    Do you know every year, humans dump more than 80 million tons of plastic into the ocean. This pollution is not only destroying marine life but also poses a serious and deadly threat to the entire ecosystem. To heal the Earth again some people dedicated their life to build new modern technology that could repair the destruction. We love what Team Seas are doing also with THIS ROBOT EATS TRASH.
    4ocean is currently celebrating their 10 millionth pound of rubbish collected recently, so we thought we would explore and educate you on their mission to save the planet. We will also witness other fantastic innovative methods that are revolutionizing entire industries.

  • @anna-lenameijer9942
    @anna-lenameijer9942 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    It all started with Boyan Slat: he went scuba diving and found more trash underneath the surface than above it. So he invented the ocean nets that catch plastic and debris with the help of the currents. The solar driven flood boats are his invention too. But if we are to succeed, we need to sort everything AT HOME, as sorting is almost impossible later in the chain. I only have very little garbage that goes to burning; everything else is recycled/composted.

    • @scottmackenzie-low8366
      @scottmackenzie-low8366 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If we are to succeed, we'll need compostable bioplastics to make single use petroplastics obsolete.
      A newer technology called "chemical recycling" will allow us to recycle a wider spectrum of plastics, including plastics that have been 'contaminated'. But the industry is still in its infancy, and the methodology has yet to work commercially.
      And since you mentioned burning garbage, I should also note that chemical recycling allow us to not only turn plastics back into plastics, it can even turn plastics into fuel, which supposedly burns cleaner than traditional gasoline.
      At home sorting is great, but way better when your tapped into the precious plastic network, and have a local shop collect, shred, and mold your plastics into useful items.

      That's called chemical recycling. Which is getting some serious traction.
      In my opinion, we do need more chemical recycling facilities to reuse the 8.3 billion tons of petroleum based plastic that we've created since the 1950's, but we also need to invest in compostable bioplastic infrastructure, so we can transition all of our single use plastic, into nontoxic alternatives.
      Making new 'virgin' plastic out of fossil fuels needs to be phased out as soon as possible.

      research into chems that can attach to nano particles shows some filtering possibilities..... if not stopped.. we are in trouble...
      micro and nano plastics come from synthread.. washing clothes dumps synthread particles into the sewers and eventually the ocean..
      i read huge amounts of nano plastic particles are in the air.. the article stated tons of nsnos ... i need more verification... but if true ... you could be breathing particles that could still be emitting chems that we're mixed with the plastic at manufacture....

      @Anita M You realize how little of recyclable material is actually recycled? According to the EPA, of the 267.8 million tons of municipal solid waste generated by Americans in 2017, only 94.2 million tons were recycled or composted. Sixty-six percent of discarded paper and cardboard was recycled, 27 percent of glass, and 8 percent of plastics were recycled. It's enough to make you scream. That's why I said I wonder how they'll dispose of it, because they certainly aren't recycling it aside for a small percentage.

      Plus it just creates a plastic doom loop, where does the plastic end up? Either in landfill leeching toxins into the environment or recycled back into more plastic junk that ends up in the rivers and oceans. The only way to stop plastic destroying our environment, rivers and oceans is to ban it outright.
