I Picked up this Honda Eu2000i generator pretty cheap, the previous owner said it needed a rebuild. It smokes when it' is started up but on further investigation this seems to be a common issue with these generators. For the time being i'm not too worried about it. I also took apart the carb, set the valve lash and changed oil. I did numerous tests on the Generator to make sure the 12v charge plug works, and also to make sure that both plugs generate power. I didn't put enough oil in it so the oil light also works. All in all I really can't find any issues besides for the fact that it smokes when you first start it and the timing belt needs to be replaced.

Whilst the eco mode keeps it quite I think over time it's not good for the motor also inverter gets hot I run mine with covers off at full speed just my opinion and experience with these generator types great video thank you.

Great vid really helpful. Can I get an idea of how how much Seafoam went in the tank, the oil and directly into the chamber...please. Does it need to be emptied out before the generator is started again? We have one of these and I cant really afford to put it in for a Honda dealer to look at. Its used as the power source to our small mobile business. Thanks so much
I had the same issue rough idle..but if you remove the 3 air filter screws and a black hose..the carburator can be out and is a screw that you have to remove(plastic) under that screw is a " idler jet"valve that need to be unclug that valve pop out(flat screw driver) and is plastic jet with. 2 holes ..one big one and the other need to be clear out..i use w-40 with the red spout on ...it did solve the problem..! 30 min labor..very easy..!
Thats a cool little generator. Its probably loving some amsoil and fresh gas. I got that same fluid evacuator you have for christmas. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but spring is coming and I'm sure I'll be using it to change oils in the lawn equipment and I'll change out the PS fluid and brake fluid in my truck again.

Your mention of chevy 350 , the valve guide seals were the issue , there were a bunch of yrs. they were just not what they should have been .
So on the Honda , it could be just some poor maintenance / infrequent oil changes / cheap oil ?
Hopefully you got this Generator for free. There’s so many of these out there in good shape on the cheap. You can be picky on which ones you buy.

Any update on the smoke ? I have the same condition EU2000 and smokes like you've described. I'm about to replace the valve guide on intake, but maybe i'll try some SeaFoam like you did. Do you think that solved your smoke ? Also, get yourself a 13 oz dish wash soap bottle, use that for oil refill. Holds the perfect amount and makes the refill process a snap. I'd also bet you think it sounds louder because of the conditions you were running it in. The snow will reflect the sound more than typical surroundings.
no update on the smoke I may do a rebuild this winter as I have to do the timing belt but we'll see once i take it apart i'll do a leak down test and see what the condition of the motor is like
I've had mine in the basement for 2 years I should get it running too. I took the spark arrestor off the first day I got it, seen lots of them cause problems getting plugged. Looks like it's an under 100 hours on it.

+jerry bskorner I know my 3000 started getting louder and I had to replace the muffler.
the mufflers are expensive, are you making a trip to Canada and not telling me ?
Yes I was like he should see Calgary before it becomes like mad max. I would love to head to Nashville, that is on hold for the time being because of the economics here

Hi. I borrowed a honda eu30is, and messed it up a bit.
You Seem to know your Way around engines, Wich I certainly dont.
It Got Tilted in transportation and leaked a fair bit of Oil. Not sure why it leaked...
Afterwards it wouldnt start. I added new Oil (maybe too little) and that didnt help.
Do you have any suggestions on What to do (other than adding sufficient oil)?
I wouldnt like to return it in worse shape, than it was.

Hi, I clean the carburetor with carb cleaner, and add a littler gas on the carb. it will start for few second and died. Do you think is the fuel line. Tks Richard

My Honda eu2000 smokes the whole time, the plug gets really oil fouled, so im thinking the rings are bad.
Do you have a video or planning to do one on how to replace the rings, if not please do one on ring replacement.

Those little Honda Generators are awesome. What did you pick it for again? Thats perfect for camping running a heater and your Cpap machine. Also hopefully you post a video on the timing belt replacement when the time comes. MFBT!

+jerry bskorner If you were worried about the environment you would set up a huge solar panel array and run off of an inverter at night sir ..... hahaha
solar is good for some things, but the amount of panels you'd need to recharge a battery would be a larger footprint than my campsite

that's true however, one must investigate as I did too think it was a bit loud however from watching other videos. It does appear that is the way it sounds
How did you get the eco to run smoothly please.
I'm going through a rough time with eu2000i when it runs the green light is not glowing, but makes power. when eco switch is in the on position, no change in idle, just runs high. This was not purchased by me new so don't have any idea what is been worked on. Any ideas?
Inverter problem, because both of those issues are wired separately, or very unlikely but worth checking to see if those two smaller wire harness behind inverter are actually connected, the big one is for your power, that goes from stator to inverter,
1 small harness behind inverter is for lights other small harness behind inverter is for your throttle motor/ eco
I have eu2000i and it ran for about 2 to 3 hours and it died out and when I noticed I checked my all that had gas in the oil what is wrong with it let me know please Cajun land Church Point Louisiana

It did not blink when you started it, did it have less then a hundred hours on it?
My Output indicator light will not turn on

Yes, the idle circuit in the carb is dirty or plugged. Clean the carb.
Our Honda dealer told us 1/3 of the i2000's sold are lemons.
That's not true. I've had numerous eu2000is and I've never had a lemon. Usually its user error . Not hondas fault.
