Sorry I’m always asking my mom and the other people who grew up during this because I’m just so interested in other people’s lives when I was a kid
I am 42, I very much remember Brandy as the IT girl. There’s really few people I can think of who did teen idol as well as she did. This girl could ACT and SING and she did both well. There was never a sense she was handed a TV show just cause she was a popular singer or given a record deal JUST cause she had a popular TV show (cough***Nick/Disney***cough). Her heart was with the singing side, but she was just such a rare multi talented young star of her time. I don’t know that we’ll ever see someone kill it in the teen scene like she did. Let alone a dark skinned black woman. I loved the Brandy doll. Even as a teen I wanted one because you rarely saw favorably made black dolls before Brandy’s doll who was so cute.
@duckiemomo7511 As a teen in the late 90s/early 00s I couldn't leave my house without my discman CD player jamming (90s slang) to hits by Brandy, Usher, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, Jay Z etc I remember Titanic being a huge event film, going to see lots of teen films such as Cruel Intentions, She's All That, Varsity Blues, 10 things I hate about You etc Arcades, roller rink skating on the weekends, lots of MTV (TRL, The Real World) Pokémon, Beanie Babies, and Tamagotchi pets also come to mind. 🤗😁
Brandy was definitely the it girl of the 90s and definitely an icon. I was so proud to see her as the first black cinderella. I watched that version countless times. In all honesty, I seen her version of cinderella, more than the original animated version. Her never say never album still reigns supreme and her human and 2 eleven albums are very underrated and some of her best work. I always loved the way her braids were styled and how she proudly rocked them. She definitely stood out and made a lot young black girls enjoy wearing braids. Brandy is definitely an inspiration to women like myself. There will never be another Brandy, because she is one of a kind.
I'm 37 now and I was the biggest Brandy fan growing up in the 90s. My mom and I made a collage of her by cutting pics out of magazines and gluing them into a big cardboard slab. My first concert was Brandy at the Ohio State Fair. I remember writing to her fan club and waiting for a response. People don't acknowledge the impact she had on young Black girls. I had the braids, the outfits, my Walkman with her cassette on heavy rotation. I taught myself breath control learning her tape by pausing, rewinding, and playing until I knew ever word. Thank you for the video.
Yes!!! People forget how big Brandy was. Brandy really killed it as Cinderella both in acting and singing. Like Brandy doesn’t get enough props for the vocal performances of “Cinderella”. Performers who are the leads in Stage Musicals (on which this was based) that can actually ACT and SING are rare. There are a few people that are really good at one and passable at the other. But actually good at both the way Brandy was. Super rare. Also what I love about Moesha is that Moesha (and friends) were neither the idealized tween/teens of Disney/Nick and also weren’t like Euphoria kids. They were just normal kids, mostly good kids who messed up sometimes. A doc like this was huge overdue! Nice work.
Never Say Never came out when I was 12. It was the soundtrack of my middle school years. Me and my friends would get together in the lunchroom and sing her songs and dance. She was a brown girl with braids just like us. Representation matters so much. Thank you for making this!
I love Brandy sooo much! I've always been a huge fan. My parents are devout Christians so the only secular music I was allowed to listen to was Brandy and Destiny's Child. I bought the Cinderella VHS, bought her cassettes and CDs, had her Barbie doll, never missed an episode of Moesha, and watched all her music videos. Brandy was really that girl in the 90s (still is to me).
She's so underrated now it's fn crazy! She was everywhere and good at everything she did. She was always my fave I love her I'll love her forever. And I love to see her get her flowers cause she so deserves it.
The way I cried because I could not find a Brandy doll in any store! I remember my mom calling the stores daily asking when will they be in stock. Brandy was/is a blueprint okay!!!
Whitney screaming, “My baby!”, after presenting Brandy (skip to 19:42) has to be the most adorable thing ever! I miss her so very much. Brandy is an icon! 🫶🏾
Brandy started that teen sensation movement in the 90’s. Yes, Tevin Campbell came out first and he did have a best-selling album but he didn’t make the splash Brandy did. I hate to burst people’s bubble but Aaliyah didn’t even have the cultural impact Brandy had in the 90’s nor did Monica. Brandy was the most successful out of them especially outside of music. Brandy had the pop appeal and was marketed with the squeaky clean image that put her over and made her marketable to the white audience. And let’s keep it real, a lot of black music consumers never really showed Brandy love because they felt she was too “girly” and too “pop”. People liked Monica and Aaliyah more because they had the more “black” sound. The same way the black audience never gravitated to Whitney Houston because she was too “pop”.
Im so glad I'm not the only one that feels brandy is underrated and doesn't get enough flowers especially since she's still here/while she's still here with us. We talk about Aaliyah, Britney, xtina well what about Brandy? She was a teen idol too don't count her out. And she has longevity it's not like she came and went brandy was EVERYWHERE 🤧♥️
I feel like they didn’t fall off like Brandy. They continued to have hits, so Brandy is recognized for flopping after being everywhere. Like, she was so popular you never would’ve saw Beyoncé coming. It’s like with Ja Rule, he was big but then treated like a complete nobody. At least Ashanti still gets respect. Imagine if this happens to Drake 😳
With regards to Britney and Christina, quite frankly, they were even more popular. Having said that, Brandy should still be remembered as a major musical force, and definitely as a teen idol
As a 90’s kid and black girl, Brandy was everywhere and was a huge impact on me. I remember sitting in front of the TV every week to watch the new episodes of Thea and Moesha. I had her Cassette tape of the Brandy album and memorized every song. I wanted all my braids to look like hers. When I was 13, she starred in Cinderella and I remembered recording the premier on VCR and memorized every song. I drove my mom crazy with how many times I watched that movie. It meant so much to see true black girl representation. She is and will always be iconic💐🌹🌹

If you don’t mind me asking did you have a favorite thing from your childhood or something that you couldn’t leave the house without? Did you have any favorite groups or favorite brand?
@duckiemomo7511 As a teen in the late 90s/early 00s I couldn't leave my house without my discman CD player jamming (90s slang) to hits by Brandy, Usher, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, Jay Z etc
I remember Titanic being a huge event film, going to see lots of teen films such as Cruel Intentions, She's All That, Varsity Blues, 10 things I hate about You etc
Arcades, roller rink skating on the weekends, lots of MTV (TRL, The Real World) Pokémon, Beanie Babies, and Tamagotchi pets also come to mind.
Brandy was THAT girl in the 90s. Many people try to act like they don’t remember.
Every brandy album is a smash for me including a lot of her unreleased music.
The vocal Bible 😌😌😌
I'm 37 now and I was the biggest Brandy fan growing up in the 90s. My mom and I made a collage of her by cutting pics out of magazines and gluing them into a big cardboard slab. My first concert was Brandy at the Ohio State Fair. I remember writing to her fan club and waiting for a response. People don't acknowledge the impact she had on young Black girls. I had the braids, the outfits, my Walkman with her cassette on heavy rotation. I taught myself breath control learning her tape by pausing, rewinding, and playing until I knew ever word. Thank you for the video.
Brandy was and still is the blueprint for a lot of R&B pop singers to this day. She is definitely an icon and is underrated
Nice work.
Give this queen her flowers 💐
Never Say Never came out when I was 12. It was the soundtrack of my middle school years. Me and my friends would get together in the lunchroom and sing her songs and dance. She was a brown girl with braids just like us. Representation matters so much. Thank you for making this!
What a time to grow up with legends like Brandy.
Brandy has always been my “IT” girl. From music to tv & films, Covergirl, her own doll, Grammy - that is a legacy that should never be not spoken out.
YES YES YES!!🤍🤍 Brandy is a legend but she is so underrated when it comes to this convo. Thank you for this!
I did not grow up with Brandy but hey I think she's ICONIC
#Facts
Now she's playing her Cinderella again in Disney's Descendants 4!
And she was a chocolate girl with braids. I love her
Im so glad I'm not the only one that feels brandy is underrated and doesn't get enough flowers especially since she's still here/while she's still here with us.
I'm South African Brandy was everywhere in the 90's an international idol. I had no idea she had any scandals Moesha was my show growing up.
No because I'm literally sitting here singing "Baby". I was on the "you're so fiiiine" part when I got the notification.
She had the music, the television show, the movies, a Barbie, etc… she was truly America’s sweetheart.
Soooo I have never clicked so fast!! Brandy Rayana Norwood has been my favorite since I was 5 years old!! I'm now 32. Growing up i was completely obsessed!! I guess when I look back at it, it was because I felt like I could relate to her. She was a brown girl with braids. I saw myself. I laugh thinking about how I use to have the biggest crush on Ray-J. I just knew we would get married and Brandy would be my sister in law! 🤣 I remember smiling from ear to ear the first time I had braids. I was 6 and wanted them styled exactly like Brandy's hair in the "Baby" video lol Watched Moesha faithfully. Took over my grandmother's family dinner and made everyone watch Cinderella with me in the den when it premiered on ABC in 97. Lol "I still know" is my favorite out of the franchise..I mean Duh! Lol I still have both my brandy dolls and the autographed poster it came with! My favorite Albums of hers are Self-titled, Never Say Never, Full Moon, and TwoEleven. To meet her one day would be a dream come true!! 🥺🤧 Thank you Brandy for the fabulous memories from my childhood!! Thank God for your voice and timeless Catalog!! ❤❤
I absolutely love this comment!!!! Thank you for sharing this
@@nunuamour4557 aww of course!! I love her sooo much!!! 🥰🥰
I love this comment! I did the same when watching Cinderella! I was 7 years old and was completely obsessed! When Double platinum came on abc in 99 I was glued! I still have my Brandi doll and poster as well. I hope to one day meet her. My cousin has met and took pictures with her three times . So jealous!
@@flawlessbeauty315 lol yes glad I am not the only one! 🤣 I remember double platinum premiered as well. I found it on DVD in Walmart some years back. It was also nice to see it streaming on Netflix a while back. And your cousin meeting brandy... I'm jelly too! Lol She came to my hometown for a concert like 5 years ago and I was on a cruise during the concert...😭🤧 I missed my chance lol because Bran rarely comes to Florida.
💜💕
This was so good! I hope Brandy sees this video and knows she is LOVED!
I was in middle school when that Cinderella came out. My mom bought it and said y’all gon want to keep this. When Disney refused to stream it, I called my mom and thanked her for understanding the assignment ❤
Edit: The Boy is Mine was the very first VERSUS!!! We did it live at the bus stop daily 😂
Yes! My mum recorded Cinderella on video tape for me the day it aired for us in the UK. I kept that video for over 15 years till it broke. Now I have the dvd 💜
@@SavāgeBückeṭ yesss! I also realized nothing bought on these streaming sites are yours . You gotta get the dvd 📀 or vhs📼
Brandy will always be my first black princess and that girl. And we haven’t even *touched* on her vocals yet…
she was booked and busy, but she was also so tired. its so sad she had a mental breakdown.
Brandy inspired so many singers after her and people really don’t get it. But her music career didn’t end the 90s and that’s how a lot of people limit her relevance and impact especially considering how full moon became the reason why the industry named her the vocal Bible.
Amen thank you for honoring my favorite artist of all time! Truly is a treasure!!!! Brandy Rayana Norwood is forever an ICON! Thank you for talking about Never Say Never it is such a gem and it’s currently diamond 💎 album! Happy Early Birthday Brandy 🐐🎂❤️🌹💯
I loved many of Brandy’s earlier looks and outfits as a late 80s baby! So glad she was a part of my childhood, teenhood and adulthood! 💙
I grew up jamming Brandy and was clowned for it and I just knew in my heart they was wrong and my girl was the shit. I defended Mother DOWN.
Defending her down is facts, i still do!!
Brandy was in her Own Lane! Period.
Please never stop making content Crystal !! You are so talented and I yearn for more bftv videos 😢❤
She’s making me want to go get my braids. Brandy will forever be that girl💕🫶🏾
Brandy was that girl! As a little girl she along with the other black celebrities made me feel like I could be anything i want to be. Even Cinderela
Brandy is one of the sweetest people in real life! Such a talent. A true star! I feel so privileged to have shared energy and space with her!
I love this woman! Absolutely beautiful, humble, level headed. No one is perfect but she is a living legend
love this and her! brandy will always be my favourite artist ever!!
Brandy has such a unique beauty. I always loved how they did her eyes shadow. Beautiful voice and beautiful lady. ❤️😊
I love how this channel reminds the people.
As a teen I was obsessed with Brandy and made my mom get me the "Brandy braids" so I could look like her! I also remember buying her cd's (I love her album Human) and the Covergirl Nailslicks polish! I fangirled so hard and after watching this vid, I'm doing it all over again! LOL! This is such a great vid! Thanks! P.S. Don't get me started on the Cinderella movie...all the feels!!!!

I grew up w/Brandy, Aaliyah & Monica ... still my top girls👏🏾👏🏾 can you do smthn on Monica? She doesn't get alot of love IMO
Amazing video !
I kept staring at brandy’s braids and how fly they looked in every clip
She was an icon.. Now she’s a LEGEND 💯
I was born in 96 but my mom and grandma was such a huge Brandy fans that I was introduced to Brandy since the day I was born.
I have watched Moesha more than once, like full binge
I had the Brandy Cinderella doll
Her albums are all downloaded on my Spotify
I showed my adopted baby sister Brandy's Cinderella and she always wanna watch it now. Mind you, she's 8 .
I just love Brandy. She is an icon and a legend
Brandy deserves more flowers because she came in young but delivered musically and inspired the acts that came after her and even some of her peers. A legend
I had this version of Cinderella on VHS! I played it over and over. My big sister had all of Brandy's cds
Ever since her debut on Thea, I've been a fan of Brandy & still is today! Brandy's music has gotten me through every aspect of my life with songs that mainly hit me & what I was going through at the time. Thank you for doing this for us the fans!
LOVE me some Brandy! THEE Vocal Bible!!!
She was everything to me. Tall dark and beautiful also smart and had a loving family. Yes me and my parents were here for it.
Her hairstyles were amazing I’m going back to doing my hair like that again.
I grew up with this era of Brandy. I was such a huge fan. She was beautiful, talented, and had so many bangers I STILL play till this day. Thank you so much for the nostalgia. Brandy Norwood definitely deserves her flowers.
Brandy was the biggest black teen pop singer in the 1990s- even bigger than my girl Aaliyah. She was everywhere and was such a role model for young black girls.
@beemocha Brandy wasn't more popular than aaliyah and that's okay and you can praise Brandy without bringing up aaliyah. Brandy never had a movie as big as Romeo must die or a solo song as big as try again
I have to agree
Brandy is, was, and will always be amazing.
Brandy truly knows her strengths vocally. That's why she's such a great artist. She does her own thing while being influenced. I just wish people knew more about her today. THE IT GIRL AND VOCAL BIBLE
This is fabulous! Thank you for giving Brandy her flowers.
Brandy has been for many years the best singer! Wow!!!
i will always remember that brandy doll 🥺 brandy had it all tbh
Take me back to the 90's🥺 but yes brandy was that girl and made her impact in this industry.
Great story on Brandy I am one of her biggest fans and so proud that 30 years later, she is still doing her thing and God is blessing her to keep getting more projects!
Her talent was and is amazing. She had hit after hit in the 90s and her dancing was underrated
Happy Birthday, Brandy! 2/11/79
I'm a huge fan of Brandy, especially Full Moon. This is the first time I'm really taking in what a sensation she was in the 90s. It's amazing to think even after all that success she continued to make hit albums and feature in movies and TV.
That's Right Give Brandy Her Flowers...
That’s right! Put some respect on Brandy’s name!!! She’s a living legend!!! 💯💯💯💯
