Just depends on the job and how much standing. If you put too much pressure on it you can burn through paint or material. The other reason would be creating too many valleys in the paint. With your hand you feel everything and get a super nice consistency on the surface. Honestly if you have questions let me know once you dive into it, love to help if you need it.
