Bought my 2002 Tacoma brand new and it’s still my daily driver 19 years and 300k miles later. They are without a doubt the best gen Tacomas made. I have people ask me if I want to sell it ALL the time.
@@Flyingaceful nice! I’ve never changed my timing belt. Maybe I should. The only things I’ve replaced on it (non maintenance) are the radiator, the muffler, and 2 oxygen sensors. The factory CD player bought the farm last year but who needs that when you have AM/FM radio and a tape deck! 😂
Still driving my first gen, and I can attest to the off-road prowess. Used to take her down a lot of rough trails at 30 to 50 mph and she took all the abuse without complaint. I love her, but you've got me pretty stoked about the third gen and now I've got wandering eyes. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
First gens are the best. Mine is a beater and it has been all over Arizona. The North central Arizona desert and mountains has taken its toll on the body but it’s a solid built truck
I've seen a few first gen tacomas in the town I live near and some are in worse shape then that one and they are still running. Its crazy what you can put those trucks through and have them still run like nothing happened to it.
Love it! My first Toyota was a 1999 first gen in this configuration white on black except mine was a 5spd man a fun truck it had the 2.74cyl but still had plenty of power I did some off-roading with it but its main function was hauling my dirt bikes camping and my daily, great trucks and can’t wait to get another Toyota!👍😁
Can't go wrong with any gen. I used to have an '84 Toyota Pickup that was awesome off road. With all the mods and its small size it was almost like being on a 4wheeler, but with heat 😅
Nice video - just subscribed - I appreciate your energy. I have a 3rd Gen (2019 TRD Off Road) and my best friend had a 2002 TRD Off Road 4x4 Access Cab (with a 5" suspension lift, ARB Bumper, 33" Duratrac tires, Warn Winch, lights , etc). My friend had bought the truck new and meticulously maintained it . The truck looked and drove like new; anything that needed it had been replaced with OEM (including clutch, timing belt/water pump, brakes). My friend sold the truck to my son early last year. My son had just turned 18 at the time and had never driven a standard/manual transmission. We own a horse farm on a river so my son has been driving tractors, motorcycles since he was little, thus the learning curve on the truck's transmission was not a big deal. Those 1st gen trucks are such great vehicles - and are a joy to drive - on and off road!
Thank you! Very cool that your son has a clean first gen-- it's so important in my opinion to keep up with the maintenance and use OEM parts when possible, so I'm sure it will last forever!
Great video as always. San Diego native here & I’ve owned all 3 generations. I just traded in my ‘03 Prerunner for my TRD 4x4 Sport. It’s bone stock but I’m saving up for mods. Keep the great videos comin’, Chloe ✌🏾
Thank you 😊 it’s funny you say that, because I actually still get nervous while talking and filming, even after making 40 of these Tacoma videos or so haha. Working on getting better and improving as I make more videos!
1st gen Tacoma’s are among the best that have ever been produced. 2nd gen are really good too. 3rd gen kinda fell apart. Toyota needs to get their shit together. I hope they do before the ranger raptor comes to the USA. The ranger raptor will dominate the midsize truck industry.
Chloe you do a great job with your videos. They always seem to bring a smile to my face. I almost fell over in my chair when the camera went over backwards ha ha! I’m glad you didn’t hit that elk. That would have been neat to get it on film. Cody is getting big. I hope he still has the “Free beer if found “ collar 😀. That sure is a beautiful area to hit some trails. Awesome music too 👍.
Loved this! I’m from Oregon and just got my first gen Tacoma and it’s actually in arizona! Where were you at during this video?? I need a good trail or two to take it on while I’m down there:)
Hi Chloe, I used to have a 2001 Tacoma access cab off road that had a factory supercharger on it, in hind sight I wish I would have kept it, it would be worth more now then when I had it back then.... Man did it fly, a supercharger is such an awesome addition although it cost $5000, it was a rush... Glad you liked the 2002... neat little trucks right..? Great video, have fun in Arizona
Nice job Chole. Is it my imagination or has the white paint on that 1 Gen held up really well? I hope I can look forward to the same with my 2020 TRD Sport 4X4 in Super White.
I agree about the smaller trucks. I love my 85 work cab short box...it has a 10" lift 38.5" tires....yes Original 22R. And I had a 1985 long bed work cab with a 355c.i. chevy power plant...stroker motor. Very Fast!!!...I dont love the Tacoma's for that reason being a mid size truck. But once a Toyota freak always a Toyota freak....lol
I myself have never tapped into my Tacoma’s software, but the OV tune accomplishes what you described. That or the latest TSB from your dealership. Hope this helps!
"Hard to see over the hood". Sorry short folks. I'm 6'10" and see out of mine just fine. Lol. I also SMH at people saying there's not enough leg room in them. I drove mine (2019 TRD offroad) from Tampa area in Florida to the San Juan mountains in Colorado (2100 miles) back in July in 3 days and was never uncomfortable. Ran Black Bear pass and a bunch of others, camped out of it the whole trip (rooftop tent), and drove it back. To me it's the most versatile truck there is!
You should try a original Toyota pickup before they were called a Tacoma I had a 1988 extra cab 4 cylinder 5 speed it was indestructible except for body rust.
Bulletproof😂. Too bad bullets aren’t the enemy. Rust, recalled paint, and cheap electronics are the enemy and they are definitely not immune to those. Rusty frames and peeling paint should be listed on additional features🤭

Same here : )
I also still have my 01 tacoma as daily driver. Just got done replacing the timing belt package for the 2nd time (200k + miles).

Ok, I'm here for the 1st gen :) Nice job on the presentation.
my 01 Tacoma was my first car. currently getting a full restoration... best trucks toyota ever made there.
Totally agree! I still have my dealer bought 99 as my daily driver.
I'm hoping to do a full rebuild one day.
Something needs to break first.
best with the exception of the Frame.

I used to own a 92 toyota pickup. Pushed that thing through the toughest mountain environments. 3-6 feet of snow. Unstoppable

Beater's a real sweatheart 🥰 good to see she didnt get scrapped.
i saw this truck on your instagram and i couldn’t WAIT for you to drop the video on it! great video once again 👍🏼
Thank you!

I have a third gen but use my first gen as my daily driver. They are both fun to drive.
I'd love one for a daily driver as well, while keeping my 3rd gen for weekend fun
my girls got around 240k stil goin strong!! Love to see it

Killer video 🔥🔥🔥🔥

my 2000 TRD Toyota Tacoma sr5 4 wdrive/220,000 miles still going, looks nice, garage kelt.

ugh i'm excited. Trading a trailblazer ss for an 02' supercharged taco this Saturday. Hoping it pulls through! Thanks for the quick review.
Awesome!!! I can't say that I'm not a little bit jealous, but hope you enjoy your truck!
Heard nothing but great things on the TRD SC on the first gen tacos 👌🏼

The one truck I regret selling was my 02 Tacoma single cab
My dads 2003 tacoma has 200k miles

I have a 2004 with 203K miles on it. It lived in oklahoma for it's first 180K miles.
friend of mine had a 1980s tacoma.
Hey chloe..do you anything bout reprogaming the automatic transmission on the 2017 4x4 tacomas for better power to the higher gearing from 4th to 6th?
I myself have never tapped into my Tacoma’s software, but the OV tune accomplishes what you described. That or the latest TSB from your dealership. Hope this helps!
Straight Pipes theme song!! 👍
Chloe have you ever considered getting an amateur radio license and putting a radio in your truck?

My Tacoma has 230000 km and still gets 13l/100 lol your Tahoe probably guzzles gas like your wife guzzles French fries 😏

1st generation are far better looking than 3rd generation. Tacoma's just keep getting uglier. The Japanese need to design them again.
