This is the new MJX 20208 and although it’s small it’s incredibly mighty... or is it?
You may remember I reviewed the JJRC version and that was brilliant. This is the new MJX version and apart from some very small differences it’s essentially the same truck and that’s a good thing as the JJRC was epic!

I have had this for 3 days now, and I have been playing it non stop! This is my first basher, but I am already experienced with RC Crawling. One VERY important thing to note is that it is barely splashproof. The body where the motherboard is placed also acts like a cup that catches all the water splashes. The first time I ran mine through a puddle, it stopped working. I got around this issue by disassembling it and painting the front and back of the tiny motherboard with a thick layer of nail polish. It is pretty flat and easy to coat with it. It made a world of difference and I have been having tons of fun running it in light rain and puddles. I also strapped a super bright LED flashlight on mine just for fun. There is also a spare 5v slot on the motherboard, which might prove useful for FPV or extra LED mods.
Although a single battery lasts for a long time, I do recommend getting the 2 or 3 battery version as it is quite hard to source extra batteries based on my experience. Also, for everyone looking for spare parts, I hope it helps to know that this has the same internal and mechanical parts as the JJRC 8811.
The throttle delay disappears when you crank the power all the way up. It does have this delay/rubber band effect on the mid to lowest end.
Lastly, this is made for kids and kids at heart. With that in mind, it only makes sense to ship it with a sealed, tamper resistant, and modular battery. This means you can trust to leave it with the young ones without the risk of puncturing a spicy pillow battery. If you look at it from that perspective, it does make a lot of sense. And if you hate it, you can just buy a standard LiPo with a deans plug, and strap it with a zip tie.
I bought it for 269 RMB($:37), so it's perfect.
I can put it in my daughter's bicycle basket and go to the park together. It's a bit childish for her at 10, but it's just right for me at 40.
I just got two of the JJRC ones from Ali Express and one had the exact same throttle problem you experienced, while the other was perfect. Must be a common problem with the ESC, which appears to be identical in both. Thanks for this video.

Others will complain about the battery but i got a rebranbed with 2 batteries and 2 bodies on amazon. I like the battery. It clips into place and easy to connect. Easy to remove. Much better that tray and velcro. Reminder speed is turned down alot and with that you get delayed throttle out of the box. Its for beginner kids. You crank it up and gets a big power increase and delay goes away.😮

MJX 14210 also have got the throttle delay. Change esc and everything is good.
this 1/20 is a little different. the motor is soldered to a board, which is the 2 in 1. Just one extra step soldering on motor bullets but its also very tight so youd have to be strategic w fitting the new esc and rx.

i have a few 1/10 and 1/12 cars/trucks and a few 1/16-1/24th and the little ones get run more... i can zip them around in the driveway after work or at work on lunch... the big ones are fun and fast etc but the tiny ones can run so many more places... and they are cheap so i can get all my mates to get one and we can race at work!

MJX receiver and remotes seem to have that delay. It is always good to use your own transmitter with Hyper Go RCs.
It's not the radio transmitter or receiver, the ESC they use is the main contributor for the lag.
On my 14210 it definitely is the ESC, as I changed the transmitter and receiver for a proper one and it still has the delay

I don't think it's a case of MJX or JJRC etc coming up with a design & then the others copying it...
Rather I believe it's more likely that a large unnamed RC design & manufacturing outfit come up with designs then see which manufacturers would like to put their names on it.
Or they speak to them first to get them on board then go away & design it.?
Obviously each manufacturer can spec their particular one as they see fit, like price point & to align with whatever brand design they have to make it their own.
This is why we see so many RCs that look very similar.
Look at the ROG1 & the JJRC, JUISI? & ZD Racing versions, they all had slightly different bodies, ESCs & other bits, but they were all obviously the same RC.
I could be entirely wrong of course.! 😉 😉

I mean, carisma has been selling onroad/rally 1/24 brushless car for around 200 euros (btw, no oil filled shock) fon yeara now, i do not see anything wrong with this one. In a small garthen this thing will be amazing

If you have a tiny back yard something this size might make a backyard track more possible.
I just thought about this $70 1/20 scale is only 3 mph slower than my $285 Traxxas Mini Maxx…. It topped out at 24 mph 😂😂 I’m not a mathematical genius but you see the better value😂😂

Ended up returning this truck because the hub stripped out where the tie rod screws in. Got a full refund from Amazon. It was fun while it lasted but they don't sell parts for them yet.
Sluggishness is probably to protect the drive-train, like how a real car has limiters on 1st and 2nd gears to stop you from blowing up the gearbox
Yeah that seems to drive just like my JJRC 1/20 MT. Feels mushy on the throttle from the delay but if i try to ignore it , the car drives mostly normally. its the worst when starting from a stop
The scale suits where you intend to drive it, so there is a market for all sizes. It has an actual Dean's plug, not those cheap crappy T-plugs, nice small detail, shame they undid the good work with the battery. Can't have everything can we. Odd the transmitter response is sluggish too.
I've got the amazingone version. It has the same throttle lag problem. Just like my mjx hypergo. Not the new one though the 1/10th is great. The others could use an esc upgrade.
BTW that control delay seems to be standard for this model. I got the same one and I'm fixing to switch the esc to fix the issue.

@@beyondRC hmmm... i got the 1/20 JJrc and it has a crazy delay, my only complaint really. its alot of work to change out radio and esc but im considering it.

The same with me. I fitted my own 2-3s 20A ESC and a receiver in it. No more delay 🙂

I have a ton of china branded RC’s and I’m a fan of MJX-HBX-JJRC-ETC ETC and sometimes they can be a “hit or miss”. The difference is I fully expect this from those brands before buying them. I recently did a video on 1/18 (18859a) & 1/16 (16889a-pro) brushless HBX’s and I had so much fun, then unbox a new MJX 16208 brushless and the front differential is in backwards.😂 I’m good with that, what makes me mad is unboxing a new Arrma that was clearly broken BEFORE it was strapped in to a dent free box! Great video as always brother!

I did a speed test in the vid dude.. lol. 21mph for a 1/20 is pretty good but the throttle delay is very annoying and the lack of punch.
Who actually makes these JJRC or MJX? I have been very confused about that. JJRC seems to have marketed it first.

This seems to be a clone of the Laegendary Triton 1/20, which has been around for the past 4-5 years I believe. The Triton is brushed, and has a plastic drive line, but has none of the delayed response issues that these have.
I know it's not a big cost, but I'm afraid I think that is exactly what they would say
