That's amazing. I wonder why our government doesn't help by funding more plants like yours it's an investment in our future.

They do. Companies like this pitch this rosy vision of their proposed service, get the funding, and then cut the "unnecessary costs" That means picking out the valuable metals with a magnetic belt and then an eddy current separator, and then landfill the rest. Paying people to sort trash is so unprofitable that China doesn't even do it without international subsidies, and even then, they use slave labor and mostly waste all the recyclables. If digging through your garbage was valuable, rest assured, someone would do it. Like most public services, however, your ignorance of the industry is far more valuable than your garbage.

This tech would be great if it was open source and all waste facilities were retrofitted to have it.

It's not even pattentable, since it's so incredibly old that it has been marketed to unwitting dupes generation after generation for those all-important petitions and political ribbon-cutting ceremonies. This "Mr Murph" is just a rebranding of the infamous WM. They have operated a horrible tax coffer bilking operation, wretched customer service, and continuous failure to perform any of these enhanced services for generations. Taking the money, separating the stuff that can be sold for quick profit, and burying the rest, while refusing acceptance of many residential waste streams until public outcry forces more concession money into their profit margin, has worked flawlessly and without consequence (to them) for so long, because garbage and sewers are things that people don't want to think about or touch, and are therefore ideal for arm-twisting people for cash for the privilege of not having to think about it. Producing this cartoon marketing crap and infiltrating your schools and childrens' entertainment is part of the conditioning that keeps the racquet printing unlimited money generation after generation, so there will never be solutions or improvements as long as that is the business model.
