    The "perfect pictures all the time" on social media bit is exactly why I dislike Instagram/social media in general. There's all this pressure to be perfect at what you do or you lose followers. I use gouache and watercolour painting as an outlet for my mental health problems. Art is a life-long passion of mine and everyone on my mother's side is an artist in some degree... so that "gene" or "talent" exists for me. My haraboji is a house painter, my mom drew Korean princesses for me to draw, my sister is a fashion designer, and here I am... the watercolour painter. I feel a lot of pressure from that.

      Ah hello friend! I have seen your art and it is absolutely fantastic, but that family pressure to do well (or else) can definitely weigh on you. Thank you for sharing your experience, I actually had no idea you were going through this

    For anyone who is worried about "talent", I think one of the best quotes for this was a quote made by basketball player Kevin Durant during his MVP speech. "Hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard."

    man, i wish someone told me stuff in this video when i struggled. had to figure it out myself, but that way of thinking really is game changing. also talent is not even something 95/100 people have to worry about anyways, yea it helps, but what really matters is the amount of time you put in and your passion

    I drew every single day ever since I held a pen and paper in kindergarten. Nobody told me to do it, I just did it.

    Na-an (only a few seconds into the vdo at the time of this comment)
    I used to be absolutely positively pathetically bad in art when I was younger. As time went on, I just kept at it, stubbornnesses being part of my “genetics” AND my star! And suddenly my art can be comparable to professionals if I want to make it a profession. But I don’t want it to become a profession. It’s my hobby. I use it to take breaks, to challenge my creativity, to relax my overworking brain (I’m a game designer, my brain never WANTS to rest) and, in general, to just have fun. As a bonus, it’s one of the most loved topics I share with my bestie.
    So, from an ungifted, untalented in art person- nope, you DON’T need talent or have to be gifted. You need to be steadfast, stubborn, persevere, have willpower to just make it, and loads of practice. You’ll get there.
    And for all the improvements I’ve done over the years in art, I just can’t tackle colorimg in digital media. My traditional coloring is just fine. I know it has to do with the “usage” of the tools rather than my understanding of color theory.
    And btw, good topic, CM 👍🏼

    It took me two years to get where i am right now in art. Not that good but decent enough to casually draw ocs without hating my drawings. No you dont need talent just free time lol

    Art is not about the skill, skill is achieved with time and practice, it's about the passion. Every artist draws differently but what makes them stand out it's their creativity. There are very good artists that can do hyperrealistic art but they have no creativity and I honestly don't vouch for that, cuz art is also about taking our world and put a new refreshing spin on it, making things that don't exist and such

      That’s a good point. Skill without passion is just soulless, like a product that’s technically “perfect” but not made with love.

    To determine talent look at your inking. I cant ink circles. It sucks everytime. The lines doesnt look straight either with ink and thicker lines just make them look jigsawish

    • @celticmanga
      @celticmanga  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My lines werent always so smooth, it took a ton of practice (and also re-learning how to do it digitally). Skill, not talent 🫡

    • @anul6801
      @anul6801 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@celticmanga thanks for responding. I think my lines have become s little bit better but still awful. Circles dont wanna talk about. Straight thin lines look good with smooth fading entres and exits. But to go over a thin line to make it thicker and cover up mistakes only makes it even worse in my honest opinion.

      You know the entry cuts pattern in to the line ?

    • @celticmanga

      what do you mean? “entry cuts pattern into the line”???

    • @anul6801
      @anul6801 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@celticmanga when you redo a line a second time. For me you can see the cute into the line and it forms a Jigsaw look

    Hello what drawing exercises do you recommend for learning simplify complex 3D structures,by the way your videos are super helpful for keep drawing thanks a lot

    • @celticmanga
      @celticmanga  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Basically, just trace over something and find the underlying 3D form. Don't trace every detail, just the general direction and shape. then after that, draw that same simplified form beside it (without tracing). Ethan Becker's youtube channel has a lot of good stuff on this exact thing you're talking about.

    you dont need talent to make art. YOU DO need talent however if you want to make good art.
