming gorge and most people use sucker meat or chub meat but I dont hear anyone adding like garlic or anise to it.
Absolutely. I've heard good things about them. I wouldn't even be afraid to bump up to the 2000 size for the bigger spool and higher gear ratio...it'll bring in 8" more line per crank. Would fit 8- or 10-lb mono better and typically bigger reels are going to have smoother drags.

@@jjmcg9688 your 1000 will handle it just fine. But also becasue then I can pull them off my ice rods and use them in the summer too. That 2000 will still work even tho it isn't marketed as an ice fishing reel - you'll be good!
Yes. Though, they aren't as plentiful as the Gorge or Fontenelle. I've not heard of too many people targeting them on Boysen. People often catch them by accident though.
Companies dont put good hooks on their stuff because they want to overcharge you for a pack of good hooks at the tackle store. Mustad KVD EWG treble hooks are like 9bucks for a 6 pack where i am at. Most guys are replacing their bass crankbaits with those hooks.

I've ben buying more of the 2000 and even 3000 (depending on brand) for burbot and walleye ice fishing setups because of the few things I mentioned above. But also becasue then I can pull them off my ice rods and use them in the summer too. That 2000 will still work even tho it isn't marketed as an ice fishing reel - you'll be good!
Great video BAM
Awesome Video very informative! Where are you located out of?
Thx!! I live in Brainerd, MN.
@@TargetWalleye Nice I live in the area as well! Do you know if the burbot are starting to pick up on gull?
@@kozynorthoutdoors5155 it's the tail-end of the spawn right now. Peak seemed to be a bit over a week ago.
We fish them in northern Ontario and they are often in black water lakes.
Interesting!
I loved this video so much!
Thanks Much EH !!!!!!! 🎣
Eh! 👊🔥
Does Boysen have them as well? Great tips there, thanks!
Yes. Though, they aren't as plentiful as the Gorge or Fontenelle. I've not heard of too many people targeting them on Boysen. People often catch them by accident though.
@@wwittkop Hey, thanks for the info! I hear they are great to eat..
Great video this helped a lot!!!!!!!!
AWESOME! 👊 Hope you have an awesome season!!
You too!!!!!!
What a great video!
Companies dont put good hooks on their stuff because they want to overcharge you for a pack of good hooks at the tackle store. Mustad KVD EWG treble hooks are like 9bucks for a 6 pack where i am at. Most guys are replacing their bass crankbaits with those hooks.
Where do you get the bands?
Awsome. Thank you
Well done video good sir
What size crank bait snaps are you using?
The size 00 and size 0 are what I use for 100% of my open-water and ice-fishing applications.
And what reel do you guys use for lake trout?
Thanks 😂😊
Burbot are in the cod family, they taste just like cod.
Born in Brainard, Lived in Deerwood. Got smart and moved to Palm Springs fished wearing shorts in March. No Burbot within a thousand miles. Dang. Way to many soy boys with skinny jeans and man buns.
