      @@74weld Once people see these on the trail, sales will ramp. I'll have to save quite a while to afford at 20k. 100% understand current pricing, IMHO it's a good price for what they do. Appreciate the nuances of this design, such as limiting the lift so that it just allows appropriate larger tires and ground clearance. Hopefully economies of scale allow pricing to come down.
      Questions:
      How does the added width affect handling, lean & ride quality?
      What is an optimum shock spring setup to bring out the best of these portals? (NC trails mostly)
      When can I see some of these on a GX? Would love for reputable TH-camrs to be able to test these for a few weeks to help get the word out.

    Why do you need to change oil SO frequently? nobody change oil in regular transmittion in 3-5k miles . Why is this thing so different ?

    • @74weld
      @74weld  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oil is cheap insurance. It’s easy to do and will ensure long life. We have run them up to 10,000miles but keep in mind you don’t have much volume in these (10oz) at full retail it costs you to 10 bucks to change the oil. It’s just a good thing to do

    @ 16:45 That bearing pressed onto the plate is a stupid idea, I can take it off with my knowledge no worries, but you should've added a spigot ledge at the back side for removal so you can get the puller under (cow's c..t).
    To the arm chair warrior brigade, yes I can remove the bearing for replacement and no I won't tell you how as it's industry secretes, but it would be far easier if it was made to use common tooling.

    For Bronco, does your portal package address the current rear axle tube issue that would be amplified by the portal box - i.e. axle truss or other torque solution?? Looks like a solid product!! Also, any deals for packaging with the steering rack?

    • @74weld
      @74weld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We won’t address the axle tube issue. I had a conversation with spicer about this a few months ago. They will be selling their cast iron tube very soon. You can also just buy the HD front diff and be done

    • @travischapman6179
      @travischapman6179 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@74weld We’re talking about the rear axle issue, right? - the tubes breaking the spot weld and spinning the diff housing. Will there be a truss or something to counter this? Seems portals would exacerbate this?

    So, why not helical cut gears for stronger teeth, greater contact patch and quieter operation? Is this purely for race applications?
    Edit: Slightly covered at 20:00

    • @74weld
      @74weld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really has nothing to do with gears and everything to do with bearings. There are also lots of other complications with helical, but the main issue is bearing packaging and specs due to thrust. It also generates a lot more heat than the straight cut

    • @databeestje
      @databeestje ปีที่แล้ว

      @@74weld Indeed, the losses are less too. Probably not the space for a crush washer/bearing or a conical. The gear whine might be tolerable considering they are effectively running close to wheel speed (except for the idlers). I just immediately think of 1st and reverse in my manual and the whine associated with that.
      Considering this isn't intended for a highway application, and the likely noise from aggresive thread tires it's probably a wash.

      Honestly can't what for more people to get these and the competition so we can see what really works and what doesn't. Comparing noise means nothing when one wieghts 50lb more but is quiet. I also want to see how the others mount I believe the 47welds ifs set up is the way to go. But if they say there's can beat this then let's see it.

    Ok ? I might just not be thinking clearly. If it re-gears a Tacoma to run a 36-37 if some one ran a 40” would it scale the same as if the truck went from say 30 to a 33 or 33.5 with no gear reduction?

    • @jamescrud
      @jamescrud ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be very close. Just divide the larger tire dia by the starting tire diameter to get the ratio. 40/37=1.08 and 33.5/30=1.16.

      We convert a semi float to a full float. Our portal bolts to the semi float flange and the portal carries the weight turning the rear into a full float
