That’s very interesting. This is from the FRA Rule Book: Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules require locomotive engineers to sound train horns between 15 and 20 seconds, but no more than a quarter-mile, in advance of all public grade crossings. Train horns must be sounded in a standardized pattern of two long, one short and one long blasts. Under the FRA mandate, the pattern must be repeated or prolonged until the lead locomotive or lead cab car is in the grade crossing. This rule applies 24 hours a day, even if a crossing is equipped with lights, bells and crossing gates.
There's an older video I've watched from around Christmastime of a train cab ride at night. One poster assumed it was a driver obsessively laying on the horn until others explained this was required by law.

When I was little a dear old man lived down the road who owned a real miniature steam train and ran it on a track just like this in his garden. My brother and I and some of the neighbourhood kids used to go there now and again for a ride on the train around the garden. This brought back fond memories of those times. Thank you 😊

Have had the most stressful day after some devastating news from my Dr this morning. Have decided to have an early night with an hour on TH-cam watching “nothing”. This popped on the screen and can I just say you have a lovely home, garden and such a beautiful setup of a mini Cannonball express. Took me back to childhood and Casey Jones played by Alan Hale. Thank you for posting your train.🚂
Thank you for the wonderful compliment. It makes me feel good that this helped you through a tough time. I truly hope and pray everything works out for you.
I hope you have support in your journey now. I had to send a little love your way. I had serious pneumonia for 5 weeks as a child. I actually left my body for a bit. I am in my 50s now. What I learned is to appreciate the days you do get and leave as little as you can that is unfinished business between you and those that you care about. The most valuable thing you will ever give or receive is love. ❤

To have the train go by in this video at the same time made all of the sounds more realistic. You are absolutely a railroad fanatic that turned it into a passion. This felt like I was riding around in the land of giants with the picnic table and the bench swing high up in the air and the big pots of plants way off in the side. The chairs. It was such an emotional ride. Thank you

It’s one of the cool things about garden railroads that you can put your camera on the train and see what it looks like from a realistic perspective. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
The hard work, artistry, cleverness all a joy to behold. I can't imagine how long such a project took? The scaling is so real, and I kind of like it when, on occasion, you get a reminder that this is really a model - when contrasted with a "giant" flower pot. So well done!

I loved the detail. I even caught the smokestack stain on the rocks above the tracks at the tunnel entrance. Bravo! A nice calming trip that I will play over and over.

I watched it all the way to the end even though I believed that I would exit the video after a minute or two. Everything about it reminded me of how much I love trains. Waving to them, riding them, walking the tracks (safely, of course), visiting train museums, etc. I even was a Plastic Injection Moulder for a model train company, although that was the only thing about trains that I didn’t enjoy. Ha ha! But it was so soothing to watch this video. I ignored the background details and got so engrossed that I was 11 minutes into the video before I realized there was train paraphernalia lining the fence! Wonderful!

I love this! My big brother had a tabletop train set when we were kids and I loved watching it roll through each new set-up. If he'd had access to the whole backyard like this, it would have been magical!
The attention to detail is incredible. The little switch boxes, the bridge, the rocks I mean absolutely incredible!! I grew up 3 houses from the tracks. I spent a lot of time walking on the tracks and when I wanted some alone time I would duck under the bridge. I loved when the train would come and the rumble would go all through your body. I was even dumb enough to hop a few trains. Thanks for a wonderful and safe trip down memory lane for me♥️
I spent twenty years as a Senior Signal Design Engineer and the only Senior Electronics Design Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. I created an automatic balloon track power control for a model train fan who worked with us. THAT was a hair puller. Love this layout. Thanks
The wiring on model railroads can definitely be a little complicated. I bypassed most of this by installing batteries and remote control on my locomotives. I’m looking at trying my hand at signal installation and automatic block control in the future. Thanks for riding along and for the compliment!

I am a nurse and I just finished my 12 hours night shift. I found this video while trying to relax and fall asleep after such a bad night. Finding your video was an amazing blessing. Thank you for helping me find some peace. ❤
I’m so glad our video helped you relax after a rough night as a nurse. My late mother in law and grandmother were nurses so I know a little bit about how tough your job can be. Y’all are much too often taken for granted. Thank you for everything you do in one of the most demanding jobs out there. 😊👍👍👍
When I was little a dear old man lived down the road who owned a real miniature steam train and ran it on a track just like this in his garden. My brother and I and some of the neighbourhood kids used to go there now and again for a ride on the train around the garden. This brought back fond memories of those times. Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed the trip on our garden railroad and it brought back nice memories of your childhood 😃👍👍👍
The work that's gone into this railroad. Immaculate. The set up was amazing. well done Sir.
Thank you very much I appreciate the compliment. And thanks for watching!
The work, from the ballast to the trestles, from the rock cuts to the audio, was amazing. Thank you
P.S. I particularly enjoyed the (seemingly) huge plants, a la Land of the Giants. 😊
Truly Amazing. My dear Dad needs to see this video. Dad worked on the rail for 42 years and enjoyed every minute of it.
@@markmccastle7932I’m glad you enjoyed the ride. My dad also worked on the railroad. He’s gone now but I think he’d ha have gotten a kick out of my railroad. Please show the video to your dad. I’d like to hear what he thinks of it.
This is magic. I can’t imagine the time, energy, expertise, and skill that went into designing and building this railroad! The trestles alone have me in awe! Thank for for the relaxing, smooth, beautiful ride!
Thanks for the compliments! I built the trestles from cedar 2X4s I cut down with my table saw. They were a lot of fun to build. 😃👍👍👍
AWESOME! Thank you for sharing and God bless all!
Thanks for the compliment and for taking the time to ride along on our garden railroad. God Bless 👍👍👍😃
I followed every inch, completely enthralled. What an amazing achievement; thank you so much for sharing this!
You're so welcome! And thank you for the compliment and taking the time to ride along on our garden railroad😃👍👍👍

I've been a dedicated railfan for over 60 years, and I must say this video was very enjoyable to watch from start to finish. The work and detail that went into this is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for the compliment, I’m glad you enjoyed the trip. I to have been a rail fan since I was very young, I’m now 63. Thanks for riding along with us. Subscribe and come back and ride again soon!
Thank you
Thanks for the wonderful comments and compliment😃👍👍👍
My husband was a conductor for SPRR for 21 years. He would have loved to have seen the time & effort that went into creating this delightful trip through the early RR days of old. Thanks for the ride 🚂
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the trip on our garden railroad. And it makes me happy that this video brought back memories of your husband. My dad was a locomotive engineer for the L&N/CSX railroad. I’m sure he would have enjoyed our little railroad also😃👍👍👍
This is the cleanest, neatest and coolest thing ive seen in a long time. Excellent job on constructing this layout.
Thanks for the wonderful comment and for riding along with us. Please like and subscribe and come back for another trip soon!
@@cbt1960Are you an engineer ? Did you build this?
Yes I did build it and I’m one of the engineers. The other engineers are my grandsons 😃. Thanks for riding along!
Need to get that fence pressure washed and stained! It will last 2-3 times as long if you properly maintain it!
Well down here in coastal Alabama a hurricane will blow it down long before it rots away. But thanks for the suggestion😃👍👍👍
❤ If I had such a garden, tracks, train and the person who put this all together, in my life... I would be the "richest" female in the universe. The hours, the effort, the thought, the care, the sheer dedication involved..WOW ...it just blows my mind !!
Thank you so much for sharing this.

A true model railroaders dream….to take a ride on his railroad with a engineers’ view from the cab. Awesome video, and layout !
It’s one of the cool things about garden railroads that you can put your camera on the train and see what it looks like from a realistic perspective. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
i'd highly recommend getting a cheap FPV camera and goggles, the camera is tiny enough to fit in the cab and it works in real-time.
Cool thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try and see if I can find one. That’s a great idea!
The hard work, artistry, cleverness all a joy to behold. I can't imagine how long such a project took? The scaling is so real, and I kind of like it when, on occasion, you get a reminder that this is really a model - when contrasted with a "giant" flower pot. So well done!
Thanks so much for the compliment and thanks for watching!
The only thing missing is a cat
@@johnnyspaceman1Perhaps with the train's cab view showing an approaching train on a parallel track, honking its horn while pulling an enormous cat on a flat cat, who's smiling and enjoying the ride.
The blue chair and the pink flamingo was what caught my attention.
Just after 1:55, a massive blue-roofed car port about 4 cars wide is revealed, with steel pillars to hold the roof up. Then I realise it’s a something much smaller…
That PASSION has not bounds! Great job. So wonderful!
Thank you so much!😃👍👍👍
If I can't have this in my yard, I'm still incredibly happy it exists. So magical!
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the trip on our garden railroad. And your always welcome to visit our backyard and railroad anytime 😃👍👍👍
I was mesmerized throughout the whole ride. Model buildings would have been a distraction. The track and the sounds were all that was needed to give this an authenticity and charm I've never seen with any other model railroad. What a unique accomplishment. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the compliment I’m glad you enjoyed the ride. And thanks for watching!
I didn't even notice there were no model buildings until you pointed it out.
Top notch railroad on every level. Very impressive!! Thank you for the video.
Thank you very much! I appreciate the compliment and thanks for visiting our garden railroad😃👍👍👍
This is the coolest thing! Loved how it sounds the horn when it crosses a path. Beautiful garden. Passengers must love this commute.
Glad you enjoyed it!👍👍👍😃
Thanks for sharing your lovely train setup. It's every grown kids dream.
Thank you for the compliment and for taking the time to ride along on our garden railroad. 😃👍👍👍
I loved the detail. I even caught the smokestack stain on the rocks above the tracks at the tunnel entrance. Bravo! A nice calming trip that I will play over and over.
This was so fun and I'm very impressed with the detail and work it took to put this all together! Thank you so much for the experience!
You are so welcome! And thank you for the wonderful compliment and for taking the red time to ride with us on our railrway!😃👍👍👍
Wow! I cant decide what I like more, the train itself or the beautiful scenery!
Fantastic setup. My Grandad would have loved having onboard footage as it goes around the track. Nice garden by the way too. 🙂
What an absolutely fun trip! Gratitude and awe to the rail engineer, land engineer and conductor. Thank you for a most pleasant journey!

The amount of effort and work put into this project is amazing, not to mention scaling details .Great work.the track even looks like it has a camber.
Thank you for the compliment and for riding along. You’re correct I did build camber into the tracks just as on the real railroads. As you probably already know it helps the trains wheels track better in the curves. Here’s another video you might enjoy 😃👍👍👍

Wonderful!
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment and nice comments! It’s always nice when a fellow railfan enjoys our garden railroad. Thanks for taking the time to ride along.😃👍👍👍

What the heck did I just watch? And why am I smiling so big? I needed this. Thank you!
I’m glad you enjoyed the trip. Thanks for watching!
I can't think of the right word....I am speechless....😊
It is fabulous, a lovely idea, and very clever 😊
Thank you so much 😀👍👍👍
I love this! My big brother had a tabletop train set when we were kids and I loved watching it roll through each new set-up. If he'd had access to the whole backyard like this, it would have been magical!
Glad you enjoyed the ride. And I’m happy it brought back childhood memories of your brothers train set😃👍👍👍
Thanks for a wonderful and safe trip down memory lane for me♥️
I love this! I would love to see animals in a pasture, buildings, cars at the intersection. Very cool
This video is only just starting and I'm already filled with immense joy. Thanks for this!

I am completely and utterly charmed. What a delightful tour. Smiling from ear to ear to ear. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for taking the time to travel on our garden railroad 😃👍👍👍
Wow! Just wow! My Papa loved trains. He had a big setup every Christmas🥰
Your video made me remember those beautiful moments. Gorgeous backyard massive layout. The train track construction and skillful operation is to be respected. What a masterpiece! I enjoyed this randomly recommended vid, thank you!🙏🏽🙌🏽🫶🏽
Utterly beautiful and fantastic 👏 😍 ❤. My, new, favorite thing to enjoy! Love the railroad spike. Love the perfect speed of the journey. I truly hope that unit is large enough to hold a child. What a thrill that would be!!
Watching this made me think of my husband. He was a train and railroad aficionado and one of his favorite places to relax and unwind was at our local train station in Glendale, CA where he would shoot the breeze with the guys from a local train club. He would have loved this! I just wish Kurt were here to watch it with me. Thanks for reviving a very happy memory for me.
It warms my heart to know this brings back memories of your late husband. I appreciate your sharing those memories with us😊

So gorgeous,.. and awesome. There must be lots of love in that work. And to keep the railway free,.. of growing plants and falling leafs..👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰 and for me, it was the most relaxing traine ride.♥️♥️♥️

WoW !! This is amazingly beautiful from the sound of the wheels on the tracks to the beautiful foliage and art deco pots. Even the rocks have that hand placed feel, but with a natural feel. This was absolutely fantastic to watch. The amount of time, work and attention to detail that has gone into constructing this miniature railway is almost beyond belief. I wold love to see this again through a wide angle lens, giving it the impression that it is actually bigger than it is in reality. However, in the meantime, I would just like to say, we’ll done and what an absolute pleasure this was to watch.👍🏻

My brother in law is retired R/R (also a couple of my uncles), a couple yrs ago the "Big Boy" steam engine came to our town and we went to see and get photos...so fun. The entire 'train' theme is so amazing, historical, and really was/is the backbone of our world.
