Your high AF if you don't think Duncan is a Center. Just because he played PF when Robinson was around, he played his last half of his career as the Center and dominated the position. I'm old, saw them all and have met them all. Wilt was the greatest ever. He tends to be judged by his last four years. He was still a force but Wilt from 62 to 67 has never be equalled. Prior to his knee issues he was faster than most guards. Strongest best rebounder ever. His younger scoring came from everywhere not just dunks. In today's game he averages 40 pts - 22 boards, leads the league in blocks. Period.
Who are you to disrespect previous era? Do you disrespect your parents and grandparents just because they're old? Every generation has differences. There are many aspects of previous generations that are superior to this generation.
+Mike G I seriously doubt that. An amateur David Robinson dominated Sabonis in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and David Robinson isn't a Top 5 center( i have Robinson 6th all-time) historically. Robinson had 23pts-13reb-4blk against Sabonis 15pts-13rebs.
It's like Rick Barry said it's ridiculous to name anyone other than Wilt Chamberlain as the greatest. He has been out of the game for many decades but still holds a ton of records, most of which will never be approached let alone beaten. Things like 26 blocks in one game, 55 rebounds ( against Russell ) in one game, 50.4 points average for season, of course the 100 point game and the list goes on and on. He's not just the best center, he's the greatest player of all time period.
I would add a pre-NBA Arvidas Sabonis before he had bad knees and ankles. He could shoot from three point range and in the low or high post. He was also the best passing center.
I don't think any center can come close to Arvydas Sabonis, if you're not looking at just statistics. At 7'3 he can handle the ball (believe he started out as a point guard), had court vision like no other with high basketball IQ, great passer, defends well, and can shoot the 3. He really was the complete package.
shaq is a great interview very respectful even though i think he can come off arrogant but i see he deep seeded respect for the elders i can really appericate that
The Dream is the GOAT. Only 6'11 but he is the most versatile player in this category. He could score, rebound, block shots, the best footwork of this group. Just watch his highlights. People forget real quick how dominant he was. Wilt and Russell played against some short white dudes. Hakeem played in the best era of centers: Robinson, Ewing, Mutumbo, Shaq. That's why he is the best
I'll always be biased towards Hakeem because I'm a Nigerian muslim from Lagos as well. But even without the bias, dude was something else. With that said it's too difficult to qualify anyone as GOAT, there are too many variables that can't be controlled.
olajuwon is my favorite center, but to say that wilt and russell had mediocre competition is ridiculous, if that was the case, centers like olajuwon, shaq, ewing, etc would not have respect for those two

Great interview with Shaq. I'm hoping one day the next dominate Wilt/Shaq center comes along, finesse centers are awesome but it's amazing to see brute strength centers with finesse skills and speed.
Awesome interview! Loved Shaq's thoughts on his parents. Especially is sweet mother. Didn't know that about the Diesel! I loved loved loved Shaq here in Los Angeles. The best Laker 3 peat ever!
Centers are rising again! Jokic, Towns, Whiteside, Marc, Brook, Turner. None can compare to the centers of the 60s 70s 80s 90s or 00s but still pretty alright, I feel like Jokic and Towns are gonna be phenomenal in a few years.
@@Rockcroc2000Rm1wE3erWmNfkL didn't know Jokic was in so long. But here to say, he has had pretty consistent results with just slowing the game down and just taking his time to score when he has possession. Even pulls off nice methodical post moves sometimes. Not the same, as you already said. But, he's not bad by any means.
Man i am mad impressed at how humble and respectful shaq is of the greats before him. He is like a sponge just ready to learn as much as he can. He jokes a lot and makes u laugh a lot but he so damn smart. He listened to the right people and emulated the strengths of the best centres. Mad respect Shaq fu! Shake my head at the centres now...lolz
Shaq jokes around a lot and loves to goof BUT he is smart and articulate and I could just listen to him talk. I do wonder why there can''t be another BIGTIME center on the way. It is weird that the true C has gone the way of the dodo bird.
I don't think Shaq is smart in this interview. If you compare his interview to Kareem's Shaq seems to be very uneducated. Maybe that's why Kareem is called an intellectual player ... ;)
bnegs521 Maybe you're wrong! Selling does NOT require an intellectual intelligence! :P I judge the intelligence from the answers Shaq or Kareem give. And there Shaq is sometimes very primitive and not at all eloquent. Kareem however seems to weights his words very carfully. This speaks of a very eloquent and intelligent man! Kareem doesn't even show his religion. He there had chosen a neutral expression also very clever! So you're dead wrong about Shaq, Kareem and me! xD Oh on your question, why true Centers have gone there is an answer by Kareem: "Big guys want to play basketball like MJ or Dr J." Maybe this proofs my view ... ;)
+bnegs521 ... Kareem is a far more intelligent, eloquent, articulate, worldly gentleman tha O'neil, whom I can't even understand half the time as he mumbles so much. Kareem showed that he was aware of the world outside of basketball. O'neil doesn't have that same capacity. Kareem has a classic jazz mentality. O'neil is a terrible fake rapper and would be confused by great jazz.
You are a moron. Kareem is stupider than YOU. And that is saying something. Kareem wanted to be a head coach so badly but was just too stupid to even get a job despite he had a big name.
Bill Russell had such a great knowledge of the game that he was able to win 11 championships. He was the greatest defender and winner in NBA history ever. Russell was a tremendous leaper as well, in fact, in 1956 he was named the 2nd overall in the world at the high jump.
man, these are great interviews! how you manage to talk to shaq??!! you must have connections. i'm wondering if you can do more of these, i'd love to know what they were thinking going up against each other.
Sabonis (played well against a prime Shaq, when he was past his prime, overweight and injured) and Walton (could score and defend) need be mentioned. There, I did it.
Spot on with Hakeem as number 1...but I love that he gave Moses some love. The most underrated centers in history simply because he was one of the greatest and yet he never gets talked about.
1965 finals Celtics vs Philly....Wilt averaged 30.1 ppg, 31.4 rpg 55% fg and 58% ft Russell averaged 15.6 ppg, 25.3 rpg 45% fg and 47% ft. Both players were in their prime at this time and going head to head
No player in the history of the NBA has or will be more dominate than Wilt Chamberlain. He played in the most physically tough era, taking an ass kicking day after day. Unless a new player comes along and dominates the game so much that rules are changed to hinder his game Wilt will always be the GOAT.
After reading these replies, I'm convinced that people do not realize how different the rules were back then. Do people know why it looked like people couldn't handle the ball off the dribble? It's because dribbling meant having your hand over the top of the ball. Guys like Jordan and A.I. would get called for palming, carrying, and 3/4 about 30 times a game back in the '60's. Oh, and there was a rule called traveling that unlike today, was actually enforced.
love this list but Wilt was clearly the best center period. He had video game stats. the most dominant player ever. The only thing that hurt SAS that Bill Russell teams were just better.
wilt is such a hard player to put in comparison with other bugs just because he was a bread of big before his time. I mean who did he rival?? I know russel was there, but russel had an amazing team which always shut down wilt. Russell was not better than wilt head to head, so it's just so hard to really compare wilt to other greats. I like to compare this by switching shaq and wilt and putting each in their respective era. would wilt still be as dominant?? there is not question that shaq would. I'm not knocking on what you are saying but these are just things to consider. and basing in on stats can be difficult because they are all just relative.
I agree with everything you said. I would also like to add that I think Yao Ming was another center that could battle shaq. Yao was a giant and could shoot all day over shaq. I always dreaded the days when my Lakers faced Yao and the rockets. Unfortunately injuries ended his career. But yes, shaq was a freak of nature. You had the power and finesse with amazing post moves and a killer instinct on the court. Thanks for the reply!!
GDM Charlotte Lol. You obviously never saw Wilt play live. I did. Everything you said was wrong. Wilt is much quicker and more agile than Shaq, and Wilt would laugh his ass off while Shaq was gulping oxygen on the bench. Shaq couldn’t pull 90% of his crap in Wilt’s era. Without the hand check and quadruple teaming of Wilt, in today’s game he’d score at will.
@@garyfortenberry5829 Bill was quicker and could jump standing straight up without having to set his feet like wilt. He also outhustled wilt and was more clutch for his team
We have to be fuckin honest guys. Olajuwon: Was in top 5 categories, Steals, Block shots, shooting percentage, rebounds, and was dunks. Olajuwon made rockets win 2 NBA titles. All NBA superstars like Shaq, Jordan, and Pippen said that Olajuwon will be the best center.
arvydas sabonis gets no respect and he's easily a top 5 all time center. He was 7'3 270 and a crazy athlete before his knees went out in his early 30's. he could shoot 3's and being bring the ball up the court and initiate an offense as well as any guard at the time. factor in his amazing passing and dribbling skills and the dude dominated like few before. no one knows it because he didn't get to leave Russia to play in the NBA until he was 34 And his knees were going out. But TH-cam old highlights of his and you'll be in awe. particularly the ones against the USA men's basketball team.
Are you serious? Top 5 of all time? I get that he joined the NBA late and could have been one of the greatest centers of all time but the fact is he didn't. His not even top 15 centers of all time just stop it the stats proves it.
Yeah we'll never know but who knows what "supplements" he might've been on playing in the then Soviet union those years. He was a smoker and a drinker and didn't keep himself in the greatest shape even when he wasn't injured
@@nassifguiling4922 Dude, he had an Aqhiles injury (with 23/24 years) It was 18 months without playing and later on several knees injuries. When he arrived to NBA he was playing at his 30% said by his doctors in Portland. You don't even know what are u talking about, go watch stats boy.
Hakeem is #1. Of the 'traditional' top 5 or 6, (Kareem, Hakeem, Wilt, Russell, Shaq, Moses), he's the only one who won a championship without a stacked team. He took the Rockets to the Finals his 2nd year in the league, beating the Show Time Lakers, albeit losing to the Celtics in the Finals. He won 2 championships, the first one with his best teammates being Kenny Smith and Robert Horry?! His supporting cast had like 1 all star appearance combined in their careers. And then they got Clyde Drexler and repeated, but it was Olajuwon schooling Robinson and then Shaq that made it happen. How many championships does Kareem have without Robertson or Magic? Zero. Shaq had Kobe and then D Wade. Russell had Cousy and Jones and all those boys. Moses had Dr. J, Mo Cheeks, Bobby Jones. Wilt's team was stacked when he won his first chip, which only happened because he was finally forced to stop being a ball hog and pad his stats and pass the ball to Greer (HOFer). Then he hooks up with Baylor and West in LA, and beats the Knicks in the finals only because Reed (top 10 center all time) not playing with a knee injury. Which is evident when the Knicks turned around with a healthy Reed the next year and beat them in the finals. Hakeem did it with less. Top 10 in scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, FG%. Hakeem The Dream!
Well, Ewing isn't in the discussion. And Shaq ended up beating Hakeem in the playoffs when Hakeem was at the tail end of his career and Shaq was with the Lakers on that HOF team, yes. What's your point?
Well that sounds entirely different than the first thing you said. But, Shaq lost in the finals to Olajuwon, in 94-95 season, when he was in Orlando. All I'm doing is counting rings, and what it took to get there. Look at a guy like Abdul Jabbar. He was the most dominate player in a decade where basketball was at a lower level (70's generally regarded as weak), yet couldn't win a championship.
Wilt was the best shot blocker/rebounder and probably the best scorer. Had amazing passing ability, was stronger than Shaq, had the best endurance, could out run Jim Brown, and never fouled out of a game. Truly amazing and probably the goat.
Yeah, Wilt's definitely my top pick for a 1v1 against anyone. He's also in my five-man team. Bill Russell as Center, Tim Duncan as PF, Larry Bird as SF, Michael Jordan as SG and Magic Johnson as PG. Wait, there's no Wilt? Don't worry, he's on the bench, ready to take over for whomever falters, in any position. Also, to make sure the opponents know what's waiting for them, should they get rough.
1. Wilt 2. Kareem 3. Russell 4. Shaq 5. Olajuwon 6. Moses I saw all of them in their primes. They were all so great. And they'd been great in any era. Dipper Dunk.
Wilt and Bill I heard over the radio, games were only broadcast on Sunday afternoon, kiddies. Wilt,Bill, Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, Moses, (Walton if he had been healthy). In no particular order, Reed, Robinson, Thurmond. Then come Ewing, Cowens and Bellamy.
If you think Hakeem is not the best Center NBA ever had. Check his numbers. He was the most well rounded center in all categoies, points, blocks, steals, rebounds, FG%
+Goztepe2002 Really? Sorry, don't think so. Points - Wilt holds both single season and single game records. Blocks - Official stats weren't kept in Wilt's day, but there are numerous of games where Wilt's block totals were unofficially kept. Wilt is said to average 6-8 blocks per game with numerous games with 20-30 blocks. Steals - Official stats weren't kept, but Wilt excelled at reaching in and poking the ball away from offensive players (like Hakeem) or simply sticking out those freakishly long arms to snare a pass. Wilt got a LOT of steals and there is plenty of video to prove it. Rebounds - Greatest rebounder in NBA history. Once grabbed 55 in a game while being defended by Bill Russell. Shooting % - Wilt, not Hakeem is the one who holds the NBA single season record. You didn't mention assists, but Wilt also once led the league in that too! Hakeem is great, but he's no Wilt. No one is.
Goztepe2002 Hakeem was the most well-rounded center to ever play the game. He is one of few players with no major weaknesses, but to say he’s the best center over Chamberlain, Kareem, and Russell is just disrespecting those guys and their legacies. The Dream was great, but him and Shaq can fight for the 4th best center spot.
for sure Sabonis is a much more skilled player comparing to dumb wood Shaq. Sabas was a better passer, better shooter and had a much better basketball IQ.
@@dovydass7020 that’s a lie. But I guess shooting is the only skill that matters these days. Shaq could pass and play iso ball on the perimeter as well as bring it up court. Search magic Shaq or early laker Shaq highlights. Got footage of a 350 lbs man grabbing the board pushing it up court spinning off a defender and dunking with 2 hands. Cut it out
If the most dominant force in NBA history says Hakeem is the best center all time then you have to agree. Hakeem was so magical on the court. Fluid. He glided on the court. As if you were watching a dream (no pun intended) Hakeem truly is the greatest center all time
+SOLOperformance - THE MOST DOMINATE FORCE IN NBA HISTORY WAS WILT CHAMBERLAIN AND HE SAID THE BEST CENTER IN HISTORY WAS WILT CHAMBERLAIN, AND IT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE. YES, YOU ARE CORRECT. YOU HAVE TO AGREE.
+Vernon Warren well with respect, wilt never played against someone as dominate as him self. What I mean by that is, if you put high school ball player vs a bunch of 6th graders then of course the high school kid will have outstanding numbers. Same thing with wilt, he didn't have competition like Ewing, robinson, Malone, Oakley, lambeer, ect. I truly believe that had wilt played in the 80's and 90's he wouldn't have the numbers he has. Nor would he be as dominate.
SOLOperformance I respect your opinion but I disagree with you. Wilt played against Hall of Fame centers. Do your research first. He was just that much greater than his competition
He's quite a humble guy to be fair to him. He mentions his father (his stepfather but calls him his father i think?) a lot. Certainly he mentions his parents/a parent a lot more than 90% of all the athletes that I have seen do interviews. Respect to the diesel!
wooooow when Shaq says "im the last coming of Wilt, cause after me there wont no more, right?" "well, you know what, when I see him, i'll be the first to say 'welcome my son'" He did this with Giannis; he handed him the supermanship and proclaimed Giannis the Shaq of this era
1-Hakeem 2-Kareem 3-Wilt 4-Shaq 5-Russell 6-Moses 7- Pat Ewing/Robinson 9-Nate Thurmond I would put Sabonis at no6 or 7 but injuries and lack of NBA career make me think twice...
1. Jabbar - Greatest Offensive Center ever + longevity 2. Olajuwon - Most versatile and all rounded Center ever. 3. Shaq - Most physically dominating and efficient Center ever 4. Russell - Greatest winning Center/Leader ever. 5. Wilt - Most statistically dominating Center ever
@@biasedfan yeah calling me retarded while putting Shaq aka the king of beating up creampuff PF or C's for his titles above Hakeem who ironically won Finals MVP against him, lol. Thank you for putting Wilt and Russel at the top. Wilt and Russel never get the respect they deserve. If Wilt was in todays Nba the Michael Lebron debate wouldnt even be a thing. It would be Wilt and Jordan. We are talking about the most dominant basketball player the league has ever seen. So much so that they changed all the rules to try and make him less dominant. And Russel is the most dominant winner of all time yet
I would have liked to have seen Shaq match up with Artis Gilmore. He was 7'2" and the second strongest center in history next to Wilt. In my opinion Shaq was more skilled but Artis could play to. One thing is for sure, Shaq would not have been able to back Artis down and dunk on him, Artis was too strong...he would have just moved Shaq out the way, that's how strong Artis was whether you believe it or not.
Jing Qui Agree💯 ARTIS was a MONSTER also in his prime and STRONG. ARTIS was also a STRONG ATHLETIC CENTER.. he can run. Outjump.and evenhas a long wingspan.. I don't think SHAQ can dominate ARTIS.. ARTIS was lean with a BODY MUCSLE like a COLOSSUS💯

I love when Shaq tells his Hakeem stories. His impressions he does is hilarious. I bet that drove him nits that Hakeem just shook him off and laughed and joked with him.
In my opinion: 1. Kareem Abdul Jabbar 2. Hakeem Olajuwon 3. Wilt Chamberlain 4. Shaquille O'Neal 5. David Robinson Very, VERY close comes Bill Russell with his massive 11 Championships.
The game isn't different! If 20 year old Shaq was available today in the NBA draft he'd be the first player taken hands down. Like the mid late 70's we're currently in a weak era for centers. It'll come back around again. I just can't tell you when.

Yes, you hear this when you try to anger someone with an elbow, you know you are mentally defeated...
I'm glad he mentioned Moses. He really is a forgotten great and no other center ever manhandled him.

Iverson said something like that. Like yeah I like that
Nice to see Shaq talking this way serious and with emotion.
With that said it's too difficult to qualify anyone as GOAT, there are too many variables that can't be controlled.
olajuwon is my favorite center, but to say that wilt and russell had mediocre competition is ridiculous, if that was the case, centers like olajuwon, shaq, ewing, etc would not have respect for those two
"Short white guys" How about:
1960-1964:
Dolph Schayes
Bob Pettit
Walt Bellamy
Jerry Lucas
Bill Russell
1965-1968:
Willis Reed
Elvin Hayes
Wes Unseld
Nate Thurmond
1969-1972:
Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Bob Lanier
Artis Gilmore

Great interview with Shaq. I'm hoping one day the next dominate Wilt/Shaq center comes along, finesse centers are awesome but it's amazing to see brute strength centers with finesse skills and speed.
Wilt had finesse
wilt had finesse skills and speed.
God bless your parents shaq they raised a great man of beautiful character that we all love.
Awesome interview! Loved Shaq's thoughts on his parents. Especially is sweet mother. Didn't know that about the Diesel! I loved loved loved Shaq here in Los Angeles. The best Laker 3 peat ever!
Shaq was right he was the last of a dying breed. there are no dominant big men in the NBA, its pathetic when Hibbert is a top 5 center in the league
Yao was the last. Pau Gasol still plays old school big man.
Bynum had the potential to be one of the greatest centers in the NBA history
Much respect to Shaq for giving high regards to great ones that came before him😎
Shaq would have held his own against all of the centers before and after
Great, Great interview. Thanks.
Shake my head at the centres now...lolz
humble shaq. i really like this version of Shaq :)))
His is right on, last of the big great men!
Maybe that's why Kareem is called an intellectual player ... ;)
Shaq is intellectual and smart you are dead wrong. Shaq could buy and sell Kareem and you a million times over.
bnegs521 Maybe you're wrong! Selling does NOT require an intellectual intelligence! :P
I judge the intelligence from the answers Shaq or Kareem give. And there Shaq is sometimes very primitive and not at all eloquent. Kareem however seems to weights his words very carfully. This speaks of a very eloquent and intelligent man! Kareem doesn't even show his religion. He there had chosen a neutral expression also very clever! So you're dead wrong about Shaq, Kareem and me! xD
Oh on your question, why true Centers have gone there is an answer by Kareem: "Big guys want to play basketball like MJ or Dr J." Maybe this proofs my view ...
Good interview Shaq. You are the man!!
It's great that shaq cares about the classics. It makes me like him even more if that is possible.
Wilt is the best centre ever
absolutely!
+Peter Freckles hands down!!
Angad Singh no doubt about it. The numbers don't lie
Vernon Warren vern who is your favorite center thats playing today?
Angad Singh I would have to say Boogie cousins
Bill Russell had such a great knowledge of the game that he was able to win 11 championships. He was the greatest defender and winner in NBA history ever. Russell was a tremendous leaper as well, in fact, in 1956 he was named the 2nd overall in the world at the high jump.
Thank you, very honest from the heart credit to the greats.
man, these are great interviews! how you manage to talk to shaq??!! you must have connections. i'm wondering if you can do more of these, i'd love to know what they were thinking going up against each other.
Sabonis (played well against a prime Shaq, when he was past his prime, overweight and injured) and Walton (could score and defend) need be mentioned. There, I did it.
Injuries kept Walton from playing his best many seasons.
You probably only think that because youre white
He pulling the race card to be real tjats being racist
Spot on with Hakeem as number 1...but I love that he gave Moses some love. The most underrated centers in history simply because he was one of the greatest and yet he never gets talked about.
What a great interview!
Thanks
Patrick Ewing has to be mentioned. Excellent footwork and could shoot.
Allen Kim yes. Unfortunately he didn’t get a ring but he always held his own against other great big men
One the best of all time
@@twocents6951 how about his series against Hakeem in the finals?

Russell averaged 15.6 ppg, 25.3 rpg 45% fg and 47% ft.
Both players were in their prime at this time and going head to head
That's a pretty good Hakeem impression.
great interview :) makes me like shaq even more
i like your list a lot
No player in the history of the NBA has or will be more dominate than Wilt Chamberlain. He played in the most physically tough era, taking an ass kicking day after day.
Unless a new player comes along and dominates the game so much that rules are changed to hinder his game Wilt will always be the GOAT.
Yeah he was so dominant that he got his ass kicked by Bill Russell every year.

Ya a man who was 7'1'' and was in olympics for high jump and sprint and was NCAA champ in those sports and relay.. nah that's nothing lol
Very good points. And don't forget, these days they don't call charging either.
The admiral..David..
one of thebest shaq video's
love this list but Wilt was clearly the best center period.
@@seeya101oliASWHDFIL LOL. I know u didn't just say wilt was a bad shooter. He was one of the pioneers of the fadeaway
Can you imagine walking into a Starbucks, and seeing Russell and Shaq, enjoying a coffee? That would be a great sighting!
"Hhahahaha good elbow brotha" loool this got me
arvydas sabonis gets no respect and he's easily a top 5 all time center.
Prime Sabonis was a bigger and kore athletic version of Jokic today. He would be great in any era.
Sabonis played 6 years in the NBA and only averaged 12 and 7. I'd even take Embiid over Sabonis.
Except that Shaq's teams beat the Knicks Rockets? Ewing and Hakeem did not have HOF help, correct me if I am wrong.
Well, Ewing isn't in the discussion. And Shaq ended up beating Hakeem in the playoffs when Hakeem was at the tail end of his career and Shaq was with the Lakers on that HOF team, yes. What's your point?
Ewing, Shaq and Hakeem did not have HOF help because the NBA was diluted, watered down from having 30 teams with not enough talent. That is my point.
Shaq when he was with Orlando, not when he was with Kobe.
I like the way Shaq talks about the centers that came before him in the NBA.
"being different, then u will be remembered"
Hakeem was amazing. Had footwork like we will never see again from a center. In my opinion the greatest all around center of all time.

+Goztepe2002
Really?
