Underrated complement, but thanks for posting this ahead of the time of year that you guys went out, so it gives us time to think about trying this ourselves.
Another great video, Jay! I love this Canadian Angle series/collab with Meat Eater! I also would like to see more fishing with Sean. Seems like a great dude!
Great episode! We called them Mariah here. Delicious fish. Fun to catch in December/January. We cube ours into 1” pieces and put it into boiling salted water for a couple minutes then into a pan with garlic butter. Prairie lobster! Lake Diefenbaker or Last Mountain holds good numbers of these delicious critters.
Love seeing another person that loves burbot, I’ve dedicated my past couple ice seasons to figuring them out and I’ve still got lots to learn. Biggest is 32 7/8” though!!!
@@Nanooky taste like chicken to me, neutral flavor, if you boil them in sprite or 7 up and dip in butter theyre alot like crab without the frustration of the shell.
This is a welcome reprieve in eastern ontario - checked 4 lakes today - and the 2023 season is looking grim in my neck of the woods, lots of really sketchy ice.
Steve, you need to check out the burbot derby up Flin Flon/bakers narrows in Northern manitoba. Also the the lake trout derby as well. You are missing out on the massive moose up there too.
Great episode Sean and jay, Will have to try for them on lake Simcoe using your tips, Someone gave me one last year on the ice and i brought it hone and ate it, Fine eating fish,
caught one of these years ago, had no idea what it was, freaked me out. My father went on to tell me how when ice fishing for trout back in the 60s, if they caught one of these, it was left on the ice to die. ...... others would ski-doo around the lake looking for discarded "Ling"
I love cusk their my favorite fish to catch nd eat. We call them cusk in maine nd used to get them over 12lbs years ago nd some alot bigger you'd have to drill or chisel the hole bigger to get them out haha my dad got one 44inches long nd had to drill 2 holes to the first hole for its head nd huge belly to get thru. This was back before digital or accurate scales tho so no idea on that ones weight
That underwater footage...WOW! So damn cool! Bucket list fish for me. I live in Oregon, keeping meaning to take a trip up to Washington to try and get one. I don't think we have any here to speak of, though I know some live in the Columbia. Good luck targeting them.
Fun video! Y'all hear about that guy a couple weeks ago breaking the Indiana burbot record twice in one day? With stuff like that happening, these guys must be underappreciated
Crazy how aggressive Burbot are. I have had them come off the bottom fishing in 20ft of water to attack my transducer. They sometimes swim around the hole just a couple feet down from the ice.
UNDERRATED? WOW they are delicious and were on my bucket list! I managed to catch a bunch off the shore of Lake Michigan! I even Made a video on my channel!
We catch Ling in the northeast Atlantic (Jersey coast) and eat every one!!!! Check out puffer fish, we make fried puffer pops, changed my life. You’re welcome
I'm wondering if they have sensory things on the sides of their faces? I noticed a lot of your fish on the camera would cruise their mouth past the bait and go past it, letting the bait rub their cheeks, then immediately back up and strike
Burb O'Clock!
THIS IS THE BURBOT EPISODE IVE NEEDED MY WHOLE LIFE!!!!!! IM ADDICTED TO GOING AFTER DIRTY BURBS!
Take a machete and cut their tail off. They bleed out and the meat is more white coloured.
Well that was a fishing treat! Super underwater footage, could not believe how many fish it took to unsnag Sean!
love the gull creepin around at 9:21, wants some of that ciscoooo
Bring Sean back for another ep! Dude’s as wholesome as they get
Steven R Way Better Hunter
Extinct in the UK, appreciate what you have!

What does burbot taste like? Caught many, but never ate them.

People leave burbot on the snow for birds? That should be a crime!!! Best tasting freshwater fish in north America
I caught a 11lber in Candle lake in 2008 December time. First time ice fishing in Canada.
Great video Jay
What’s a beautifully coloured pike!
Fun video! Y'all hear about that guy a couple weeks ago breaking the Indiana burbot record twice in one day? With stuff like that happening, these guys must be underappreciated
Just got broken again! The record stood for 32 years and has now been broken 3 times by 2 anglers in just a few months. Wild stuff
What a beautiful pike
As a SE Missourian never heard of them. Look like a snake head or bowfin as someone said..that being said looked fun and I def try one 👍
Crazy how aggressive Burbot are. I have had them come off the bottom fishing in 20ft of water to attack my transducer. They sometimes swim around the hole just a couple feet down from the ice.
Got the head of a mongolian taimen, the back end of an eeln and the meat of a shrimp. Wonderful fish burbot are.
Great eating with clear butter& lemon
We used to have these in the Uk, presumably leftover from the ice age. They seem to have gone extinct about 100 or so years ago ☹️
They taste so good fresh water cod
Very cool!
The camera makes it Fun!
JO JO IN VT 💞💨❄️☃️

My first fish I caught ice fishing was a burbot. Caught 6-8 all very small.
Was hoping to target burbot this year and the little bit of insight helps just need a lake closer
Now I have to go lung fishing, and get an underwater camera! Keep up the great work Jay!

I love Ling cod in a beer batter and malt vinegar.
Out here in Maine they are best known as cusk.

We catch Ling in the northeast Atlantic (Jersey coast) and eat every one!!!! Check out puffer fish, we make fried puffer pops, changed my life. You’re welcome
Caught my PB Burbot this ice fishing season 32 inches
I love that you're both lefties! Me too!!
I'm wondering if they have sensory things on the sides of their faces? I noticed a lot of your fish on the camera would cruise their mouth past the bait and go past it, letting the bait rub their cheeks, then immediately back up and strike
