Everyone Loves Cheap Chinese Trash RC Cars…

  • The last few months I have noticed an increase in comments from people saying all I ever review is cheap Chinese trash RC Cars.
On my channel I like to do a variety of different videos ranging from cheap/budget RC cars all the way to the more expensive mid/high end RC cars.
Budget RC cars are almost always more popular on my channel so I like to prioritise what the viewers want but some people have been questioning why I even bother with these RC cars and why I allegedly try to push them on to people.
Hopefully Todays video clears a few things up. I know most of my subscribers know how I role on my channel but newcomers may find the constant posting of cheaper end RC cars slightly strange so I wanted to clarify.
As always feel free to drop your thoughts/opinions on this in the comments down below!
See you on the next one!

*Comment taken from my last video and an example of the reason why i needed to do this video:*
All these little cars just don't "drive" and handle well, are you trying to be cheap to put out vidios or are we gonna get real cars to look at,if this a kids or beginner channel, we'll then by @brianlangford7278. This is a classic example of *Extreme stupidity* at its finest :)
What do you make of the 'Cheap Chinese Trash' RC cars! Do they have a place in the hobby?, are they a better beginner option compared to something from a 'Big Brand'? Let me know your thoughts and opinions :)

My most expensive rc was a rtr kit called a acme raptor but I have alot of cheaper rc's. My collection consists of ftx zorro, ftx ravine, brushless ftx tracer with the oil shocks witch i think its a brilliant truck for its size. I have the udi rc/sg brushless mini pick up and a couple of crawlers for people like myself i find the budget rc's just as much fun as the slightly more expensive ones. End of the day it doesnt matter about the price as long you enjoying the hobby thats all that matters. My little 10 year has a brushed tracer and a maverick ion monster truck he loves both of them .

      2 things.
If someone wanted to check a review of an indie rc on amazon or aliexpress, then theyll see it has a review on it.
Also and moreso, if no one reviewed the budget rcs (free sent rc) then we will never have competitors to the big brands (to which then they stagnate in innovate) and thus the hobby suffers as a whole.
Rlaarlo/Mjx i.e. was once a Very budget brand only doing rc less than $100 usd, now they Actually.... Pressure the top companies.

After tinkering on it for quite a while, I finally resold it and purchased the real monster, an Arrma Mojave EXB. Chinese cars are great for beginners who's not determined to invest too much on this hobby yet, but I have to admit that they're not good enough as cars from some big brands like Arrma and Traxxas.

I disagree with the negative comments, it's most likely from people who are just negative or hating just to try and make other peoples lives equally as miserable as their own. But unfortunately you will find those people in all types of hobbies, hating on one motorcycle brand over another, or one car manufacturer over another.
I think you do a great job and have enjoyed your channel for a long time now. I agree that the budget RCs are a need and for me it wasn't directly what got me into the hobby, but it is what has kept me in it. I also enjoy growing the collection and tinkering/upgrading them but am still on a limited budget.
My biggest love of the budget RCs is so that I can buy 2 or 3 once I know they will perform decently (due to reviewers like yourself, and others) and now I have some to lend to friends. They can come out with me, go for a crawl, or rip around and bash, or race, and they get to try it out a few times before spending some money on their own RC.
Keep up the good work, and try not to let the negative/privileged messages dig too deep. I know that's easier said than done.

The big brands have lots of info on them but a lot of the time the cheap stuff you review I haven't even heard of, so it's great when you do the reviews because it intro's me to lots of cars I may never of known were available and if I should check them out or not. This always makes me laugh because I used to be a Traxxas fanboy then I became an Arrma fanboy and I’ve got several Traxxas and I have a lot of Arrma’s and then I realized that it takes just as long to get parts for either of those 2 brands then it takes to get any MJX or Rlaarlo parts because most of the time the bigger name brand parts are out of stock so you have to wait for them to come in and for them to ship it to you and the funny thing is that those parts are coming from china so it takes just as long for Traxxas or Arrma to get and then they got to ship it to you. On top of that I can buy 4 sometimes 5 of MJX’s or Rlaarlo’s for the price of just 1 big brand RCs and if 1 MJXs or Rlaarlo’s break you can pull out another one and run that one (because they’re smaller so you can take 3 with you at the same time) in the meantime while waiting for the parts on the one you broke plus if you have a friend with you they can run another one of yours also. Then the other benefit is they don’t take up that much space in your house or apartment. Plus when you look at the games these companies play with us like Traxxas and their pathetic releases like the brushless Jato garbage that has no adjustments and goes somewhere in the 20+ mph and their complete FAIL Mini Maxx which was a complete hot smelly garbage and then you had Arrma with the “Grom Garbage” that got everyone going out and buying an RC that went 20mph only to release a brushless version a couple of months later? Yeah both of these companies played everyone for fools but you still have people that are so so blinded by their obsession over these companies that they make all kinds of excuses for these companies and I’m like,” People Wake Up Already!” They played everyone! Instead of continuously backing them up let’s stop supporting that nonsense and lack of respect for us customers instead of playing games with our money? For this reason I fell back from purchasing anything from either company and then Traxxas with their prices? Come on , enough is enough already. To top it all off MJX and Rlaarlo come “Out The Box” being able to use 2-3s and “Out The Box” clocking speeds 45+ to 50 mph? Traxxas and Arrma you need to do better at a reasonable price and stop playing games with our money!!!

    • @beyondRC

couldn't agree more. They are just greedy. The Groms could have been brushless to begin with and at the same price of the brushed versions to compete directly with the cheap brands and pretty much render them pointless as everyone would favour the 'big brand' for parts etc. But no greed kicks in and what we got was slow, boring cars for the same money as a brushless cheaper brand car which is faster and nicer to drive. Shame.

I wanna appreciate the diversity of your uploads not everyone can't afford the latest Traxxas, Arrma or Losi. And like you said, I don't know too many high-end RC companies that are homegrown and not made and shipped from China. The open free market with budget RC's pushes the bigger names to actually try and produce quality. Eventually, they will feel the pain when RC enthusiast go with the better less expensive platforms. I have been on the hobby for 41 years, owned a hobby shop, and raced consistently 20 plus years. Back when I started there was not many options. You had Tyco, Radio Shack, and Tamiya. Love watch your videos and getting a good feeling of what to expect when and if I purchase a vehicle you have featured. Not interested in seeing 20 plus people mod and jump a mini Maxx 30 feet and break it. Just love your good honest reviews! Keep up your incredible job and thank you for what you do!

Much appreciated. That formula of skatepark it, break it, moan about it, upgrade it, make it brushless, repeat. Is certainly getting boring for a lot of people. Just trying to keep it real over here and show products for what they are and how most will intend to use them. I dont know anyone in real life in any of my groups that go anywhere near skateparks. I dont care what other channels do or how silly they are making themselves look these days with the skatepark vids. Glad i chose to go against that stuff in the interest of showing people especially the younger generation that RC cars arent intended for skateparks and you can have fun without all that stuff. I recently purchased an HB Toys R1001 "Beluga" chinese Bronco style 1/10 rock crawler. It came with a battery and charger and is compatible with a lot of TRX4 parts. It is compatible with most TRX4 parts, thankfully so I don't have to wait a ton of time for replacements. But since I paid $139 for this, I got an amazing value in comparison to a $500 TRX4 Bronco that I also have to shell out for an expensive Traxxas charger and battery as well, and Traxxas sells the lights for another $100, while my R1001 came with a light kit included. Then I could get another HB crawler that is almost as capable instead of shelling out a full car payment for plastic. Keep reviewing these cars and trucks, I need to know because I like to buy extras for my friends!

I'm with you on this, Ricky. We all have to start somewhere, and these "cheaper" Chinese cars, as you say, are the perfect way to try out RC.
Even when you've been in the hobby for a while, I couldn't afford to drop the best part of £1500 on an XMaxx!! The amount of use my cars get is limited by work, the weather, and other commitments.
The smiles over mile I get from my "cheaper" cars is far better than if I only went out and spent more on a Traxxas/Arena/ etc!!
I also buy some cars second hand. These tend to be the more expensive stuff, but obviously, a lot cheaper than new.
The only gripe I have with some of the Chinese cars is, and I know this gets you as much as it does me, is the poor quality shocks, and minor components they sometimes put on their stuff! Quite why WL Toys still do this, considering where they were in the market after the 144001 is baffling!!
These brands only need to watch your channel to find out how much people hate friction shocks for example, would they ever put them on another car, for the sake of maybe a couple of $ at their end?!
I love the balance of cars you feature on the channel. I wish you'd do more crawlers, but I understand that's not your thing, and I completely get that.
Keep on, keeping on, and to those who have nothing nice (or constructive) to say, say nothing!

It makes complete sense from a TH-cam maker standpoint to do the cheaper RC's especially because a lot of them don't have any proper reviews out so you go to TH-cam to get the proper reviews and see what you are getting if you order that particular RC. With the bigger branded stuff you pretty much know what you're going to get and if you don't there's plenty of ways to find out if it's decent or not other than watching TH-cam. It would make sense to me that the cheaper RCS probably gain more views because of this people want to actually see what they can do and use TH-cam as a review platform for them, it's pretty simple really.

Yeah Chinese cheap are a good option for newbies, but long term parts support is still a huge problem especially when you run them like 10 years or so. Think that’s the biggest issue, next to the “they used metal parts”, thanks for nothing, it’s relevant what Metall like steal or which type of aluminium. But it’s always interesting to see what the Chinese do so go ahead with it.

I agree fully with what you said and feel your channel has a good overall variation. For me you're one of the few honest reviewers and happily say when something is trash or like with rlarrlo when their parts availability and support was shit you called them out for it instead of saying nothing like certain others.
The big brands like Arrma do still have a lot to learn why would you pay the money for their smaller 1/16 or 1/14 cars when companies like mjx and others make and sell cars much quicker and cheaper that are just as durable it's a no brainer. And as you say plenty of people enjoy those cheaper cars just as much as the more expensive one's.

I love this channel for it's review honesty, and integrity, about all brands of rc cars and trucks. You are 100% right about nearly all of them being chinese, though, thats technology in general. The perk about buying 'american' lies in the fact that you live in america. But with the availability being setup in other countries, then it's best to get whats local to you, unless you dont mind shipping time. Just saying, affordable is an attractive price tag, regardless of the name of the brand.
Keep up what you've been doing, because that's why I'm here. Its easy to find whole channels dedicated to the big name rc rigs. Channels like yours show us those, and new competitors, which are generally what people will get, getting started. So yeah, keep the hobby alive by sparking interests, not playing a loyalty game to a company that doesn't listen to you.

Completely agree with you, it's the cheap stuff that got my foot in the door, started off with a Wltoys 124017v2, 40mph out the box, loved it. Now I have Arrma Infraction, Traxxas Xmaxx, UDR and I'm saving for a racer to join my local indoor club. I wasn't prepared to spend $1000 to start with but I didn't mind the £125 on my Wltoys (with 2 batteries) to see what all the fuss was about after watching a few online videos.
Once I started I loved it, it's a great hobby, I've met loads of decent people and I couldn't wait to get me a bigger more expensive car. I just can't see why anyone would be against the Chinese companies as it gets people like me into the hobby. What with the cost of living at the moment a lot of people don't have the same disposable income they once had, so the cheaper Chinese brands become very appealing, especially as you get some great performance from a lot of these cheaper cars, just cause they're cheaper doesn't mean they're no good. My Wltoys is faster on 2s out the box than a lot of the bigger brands on 3s. 42mph out the box is really impressive if you ask me. Also they can be upgraded to do some insane speeds for not much money, you get so much more for your money than you do from the cheaper end of Traxxas and Arrma (like you said) The Traxxas and Arrma's are twice the price with half the performance, often with plastic gears, brushed motors etc
I think Traxxas and Arrma make great cars at the bigger more expensive end of the market but at the lower end they're often no way near as good as the cheaper Chinese alternatives

    • @janklaassen6404
      @janklaassen6404 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

HNR Werewolf is also rebranded as FTX EVO30. So maybe you could get those parts?
Also, make sure to invert the gyro and don't do 3s on the stock tires. The stock rubber is strangely soft and will hit the frame ballooning at high speed causing it to crash. It will run any 1:10 wheels though.
Also, brilliantly fun car. It's my favorite, especially at dawn with the wonderful lights.
Adjust the camber if you get uneven tire wear and I've installed
the included shock collars to raise the car a bit to avoid crashes on small bumps.
Lastly, you can lower the headlights to avoid blinding with a big drill and hot glue :)

Thing is for me I find I get far more use out of the smaller scale stuff than the bigger 1/10+ stuff I own. They're easier to chuck in a bag and use at work on a break. The chinese brands like mjx, hbx and the ldrc drift cars are perfect for this so I own a fair few and are a damn sight cheaper than arrma grom range. So I like seeing the reviews and which I should be adding to the collection next. So please keep doing what your doing. Besides my pockets are deep enough for things that are £200+!

There's got to be a place in the market for lower price RC cars, that's were you start from & build up to the more premium brands, I started with Absima & FTX, which I still have, now I also have Kyosho & Traxxas, my other hobby is Air Guns, it's the same there, you can spend £100 on a budget brand(ironically most are made in China) but you spend upwards of £3k+(definitely not made in China 😁) again I have both, budget & premium, so there's always a place on TH-cam with your take on the hobby Ricky, long may it continue 😁👍

Totally agree with you. And parts are not a problem. Usually when I buy a car from e.g. AE or Rlaarlo or... I just buy it together with upgrades and other parts, wich I know will brake first. And the package is still much cheaper than a big brand car. Don't get me wrong, I have Traxxas, Kyosho and LC racing too, but just because I like one specific car, not the brand. The so often named availability of parts is often a rumor. Escpecially Traxxas serves the US marked first, so in Switzerland you often have to wait months for availability. And often shipping from a european country or USA take longer and is much more expensive than shipping from China. And after some years in the hobby everybody has lots of other cars to drive with, if one is damaged. Keep on the good work!

The screws, bearings are all Chinese parts, some of them from Taiwan.
