    Here is a a tip that will resolve 90% of the common small engine users' problems... Install a stop valve in the fuel line and run your engine after each use until it just dies, which sucks all of the fuel out of the carburetor... this keeps the carburetor relatively clean which is the problem with 90% of common users. Why every small engine device doesn't include this feature, I don't know... but it's a life saver!!

      bro screw my life, I decided to be a total idiot today and I tried mixing cooking oil with my gas because I heard online that it would work after like running the lawnmower for like 30 seconds the engine died off. I spent so much time with a spray bottle spraying gas directly into the butterfly valves of the air intake to prime my mower, and I kept wondering why the mower wouldn’t continue without the gas from the spray bottle thing directly put into it then I realize that I had turned valve off earlier and I spent all this time like an idiot. So i siphoned all the gas from the tank and burnt off the oil and I put proper gas now the motor works perfectly now😭 due to this comment I remembered that i turned the stop valve earlier now the mower runs again!!!
      ps: never try to out cooking oil in your lawn mower, it won’t run well

    IT WORKED, PASSING THIN WIRE THROUGH THE HOLE ABOVE THE FLOAT OF THE CARB. Started right up. Took me 20 min to screw that brass nut back into bottom of carb, though, as I worried I'd strip the thin threads. Oiling the old threads helped and finally it went in.
    My 10 year + mower might have gone to the garbage dump but is now back in service.

      I wish I could share a picture. I recently pulled my dad's motgomery wards mower he bought brand new in 1986 from wards out of the back corner of the she'd where it has sat untouched since 1998. After some work it's now running strong & I cleaned it up very nice & put a new blade on it & it's been fun & touching using my dad's mower & proud to still own it. He passed away unexpected at 48 in my arms at home in December of 1998. Reviving & using this mower on occasions has been Therapeutic to say the leased. I love & miss you so much dad.

    Bro you’re the GOAT…was literally looking at new lawnmowers and as a last gasp checked this video out. Did exactly what you said (lawnmower was close enough to yours) and now it’s purring like a kitten. Even if it doesn’t last, can get me through the season! Thank you!

      You're welcome - I'm glad I could help! The fix may not last, but I filmed this 3 years ago, and I am still running the same mower. I have to do this trick twice a year, but it keeps me from buying a new one, too!

      @@RoadReality For sure, my yard is super small so I don’t need much and this worked great. Also had a gold bolt in the middle of the float cup with little holes (might be the jet? I’m a layman lol) so gave those a poke to.

      @@halphpint7400 Yep, same here - small yard, don't need to be buying mowers LOL. That gold bolt I think IS the jet... but I am not a mechanic either, I just picked up this tip from a buddy and wanted to remember it, so I recorded the video. :D

    Awesome video! I had pulled everything apart, cleaned the carburetor, changed spark plugs, changed the oil/fuel, checked the fuel lines....everything but your key point to run a wire-tie wire through the needle valve. I was about to take it to a repair shop but saw your video, gave the needle valve step a try and it started like a champ on the 2nd pull! THANK YOU!!

    Briggs carbs on old mowers are so easy to fix once you watch a good carb clean video done by a good mower mechanic..theres actually several pin sized holes in these type of carbs that need to be clear for carb to work properly. Best to fix gas cap to stop your issue with dirt entering the tank and clean dirt from tank...you can also add a fuel filter...

    Ty for sharing. Steve's small engine saloon teaches this same principle! But, heachad a customer that kept coming back with thie very same issue about 3 or 4 times, and he came up with an additional step to fix it for good hopefully especially if using the correct gas in your lawn mower and treatment to. I forget what the tools are called that he uses, but if you check out his play list you can find it and that will keep you from having to keep taking it apart so much! 😊

    I bought this mower for 20 dollars just have something to mess around with. Owner said it wouldn't start. Originally I thought it would be the plastic carburetor with the white plastic jet. I really don't want to take this carburetor off with all of these springs. I already sprayed everywhere I could but I think I'm going to try your clean the middle jet trick. I emptied the gas and sprayed around in the tank. I'm trying to watch some videos because I have a spacer or something that came off and I can't find where it goes. Thanks for the tip. I ordered a recoil so I can't put it all the way back together anyway. This recoil won't pull the handle all the way to the unit. I have to see how to remove those rivets and how to bolt the new one down. Guess that's what I get for taking on a mystery project. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️😁 Thanks for the video

    Interesting. When I last bought a mower a friend suggested Toro and only use non ethanol gas. That has worked for me 7 years now. I run the mower till it runs out of gas for the end of season. I try to only buy enough gas for a month or less of mowing. I'm not sure if I have the same style jet as yours but will remember this if needed. Thanks.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that method is certainly the way to go, if feasible. Keeping stabilizer in the gas can all year round and doing this trick in the spring keeps my mower running just fine - the rest of my gas-powered tools work no matter how long they sit.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not a dumb question! The carb cleaner gets sprayed into the carb when the air filter is off, just a quick squirt. The Seafoam gets 2oz or so poured into the gas tank. The directions for how much are on the can, in case you forget.

    Well here’s another tip - the primer plunger - to the side of that there is a hole with a bearing in it ( tiny), mine has fallen out took me ages to figure out why it kept running and stoping - it prevented the “vacuum” needed to pull the fuel - that needs to be plugged to allow the plunger to pull the petrol from the tank and also to keep it running ….. who knew 😂

    Have you considered putting in a fuel line filter

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I could - but honestly, doing this once a season works - and at this point there shouldn't be anything but fuel getting into the system, since my cans are all clean and it's been many many tanks of fuel run through this mower since I filmed it.

    Did all of this, cleaned the line that runs to the carb from the tank too... still nothing. Runs when I spray starter fluid in it... new spark plug too. what else could be blocking fuel?

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd guess your carb is really plugged with gunk, and fuel can't flow through. It could also be the float. I'd suggest a new carb or carb rebuild at this point. Good luck!

    • @EkulGgats
      @EkulGgats 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RoadReality I did clean the float out. There's a line that connects to the bottom of the plastic intake housing too, havent checked that. Also maybe the idle needs to be adjusted? What you think.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EkulGgats Yeah, if there's another line, make sure it's cleaned out. It might be a vacuum line that needs to be clear for the fuel to flow.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @RoadReality

    And thanks to the gunked fuel in the tank and hose, you’ll have to repeat in ten minutes.
    Flush the old fuel (may use it in your fuel-injected car with 2-3 filters in the fuel system), clean the fuel line, get some fresh premium fuel. Otherwise it seems to be ok.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are good added techniques to prevent it ... I just haven't had to. This "fix" lasts for a whole season [I blame a poorly-designed fuel system] before I have to do it again.
