  • I surprisingly got a LOT of requests for a plant based vegan spam recipe! I knew I could do it and honestly.... it was GOOD! This is a simple vegan spam using Jackfruit and beyond Sausage! If you want to make it from scratch you can simply use my Beyond Sausage clone recipe and you wouldn't even need the casings!

    Splant could be the name. "Spam" is sp(iced h)am so "splant" would be s(piced)plant. If Spam was making this though I'd just called it "Vegan Spam".

    I just want to say thanks to this recipe I was able to make a dish that is such a staple in my culture after not being able to have it for 2 years now. Thank you so much! My grandma even told me that she couldn’t tell the difference between the real and fake spam based recipes!

    i grew up vegetarian and i remember eating this stuff called "Wham" by Worthington Foods. i later found out it was a vegetarian version of spam. loved it btw.

    I keep waiting for the Spam company to give us a vegan version - am I naively optimistic? I regularly check the grocery aisle for it, right next to Hormel's vegan chili which already exists.

    Btw the discoloration and the oil is the casing, sometimes with the beyond sausage, if u bake it the casing just melts

    Take at least 7 kinds veg. Cooled and ground at least 1 potatoe agar agar stevia or corn syrup for authentic beet for color walnuts salt smoke onion garlic pepper blend all set up in cans chill overnight slice and enjoy

    I wis there was an alternative to the beyond part... not all countries had market ready vegan meats and we have to make stuff from scratch

    With the right seasoning, that could be like deviled ham. I remember deviled ham in the area with canned meats, but it is more loose. I miss Spam.

    I’m ridiculously excited about this. Can not wait. I made your steak a couple nights ago. Followed the impossible steak recipe but used two beyond patties cause it’s what I can get. It was FANTASTIC!! My husband and I loved it. Def gonna be on the menu often. Did two steaks but sliced them in half long ways. So two meals for us. I love the things you do!! Oh and maybe Plam! Plant ham. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I buy rolls of vegetarian "ham" at the Chinese grocery stores here in Houston that might be a GREAT addition to this recipe. Have you seen them? They are about 3 inches in diameter and about a foot long (I think you can buy some half that length, too). I only have about 1/3 left of the last one I bought in my freezer and the part of the name on the package is Veggie Crown Ham. I think I have seen them called Japanese ham at another store, too - but they are definitely a Chinese product. I have tried to describe the flavor to people who haven't tried it and I say it tastes like Chinese Spam. They also have a "chicken" flavor, but I think the color and texture would be great for this recipe - when mixed with everything else. If you're interested, I can go pick up another one and send you the package information, the store where I buy it, a picture of the wrap, etc.

      I think it would fall apart - like putting meatloaf in a stew. You can tell it has the consistency of meatloaf when he cuts the loaf and it starts to crumble.

      progressing Basically a clever way the Koreans used leftover rations/preserved food given to country after the US/Korean war. Traditional Korean spices in a broth with cheap wheat noodles, egg, processed cheese, hotdog/processed sausage, and Spam. In a sense it was a rehab food program post-war and the Navy also wasn’t interested in shipping massive amounts of canned food back to US Naval bases. It was an extremely efferent and affordable way to feed the country post-war and it eventually stuck on as a cultural staple. SPAM is actually a bastard acronym for “spiced ham” which I only learned recently

    FO-SPAM. CUT YOUR LOAF UNTO 1/4’s then freeze them and cut it cold to get spam canned shaped slices. Flour with cornstarch before frying in oil.

      I bet you can try with peas and mushrooms - due to mushrooms being gelatinous and peas being the base protein of beyond meat. You can maybe rig the peas into beyond meat - due to sauce stache having those recipes!

    I think Cheap Easy Vegan did a spam recipe a couple months ago. I think it was her. Don't quote me... Yours is PROBABLY going to be amazing... judging by your usual victories, but sadly not the first.

    To be honest, if you wanted cheaper alternative, I suggest getting tofurkey, which is about $2 each at trader joe's, and then since the slices adhere to each other pretty well, just dice that up, Cody all the cubes well and egg, and then carefully fry them in oil, and if you're panifying them, make sure each side Cooks quickly but throw away, so the egg can truly coat the whole entire thing. I've never tried it deep fried or air fried, but I guess it's worth a try. Basically, the egg helps conceal the juices and flavor, and prevent it from falling apart during cooking. After this, you can throw it and pretty much anything you want, as far as I know. This is based off of an experiment I did, because I saw so many videos using spam, so I did this instead to have some sort of canned me kind of like experience. I've never had pork ever in my life, so I don't know if it tastes like pork at all, I can just tell you taste of meat, and as much cheaper than what he's doing here

    Nice! Have you ever made a vegan Vienna Sausage?
    I'm Puerto Rican and one of my favorite dishes call for sliced Vienna Sausages seared & added to yellow rice. I've never been able to replicate that dish.

    This is a fun thing to watch, but hardly something many people are likely to do themselves. Spam is pretty cheap but Beyond Sausages are decidedly expensive. You have to be a real Spam lover to want to make this vegan version.

    So I'm gonna attempt to make this for my niece who is vegan ..
    I didn't get the beyond sausage,
    I got some different plant base sausage that has jack fruit in it , but I also pick up a can of jack fruit just as well ..
    An at this point the say Vegan Spam is a thing but yet I can't find it in stores ..
    Giving this a try to turn it into some musubi..

      So you’re asking for a cream cheese recipe? Or a cheesecake recipe? I’ve been making vegan cheesecakes for two decades. I even catered desserts for vegan weddings. I can’t imagine taking the time to make my own vegan cream cheese when tofutti cream cheese has been around since I was 20 years old. Even my mom can’t tell the difference.

      Gem•in•i nothing. I use 3 containers of cream cheese, 1 cup of sugar, and lemon juice for the filling. I do different things for the crust. Sometimes pretzels and sugar and butter in a food processor. Sometimes graham crackers if you can find them without honey. You can mix in other things, too. Blueberries. Vegan caramel....have you ever tried to make a vegan ice cream cake? That’s a fun one.

      I agree.. beets juice would give it the color as well as liquid; instead of water/ smk paprika a hint of smoke as well as color! 😎

    8:58 I'm thinking the recipe would work better if it's just 1, not 2 beyond sausage packages, and I know I will use a beet coloring, but still! That's as close as we can get.

    I’m allergic to jack fruit because of the naturally occurring latex. I want to makes this, do you think heart of palm would substitute? I have celiac so wheat gluten is out, do yo have any suggestions?! TIA!

    It's weird because some of the meat products I miss the most are things like spam, hot dogs, bologna. I never would have guessed I would miss bologna sandwiches.

    That is some expensive spam, because Beyond sausage is $9 a pack at Kroger in north Georgia.

      Spam is about $4 / can in Atlanta. Including the unripe jackfruit, I would say the price was about the same for the vegan versus real Spam.

    I think the East coast version of Spam is Scrapple, it's the scraps of the animal after getting the meat stuff out of it.

      I eat lots of local fruit! But man, I gotta say, I miss Spam.
      It's a staple here. It's put into everything.
      So I meant "it's hard," as in I miss actual Spam, not as in being vegan is hard. It is not. I love my plant based life. However, I'm definitely going to try to make this Vpam recipe!!

    health origins has a recipe using okara and chick pea flour. that makes vegan spam. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to. This one looks pretty darn pricey! two whole packs of beyond sausage for some spam? I think I'd rather have the sausage. I guess I'm not a big spam fan. lol good experiment though.

      @victoriablanc761 thanks so much for pointing out that recipe! I googled it and it looks good. I make my own soymilk, so I have okara. Can't wait to try it. (I love beyond too, but it's a special splurge for me since it's so pricy).

      @@dreamersmask glad it helped you. we make our own soymilk also with an electric milk machine so we also have a lot of okara. she is on you tube here also and has a whole series of videos on what to do with okara. have fun exploring!

    There's Vegan spam now!!! Its available in whole foods and sprouts and its called Omnifoods. I haven't tried it yet, but ill be looking for it
