To be fair, Chelsea was a pretty defensive team that rarely concede shots and he rarely has to make any saves in a game. As opposed to de gea who had to constantly makes save after save since utd's defense is sub par. This is only based on watching utd and chelsea on recent times tho so statistically I could be wrong.

Bosingwa was the best right back. He had some outstanding seasons under Ancelotti. People only remember his last couple of years when he seemed to completely lose it.
There are a lot of RBs who were very good, but maybe only for a couple seasons, where most of their career were pretty average. Like what ZolaMagic25 said, Bosingwa was incredible for a couple years. Also, Glen Johnson was absolutely amazing for a few years at Portsmouth and Liverpool, and was probably one of the world's best right backs at the time, though people don't seem to remember it. Lauren was almost the perfect right back in terms of his all-round ability. Steve Finnan was in the PFA TOTY 3 years in a row for Fulham, and that's before he won the Champions League with Liverpool. Stephen Carr somehow managed to get into TOTY twice whilst at an average Spurs, ahead of G.Neville in his prime years winning titles with Utd.
But there was a time where Ivanovic was not only solid defensively at RB, but getting double figures in both goals and assists, so for that period alone, it has to be him.
With his fat arse that made him slow. No thanks

Bergkamp is a passing God. Shearer mastered positional play and getting in the best positions.
Bergkamp made Ian Wright and Thierry Henry 10x better, because if they made the run, they knew Bergkamk would make the pass.

@Luke Dunford Asking Gerrard in his prime to play defensively was like asking Shearer to play in goal. It wasn't his fault at all, you could say the exact same about Lampard. Blame the manager for picking 2 extremely attacking based centre mids.
@Luke Dunford In his prime Gerrard was the 3rd best player on the planet. Hence the reason he won third place at the Ballon D'or. De Bruyne is brilliant but right now, there's no comparison to be made. 2 totally different players playing in totally different systems. Gerrard proved he could defend in his late career, but at Liverpool he was played as an out and out attacking midfielder, usually on the right wing. When he was moved to the middle, then he was used as more of a number 10, it's not his fault the England boss decided he wanted go play him in the wrong position.

These teams are always difficult to make. European football has the biggest talent pool of any sport, and there are always elite world class players coming through the ranks.
It is damn near impossible making these teams without stipulations such as era, years active and etc.

If you have two top goal scorers up front you don’t need Lampard, who was a budget striker with a midfielders number on his back who thrived alongside a single striker. Just go with midfielders that actually played like midfielders ie could attack AND defend. Gerrard and Viera! Done ✅

Shearer is a bit dated and wouldn’t survive today, or do what Suarez/Ronaldo did but it’s an interesting one as you’d have to pick a team based on their era.

Andrew Vance Gerrard couldn’t defend at the top level. That’s why he played up top with Torres at his peak (second striker)
Ali Riaz he played with Torres in 08/09 ish. His peak was 05-10 and he played those first few years in a proper CM position where he defended as much as he attacked. He even played right back against the beat team in the world (Milan) during the 05 CL final for a short time against Kaka, Schevchenko etc and was great there as well. He stared as a defending CM until we realised how good he was forward. He was defending CM and played brilliantly (and scored a great goal) when England beat Germany 5-1!!
But you do raise a good point, that even when he was moved forward (slightly out of position) as a second striker, he was STILL voted the best player in the Prem!! 😀😀
