It's great to hear that you got Jamacian citizenship by descent! I'm currently working on Italian citizenship by descent for myself and kids, but the process for Italian citizenship by descent seems more complex compared to Jamacian. I'm looking forward to a moment like you shared of receiving those official citizenship papers!

I am going to Jamaica on holiday next month and will be applying for citizenship while I am there. Both my parents are Jamaican born and I have all documents, so it should be straightforward. Looking forward to having a Jamaican passport one day🇯🇲

Congratulations! 🎆🎉🎉🎉 This is amazing on a psychological AND on a practical level. More and more people are finding that it makes a lot of sense to have dual citizenship, or to have resident status in two or more countries. Good for you!

Thank you so much. I am still in shock and am pinching myself. I am not sure why so many of us have not done this before but I am glad I was able to get it done now.

I thought that there’s a Jamaican consulate here in Panama. Im looking to do the same exact thing. I’m currently waiting for a response from my lawyer here after months of waiting and no updates. I’m ready to just find another lawyer. Looking forward to the day that I’ll have both passports in hand.

They do have a consulate in Panama but I found the one in the Bahamas to be extremely responsive so I went that route. I didn’t need an attorney though.

@@AbroadAbility I appreciate you responding. I’m having a time with a lawyer that was referred in the WhatsApp group chat. Nothing is being done and she was paid. Some of the things that I’m being charged for were already done. I’m just trying to be patient but at the same time I want to just ask for my money back and go elsewhere.

Im getting my citizenship from my mother here in Panama. I had my birth certificate authenticated years ago. I’m considered Panamanian born abroad. Everything was done just that it had been about 20 years since I started the process and wanted them to look into it so I could complete the process. I’ve had family members come years before and get their cedula and passport. This is my first time back in 19 years and v before that, 20 years.

quick question, when you got your photos taken, did you get them notarized since you went to the consulate? I know said you used different sizes. I'm just trying to figure this out. DId you have to have a notarized copy of your driver's license or passport as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

@@AbroadAbility Thank you for responding to me, forgive me for all the questions, this seems like a lengthy process. I saw that you went to the Bahamas for the appointment. Did you do that because it was quicker instead of mailing it in? I'm looking to go to the consulate in Miami, FL but since it's 4 hours away from me, I wasn't sure if it would be a waste of time and I can just mail it in. I guess I'm looking for what's the quickest to get this processed.

That’s wrong information you can’t get Jamaican citizenship through a great grandparent. Its only parent or grandparent.

@@nygeeJones ok. Not sure how the Jamaican application is misinformed. When I applied they said I could use my great grandparent as well but I didn’t need to since I also had a separate lineage through a grandparent. Do you mind me asking why you feel that they won’t allow it? I want to share the correct information or maybe it has changed since I applied.

@@AbroadAbility I called the Washington DC and Chicago embassy and they said I couldn't get the citizenship through my great grandfather. My father has to get it first since he’s the grandchild and once he has it. I can get the citizenship through my father. my great grandfather was born in Seaford Town Westmoreland in 1903 like your grandfather. From me to my great grandfather its too far of a gap because my grandmother and my father didnt clam the citizenship. Most countries will only allow you to get citizenship through a parent or grandparent. They might say great grandparent but most likely they wont allow that.
