Wear your safety glasses, or you'll shoot your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time out to make this video. My Honda lawnmower was in storage for 5 years and obviously it wouldn't start. I had spark and I found the engine would run because I had squirted some carb cleaner in the carb throat and did 2 pulls and it started and ran for like 3-4 seconds. Only thing left was fuel. Your video showed me how to drain the gas, remove the float bowl, clean out the jet with some wire, and shoot some carb cleaner up the jet. After re-assembling back together and putting fresh gas in the tank, 2 pulls and the engine started. Warmed it up, stopped it, and restarted it ... and it did, so, t h a n k y o u a g a i n. You have a new subscriber. Oh, and no surging, thank goodness. :)
Yay! I'm happy to help. Appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Thanks!
Super Thanks to you for supporting my channel. Cheers!
Epic Stella - if everyone would follow this we would not have much work. And as always, good angle, zoom and sound. Cheers!
Many thanks Anders!
Glad to see you again! 👍
Cheers Rein!
Nice job Ms Stella!! I've been harping Tri Flow for years! Pricey, but that stuff works where others don't.
I agree, it's expensive, but a small can lasts several years for me. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Changed my oil!! And boy did it need it! You are WONDERFUL!
Yay, thank you!
Nice to see you on the tube again. I've missed the last few Saturday live streams. Lot of good tips. Typical Honda cold start with surging. Most times, as in your case, it goes away. But as you said, if it doesn't it's carb tear down time and don't forget that primary jet! Thanks Stella!
Cheers Mr Jim! I do appreciate you watching.
Great job as usual, Stella.
Thank you! Cheers!
Welcome Back abd Haooy New Year!!! Hope you are well also!! Terrific list of things to check and do to preparre your mower for Spring. Thank you so much for your sharing!!
God Bless...😀
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Great job Miss Stella, you’ve explained the process very well 👏
Thank you! 😊
You're like the Bob Ross of lawnmowers, lol.
Haha!
Thanks for this video. Got my mower going again. The guitar E string probe was a great tip!
Glad it helped!
Really nice tips and tricks - thanks Stella 👍👍👍
Cheers Claus! OEM air filter just for you. 😘
Great vid as always Stella.
You're the best Phil ! Cheers!
Glad you made this video on this matter of getting the Honda engine to start up
I appreciate you watching!
@@TheLawnmowerLady you are welcome young lady 💐🌹
👍👍👍.Thank you Stella
You're welcome 😊
Good video Stella thank you
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Great video. I like the way you cut the oil jug to easily catch the oil when you first tip the lawnmower on it side to drain it.
Thanks! Makes it easy to transfer the oil to a larger container for recycling. The only time that jug is a problem is if the mower is overfilled.
Great tips Stella, well filmed and edited as always :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Thanks lawnmower lady!
You are so welcome!
Very nice video Stella and it was nice chatting with you at Ken’s stream on Saturday. Also, did a video of my new ultrasonic cleaner on my channel. I ve done a few Hondas that the fuel in the bowl literally looked and smelled like cat pee. I’ve actually had to pull and clean those in that state. Hope to see you Saturday at Ken’s. Cheers, be safe and God bless.
Cheers Brett! I love my ultrasonic cleaner. I appreciate you watching!
You made this look simple. Hope I can get mine started. My rope pull is super tight too and almost cannot pull it at all if blades not engaged.
Hmmm. Something doesn't sound right with that. Does your machine have the blade clutch?
@@TheLawnmowerLady , no, it seems pretty basic but is an HRC216 commercial mower. I had it at the shop few weeks ago and seemed like it was cranking okay. Didn’t use it for two weeks maybe.
I turned it over and moved the blades by hand but it was stiff.
@@crazy-eyedreseller Moving the blades with the spark plug installed is difficult, as well as the brake pad on the flywheel if the blade brake handle is not pulled in.
Another great video 📹 from the lawnmower lady 😎
Thanks John 👍
@@TheLawnmowerLady your welcome stella 😎
Great tips Stella as always! 👍🎥🇺🇸
Cheers Roger!
Good video.. some fantastic information
Cheers Sir Mick! Thanks for watching!
Nice tip with the blade being used to gap the plug keep them coming and see you at 2pm EST on the live stream.
You bet Mr Wayne! Necessity is the mother of invention. I came up with that Stanley knife trick somewhere hear Hope, BC on the side of the road. Fouled my plug and dropped my spare plug on the pavement, and that's what I had in my pocket, LOL.
Great advice geared towards the novice mower owner, Stella.
Definitely do the lube tips at the end. Lubing the wheels will make the mower much easier to push if it doesn’t have self-propel.
Unmentioned additional shop tip - double duty step ladder also acting as spring clamp storage! 🔧😁👍
Cheers Rein!
Stella you got your groove back😊,hope all is well love you sweetheart!
Cheers Bob! I appreciate you watching.
Nice job Stella 👏 hope people watch this video it will save them a lot of money 💰 and not in the workshop 👍
I hope so too, Mark. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Nice video Stella, you covered the bases well. 👍
Lube Lube Lube!!! 🤣
😹A little goes a long way! Thanks for watching!
🤣😇
Nice job as always Miss Stella. The video u recommend at the end on Honda carburetors is about sharpening blades not carburetors. Just letting u know !! Keep the videos coming mate. Love ‘em
Nice catch! I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
@TheLawnmowerLady yeah it's my pleasure watching your videos. So detailed, informative, entertaining, complete etc. Glad to help when I can. Ìt wasn't no big deal
People don’t realize that these mowers are set up to run rich at the factory. Even after first couple uses, look at the spark plug color and you’ll see what I mean. They assume everyone will run them during hot weather, so they don’t start very well when it’s colder temperatures outside. I don’t know if the carburetor richness can be adjusted on these.
This particular carb does have a mix adjustment screw, but it is limited with a restrictive cap, that easily wrecks the adjuster when removed. It moves less than 1/8 turn, and it's near about impossible to adjust while the machine running. It's buried deep behind the airbox. Thanks for watching!
Been a while but nice to see you back up with some really good tips for the DIYer. Love the plug gapper tip with the blade and thought you were pulling a Bruce at the end with the spark plug eh?
Cheers Wayne! I pull a Bruce pretty often LOL! 😹
Hej Claus godt arbejde med den Honda

Very sweet of you! Happy Valentine's to you too! 💖💖💖
Run ethanol free gas if you can get it your town you don’t need to clean the carburetor in the spring it will start with no problem
I agree 100%
Good video Stella I have a neighbors HR216 that is surging I have cleaned the carb once and still surging so I'M thinking I need to take it off and clean it again if that don't fix it I'M stumped. lol
Cheers Bob! I think cleaning it again won't hurt. Maybe a gasket is not sealing up? Thanks for watching!
Just what I needed will all this work on my Honda izy??
Almost identical machine. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Stella you look beautiful. Silicone spray. Get you a can. It works good on Boots. And rubber. 👍
when adding the oil I would just tip the mover the other way so opening is up.
That can allow oil to come back out the breather tube and saturate your new air filter.
Hello, Love your video's. They are very informative. I have a Honda mower HRR2169VYA which has an automatic choke. It starts and runs fine, but when it warms up and the choke is off it dies when you engage the blades. While the choke is still on the blades engage fine and the engine runs fine. But when the choke comes off the engine stalls when the blades are engaged. I have cleaned the carb, changed the plug, replaced the fuel, checked the gas cap, but I cant figure out why it stalls when its warm. HELP !
I had a similar issue with my HR215 after about 8-10 years. I adjusted the cables to basically make the engagement earlier. Increasing the RPM didn't hurt either. Over time springs and cables stretch. Follow the governor arm return spring to it's termination point. Bend the bracket just a bit to put more pressure on the spring. Hope this helps.
Found your channel on a taryl fixes all live stream today.
I asked about a Honda string trimmer drive shaft and you replied to my question.
I tried to reply back but found no option.
Very frustrating because i have done it before.
I'm on a iphone and been on the internet since 1994 argh! Ha.
Anyway i will check out some of your videos.
Thanks for stopping by. I know mobile devices can be a PITA. Cheers!
Enjoy your vid's. Especially the ones concerning the Honda engines as I have a Husqvarna HU 700u with a GCV160 engine. My question is about ethanol free gas. I live in the DFW area and have found ethanol free gas at several stations in the area. What octane rating should I use; 87, 90 or 92? I also have a Craftsman WS2200 2 cyl string trimmer. I wouldn't think that my Husqvarna wouldn't need a lot of octane, but what about the string trimmer?
My honest opinion is go for the 90 (the ethanol free I use is 89). Adding oil will drop the octane a small amount, but likely not 3 points. Using any higher octane is probably a waste of $$$. Higher octane is good for high compression engines to keep from burning a hole in your piston. That said, the premium canned fuels (Stihl Motomix® and Aspen) all are based on high octane (92-93) fuel. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
I like the wine bottle!
I'm a big fan of recycling. LOL! Thanks for watching.
are there any pockets of new honda mowers out there for sale that you might share for those that might be interested? i have already checked, but was hoping with your sourses you might be able to help. thanks lawnmower lady, really enjoy your videos and your small engine knowledge.
In all honesty, I would be searching FB marketplace, craigslist, etc., for a gently used HRX from a few years ago with the GCV160 engine NOT the 170 engine. Far better machine than the last ones they made. IMO they cut way too many corners on the last machines they made, specifically the HRN series. I did a review of sorts here ( with an emphasis on those changes): th-cam.com/video/QnYEtnGgiXc/w-d-xo.html I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
thanks, you are the best@@TheLawnmowerLady
a LML Video? I thought you gave up?? How;s the hand? I just got in an MS-170, need advice!
Ask the question. I restored and flipped a freebie 180C last year, taking a 170 as partial trade in. Great machines.
@@Rein_Ciarfella just playing with my friend Stella, it’s an inside joke!
My best advice is wear gloves! 😹
If you don’t want to clean the carburetor Ran it out of fuel and drain the carburetor bod Than it should start in the spring
That works too.
What do you do with the old fuel and oil?
I make a couple of trips a year to the hazardous waste recycling center.
First time lawn mower buyer! What would you recommend? I’m not sure if I should get Toro or Honda 21 in. 3-in-1 Variable Speed Gas Walk Behind Self-Propelled Lawn Mower with Auto Choke. What do you think is better? I’m scared of getting a bad one
Nothing on the market today is any match for a machine made 10 years ago. If I were looking for a "new" mower, I would be searching out a nice used Honda HRX217 with the older GCV190 engine. NOT the newer GCV200 engine. There are many of them out there on FBmarketplace and craigslist. The best ones are have the "roto-stop" blade clutch. Basically you are starting the engine (very easily) as you are not trying to turn over the engine with the added inertia of the blade spinning. I made a video about the latest Honda mowers: th-cam.com/video/QnYEtnGgiXc/w-d-xo.html Way too much cost cutting IMO
@@TheLawnmowerLady I see, thank you so much. I’m going to do just that because I was cared to buy a new one and get a lemon lol but okay I’m going to go look now
How do you dispose of the old gasoline?
After I use the old fuel for a few cleanings, and collect a few gallons, I take it to my county run multi-purpose waste collection. They take all kinds of hazardous waste. I go there about once a year.
11:07 looks like a kidney problem or dehydration
I know. Right? LOL.
That's crappy fuel
