I just turned 18 when Shindler’s list came out. It was the first R rated film i went to see. It was the first time i saw an audience give a standing ovation in a movie theater.
I will never forget that day and i will never the film. To me, that was greatest movie experience of my life.
    Thank you Mr. Spielberg.

I produce music for a living and I just turned 40. I did a small "documentary" about my life and there were clips of Steven's movies. I think he's my biggest idol of them all. His films are such a big part of my identity; his way of looking at the world still brings tears to my eyes. As I grow older and older I think his effect on me gets greater and greater. I'm usually not that "fan type" that goes crazy for anyone but the way Spielberg has always been an advocate for imagination, creativity and humanity speaks deeply to my soul. A world without magic isn't a world worth living for. Thank you, Steven.

I grew up in 70's & 80's, so Spielberg hits like Jaws, ET, Close Encounters, Raiders of Lost Ark, Poltergeist, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler's List were both larger than life on screen, but also the bread & butter of my generation's film going experience. Spielberg could do anything, and never disappointed. Yes directors from Coppola, Lucas to Scorsece and DePalma at the time were awesome too, and Spielverg's chief peers/rivals. But his films stand the test of time, are so bold, well acted, well casted, well directed, and all the rest. He has only director nominee nominated six decades in a row. He is prolific, hard working, kind, visionary, and the most commercially successful director of alltime!

What a gifted individual, and Bravo to his mother for offering him encouragement when he was young. I have not seen several of these films because of my avoidance of crowds, but I will definitely search them out for viewing at home. 👍

all these tributes and interviews with Spielberg in the days of the Oscar voting make me think that he wasn't interested at the DGA and he could win the Oscar for best director leaving everyone stunned and incredulous (and I would be happy if that happens)

    • @jedijones
      @jedijones ปีที่แล้ว +2

There have been a lot of interviews with John Williams as well. Feels like they definitely think he has a shot at his 6th Oscar. Working against him might be that Fabelmans didn't have wall-to-wall score in it. But, in his favor, it had onscreen piano playing, which helps call attention to the music. But Fabelmans has just collected few important wins outside of its smash success at the Globes, where Everything Everywhere was treated as very much a secondary player. Everything Everywhere is way over-nominated at the Oscars, right down to its absurd double nomination in Best Supporting Actress. That suggests it's in a very strong position at the Oscars, but I am sure there will be a huge split between younger voters and older voters on it. Fabelmans looks like it's trying to coalesce the older voters around it. But it's got an uphill battle to counteract the momentum for Everything Everywhere including with all the new Academy members they added to increase "diversity."

I love this… I’ve always been a big fan of Stephen Spielberg, even if I didn’t realize I was… the movies and arts themselves… the illustration of various concepts of human interaction over time.
Some gates are walked through, some are held from coming down, some are burst through, some are lifted… the concepts of pathways and and interwoven fabrics overlay of circumstance… silos visualized and worked through as simplicity and complexity of pie charts and balls of light.
Think of a kaleidoscope and trying to put a gate through a spinning confluence of color and trying restrict some aspects with that gate through the middle of that scope.
The movements of better…. It’s easy to make fun of people… sometimes I pause and think to myself… your unresolved anger is showing…. Not always the case, but it happens. Change management and all…
Personally, I’m not perfect. I’ve made mistakes and learned from them. I still make them, I try… and work and be better while trying to protect people I care about. The judgments of others is real and can have an impact… it’s not hard to see how that happens fairly quickly… from those who once cared about you… sometimes but not always.
It can make you want to close down and sometimes not. The upside of these things… ghandi and colonial, MLK and civil rights… me too… but these concepts of streams and influence over time. Opinion rather than populism… streaming rights.

I wish I could find a video about the visual easter eggs in The Fabelmans, I mean the shots in the movie that are very similar to shots in other Spielberg movies. I have spotted a few and I wonder if I'll spot more when I watch the movie again (I have the 4K Bluray now). For example, the skeleton jumpscare like the one in Raiders of the lost ark, or the group of friends on bicycles at the top of the road, or the close-up of an armadillo by the side of the road with the car coming from the left and past it to the right, that shot is exactly like a shot in Close encounters of the third kind. I'm sure there must be others.

There are hate groups on the political left and the political right, and what really needs to be exposed are the 'passive-aggressive' hate groups on the political left and on the political right that also contribute to division within society, yet they are able to function without being called out for it. It's important to be aware of both problematic types and what damage they do to the breaking down of the fairness, unity and peace within a society. When we reduce both types we give way to more love and community, and prosperity.

Interesting movie. Honestly, he really captured the betrayal well. I couldn't watch. It was terrible. Then, once that was out of the way, there was a somewhat clumsy portrayal of culture shock. It's doubtful these things actually took place the way they're delivered. The poetic license only increases from that point onward. Some of the themes and messaging seemed ill-informed to me. The final scene at CBS Studio was initially baffling because it seemed to be cut short. Of course, it made sense, from, I guess, a particular point of view. I would have watched a part two if it existed. Overall, a decent effort. Spielberg made some great movies back in the day, full of the little details necessary to deliver a memorable experience. 8.0/10.
For comparison, Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark is an 8.9.

I'm sorry, but I believe that Spielberg has directed Hollywood into the method has become. Invented the summer blockbuster and also made the franchise a fundamental part of the business. And the movies themselves haven't deteriorated, including his- as on his watch audiences have been dumbed down by spoon-feeding how they are supposed to respond to the film. I started going to movies less and less going back to the 1980s which is where he developed his control over the general nature of Hollywood "product". Now we're either watching "content on devices or we're seeing bloated over-the-top prductions like "Oppenheimer".
