    Now that the rear end is located in the center, it is time to get the forgotten panhard bar system designed and located. The rear end will float all over without the addition of the panhard rod. The panhard rod will have some adjustability left and right. It will be designed to move in a proper arc to keep the rear end centered when it goes up and down.

    • @_H00N
      @_H00N 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      pan hards swing the diff in an arc and wont stay centred , a watts linkage setup wil keep it truly centrered

    • @robertshoesmith5074
      @robertshoesmith5074 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should not weld on one side of the axle as it will bend the tube as it cools. Think about what it does to the alignment of the axle bearings. Sorry if this upsets you but you need to know these things. Old hotrodders have known these problems for many years.

    • @robertshoesmith5074
      @robertshoesmith5074 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since "it moves in a proper arc" it cannot stay centred but move sideways a little. It should be as long as possible to reduce the sideways movement and parallel to the ground at normal ride height.

    3 degree up of pinion angle. Measure wheel base on both sides. You also need around 1/2” of travel on the trany slip joint. But that’s by the book. Lol

    The drive shaft must not be straight alignment to the trans and pinion. . Using an angle finder the down angle at the trans should be set complementary to the up angle at the rear end measured at the drive shaft of between 3 and 5 degrees. This way under acceleration the pinion angle will never be above straight alignment to the transmission. If it is straight or above there is undo stress on the u-joints.

    Leaf springs usually allow for rear end “wrap”. So the pinion angle is set down a few degrees. Ladder bar cars usually set the pinion angle to zero.

  • @LargeCarLife
    @LargeCarLife 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wouldn’t put a T in the air bags. You will have a lot better stability and less body roll with 4 individual lines and no T’s. If they are T’d and you take a hard corner one side of the car will want to deflate and push all the air into the bag on the other side of the car. If ya know what I’m trying to say Chado.

  • @kathyschwendeman2563
    @kathyschwendeman2563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Harold Schwendeman on wife Kathy's computer; love your youtubes and I watch every day; you and Jolene make a great team!
    It would seem like a driveline lined up as close to perfectly straight as possible would be ideal. But in reality, U-joints should flex at least a minimum amount with each rotation. That bit of flexing ensures that those little needle bearings move at least enough with each rotation to distribute the lubrication for each little "needle". I'm not sure what that minimum amount of angle should be, but something like a "MACHINERY'S HANDBOOK" would provide that info. With "perfect" or "near perfectly straight" driveshaft alignment, the bearing surface in the U-joint needle bearing cups will quickly wear a little groove for each needle due to never moving from one spot and the U-joint will have to be replaced!

    I have to commend Chad on the battle he has with the small welder. You can hear the wire speed slow down and speed up, it's caused by the small wire drive having issues at different parts of the wire spool and tight bends in the whip/gun. I find it such a pain in the arse with some of the smaller welders, and the brands don't seem to matter they all do it.

  • @midgetrace
    @midgetrace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The proper pinion angle is the same angle as the crankshaft. If the crank is 2 degrees the pinion should also be 2 degrees. The angle of change is depending on the length of your torque arms. The longer the arm the less change. Don't forget the rear will move left and right depending on the rear control arm. A panhard bar (recommended) will move the rear end a little left and right as the body moves up and down.

    Chad the rear end will not rotate and alter the pinion angle under power . It cannot if you use the radius rods. You might find it hard to understand but if you Jack oneside up it will try to twist the axle as it moves up through a radius.
    You should either use a four bar set-up or make the radius rods much longer and angle them towards the centre of the car.
    I am not trying to criticise your work but just trying to teach you and others as you do.
