- Sports fans didn't know where to look during the 2019 Gentlemen's Singles Final and Cricket World Cup Final on 14 July. In an historic collaboration, Wimbledon and the ICC bring you 'One Day In July', a reflection on a day fans of cricket and tennis will never forget..

As a New Zealander and federer fan i was devastated for a solid 2 weeks after this, i think I've still got some ptsd.
Roger's loss was way more devastating.. Hope such results never repeats for any player in any sport.. A better player in all aspects losing a match.. Nz loss is another joke and that poor team had to suffer coz of funny cricket rules in place
Same here Mr Thompson . I was travelling in a plane when both the finals took place . Wanted Federer to win but he certainly was a nightmare for Djokovic that day . Well played Federer . Expecting 2020 Wimbledon to be Federer's 21st or 22nd Grand Slam title.

Even as an England fan I was gutted for the Kiwis (after England winning had sunk in), the saying "couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people" is sincere in this case, still not over Federer not winning his 21st major!

In my entire life i have never see anything like that CRICKET WORLD Cup Final. It was breathtaking. Wimbledon final was also very good. But that England Final was something unbelievable. Btw nice montage made. Well done boys.

Sadly, I wasn't at home watching these two matches on TV on 14 July. I was on a plane going somewhere and the plane took off at right about the time the super over started. Because there was no internet connection in the air, nobody knew who had won. Everbody in the plane was talking about two things: The World Cup Final and the Wimbledon Final. People were predicting what could have happened. A man in the row in front of mine declared that if both Federer and England won, he would treat everybody on the plane to an ice cream when it landed.
About 40 minutes into the flight, the pilot himself announced on the mic or whatever that he had an important announcement to make. Everybody thought there was a problem with the plane and people started to panic and look at each other. And then the pilot said: "After I make the announcement, I request everybody to please stay calm." Now I was starting to worry. The tension in the room was so thick. Everybody was dead silent.
And then he said: "In the World Cup final, England have won the super over. In the Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic has won the fifth-set tiebreak." And everbody exploded. People were jumping out of their seats and screaming. Others were laughing. I was with my family and we were all so excited and happy, even though we were all supporting Federer and New Zealand. It was one of the best moments of my life.

I was at Silverstone watching a great F1 grand prix that day, watched Wimledon final on my phone on the journey back and got home just in time for the super over. Pretty sporty day all round!

As a Federer fan who supported NZ in the finals, for me these memories still hurt a lot 😢😢 Couldn't contol my emotions for almost 2 or 3 weeks... was devastating and heart breaking 😢

What a day it was.

throwing the ball in Ben Stokes bat getting in the way and the ball goes for 4 and to top it off England were given extra runs they shouldn't have got so it shouldn't have even got to a super over and finally England wins a drawn game because they hit more 4s NZ hit more 6s and lost the least wickets which is what they usually go by so blow it aren't the right words more like robbed and bad luck.

I was lucky enough to be at Wimbledon on this magical day, watching the men's singles final on Murray Mound whilst listening to Aggers commentating on the Cricket World Cup final through my earphones. The last two hours were almost unbearable in their intensity.
I believe england should have called new Zealand on to the stand to jointly hold the cup in the spirit of the Gentlemens game. The real winners on that day were the spectators better , as no team on that day was better.

I was one of those sad sacks who was supporting India and Rafael Nadal, both of whom got knocked out in the semifinals in relatively close matches. I vowed not to watch any match, but curiosity got the better of me, and watched the final hour or so of both matches. Glad I did.
It was the day of sports. excellent and incredible.
