      Jay Anderson Any series them Bad Boy Pistons are involved in is always ugly. Their way to beat you is to remove your nail polish. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail, but that's their ammo.

    Damn man 11 years later and this still hurts. Really wished my Pistons would have repeated, I believe they would be looked at differently in the long run. Remember watching this game as a kid. But i cant really be mad becuase we played our heart out and never gave up. It all came down to one game and i feel we got outplayed by one of the best teams in Nba history. Respect for the spurs

      +Rj Macready That Pistons team was so good. If that Game 7 was played in Detroit, the Pistons likely take it. Both teams were great and so evenly matched, and both played team ball. I think Home Court Advantage won that series. Regardless, it was an awesome series throughout, and I have a ton of respect for that Pistons squad. Tough y'all had to lose, but I know what it's like to lose a heartbreaking Finals too. As a Spurs fan, even though we got redemption in 2014, the 2013 Finals will forever haunt me.

    San Antonio's starting five is so perfect once you think about it. The paint is COMPLETELY open for Duncan and Parker to operate since Horry and Bowen are dwelling around the three point line. Manu Ginobli still had that explosive step that made him so special. On defense Bowen guards their best player while Ginobli can play quick help defense. Duncan was the initial wall and knew that Horry, who still had a little bounce then, would came for secondary help. Greg Pop. really knows what he is doing.

    I'm a Warriors fan but this is my favorite finals outside of the one we just won. I remember both teams everyone could ball. Ginobli, Bowen, Duncan, Parker, Horry.
    R.Wallace, B.Wallace, Hamilton, Billups, Prince. This is maybe the best 5 on 5 finals I can remember not just Kobe vs Howard or LeBron vs Durant, they had 10 guys that played lights out in that era and every point was like striking gold with those two defenses.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Gray Fullbuster Duncan was just absolutely manhandled by Ben Wallace in Games 3-4 @ Detroit, for he is the greatest power forward ever, but not a beast like many think. He never quit though, and eventually got the help he needed from his supporting cast starting in Game 5, but the defenses were great both ways in this series, other than Sheed leaving Horry all alone in overtime of Game 5, when he had no reason to double team against Ginobili. He got overanxious for a second, and that cost his team the series. Nobody was going to beat San Antonio two straight times @ The Alamo.

      Spurs had nazr Brent Barry as well...pistons had mcdyess and Lindsey hunter ...it was a 7 vs 7 finals....literally everyone else was useless ...other than Devin browns 1 ft being the difference in game 5 in a gamr where both teams played 7 guys ...the spurs won because they snuck in an 8th for 4 seemingly pointless minutes but they proved to be the difference in the game..not sure why Arroyo and else wasn't used more by coach brown...spurs got something out of udrih and brown...

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +HeatFanForLife That's how much worse the NBA has gotten. It was already so much worse in 2005 than 1995, when it was already nowhere near its peak quality ever, which was about 1985. Free agency, poor coaching & guys leaving school early have worsened the overall quality of play top-to-bottom. In the 50s, 60s & 70s, they just weren't nearly as athletic as they could be yet, but by the 80s they were.

    • @gintamafan7006
      @gintamafan7006 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Arsen Akopyan No that's a myth. Talent was diluted in the 90's. The 90's pales in comparison to the 2000's because of the fact that people don't wanna realize it's overrated.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gintamafan700 Are you a prisoner of the moment?

    • @vengkong8344
      @vengkong8344 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Gintamafan700 Overrated? You are definitely a prisoner of the moment. Guys are coming out too early and that's what's WRONG with the game today. Look at the Sixers. There whole starting line up is 20 and under. These guys should be in college not the NBA. Was that happening in the league 20 years ago? NO!! Guys came out early yes, but there were veterans on the team starting ahead of them. The lack of fundamentals today is so obvious as big men don't even know how to POST anymore and use proper footwork. Free throw shooting is a lost art.......PG's can't even shoot anymore when that use to be automatic. Hakeem, David Robinson, young Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, prime Shaq, Mourning, Smits, Ewing etc... would make these young guys wet their beds. The NBA just cares about the FLASH, not the fundamentals anymore. Also, the Commissioner is going to change the hack a "shaq" rules because guys can't shoot free throws and you're going to say the 90's are overrated to the 2000's! GTFOH. Athletically are players today on par with the 90's? Probably....Fundamentally? Hell to the NO! It's not even close.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gnev Gnok And it's not just centers & power forwards not knowing how to post up. It's also 2-guards not knowing how to spot up, except for maybe a Kyle Korver. Power forwards not understanding the art of low post defense. Small forwards not knowing how to cut, use screens & back picks, the lost art of the bank shot from close-to-mid range, except for like a Dwyane Wade or Tim Duncan. Point guards not making guys around them better, except for like a Chris Paul, JJ Barea, Rajon Rondo, Ricky Rubio, and then everyone else is only focus on scoring. Real basketball is just very diluted right now, cause the coaching stinks, except for like a Gregg Popovich, they come out of college too early like you said, and everybody just wants to be Michael Jordan instead of doing what they do best, for it's only like a Kobe Bryant or Vince Carter type that actually have the talent set, physical attributes and overall makeup to play an MJ-like game.

    • @NateIII11
      @NateIII11 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Honestly this was the last gasp of the Pistons to win a Championship because Flip Saunders was a calm coach that let Pistons do what they wanted to do from 05-06 season to 07-08 season but the way he had coached his team is different from Larry Brown because Brown wanted the tempo slowed down, played dominant dominant defense, have everyone on the floor be a threat at scoring and to some of the Pistons players they really didn't like that style of play but was okay with it because it was winning basketball but once Flip took over they was having fun playing basketball, felt no pressure or was being motivated and was like oh were the Big Bad Pistons. All that led em to never going back to the NBA Finals and being a sad franchise to this day! Hopefully Stan Van Gundy will turn it around

    As a lifelong Detroit Pistons fan this game hurt, and hurt a lot! I waited along time to watch this or any clip of this game 7. The sheer magnitude of what's on the line, an NBA World Championship, it's extremely emotional for all involved. Tip your hat to The Spurs because they made the plays in the 4th quarter to seal the deal. I love our "Goin To Work" Bunch of Blue Collar Studs, they have a lot to be proud about in what they accomplished, just fell a little short on this one in the end. A lot of people don't realize how much everything has to go right to be in position to win a championship, and for this group to go to back-to-back Finals and almost repeat is well respected and much loved in Detroit.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Castulo Sanchez He still can't. It was his role players hitting clutch shots & making clutch plays for him for all 5 of his championships. But he's a more complete power forward than Karl Malone because of his back-to-the-basket moves, and Charles Barkley, because of how he anchors his team on both ends of the floor. Barkley's the only one of the three that's clutch, but Duncan's been in the best situation the most often of the three, and is a total team-player in practice as well as games.

      Your username says 94 and you were in 5th grade when this series happened so I'm assuming you're the same age as me (22). And bruh, I felt literally, word for word, the exact way for the longest time. I'm from Oakland and I "liked" the Warriors but didn't follow them adamantly until 2007 even though I went to games at Oracle because I grew up a few blocks away from it. But those 2000's Pistons with Billups, Rip, Tay, Sheed, Ben, Dice, even Hunter and Maxiell, were my childhood. I was so obsessed with them especially after 2K5 had Ben on the cover and I played the shit outta that game - the first NBA game I truly played the fuck out of, I had NBA live 2004 but that game was trash. But like you, I hated the Spurs until 2012 when I saw how Duncan completely transformed his game and they became the funnest team to watch and I started rooting for him to win.

They were the better team in the 4th qtr of a game 7. That is how close this series was. There was a couple questionable calls down the stretch in the final 7 minutes of the game that only a home team would get, and they got em. If detroit would have taken care of business in game 5 at home, there might have not been a game 7. It was a great series tho, glad i got to watch it. Congrats to the san antonio spurs

This may have been the series that really exposed the Pistons lack of a superstar. Had no one really to give the rock to in crunch time. Defense will only get you so far. But if you cant score points.

      @DJ Tune-up Chauncey still wasnt a star tho. We had a lot of jump shooters on our team. Rasheed for whatever reason didnt bang down in the post nearly enough. Sometimes u need someone to put the rock on the floor and get to the rim. Like Ginobli was torching us with. The Spurs could match us defensively AND had scorers

    • @Riqsuav1
      @Riqsuav1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Arsen Akopyan Exactly. The spurs looked to their big 3 in clutch moments. Chauncey took like 5-6 shots. In a game 7!! I disagree tho about the Pistons overachieving. They won a title, nearly back to back, and went to the conf finals 6 straight years. They just needed a superstar. i think they wouldve won more. Now their strength obviously was their defense, but they didnt "overachieve". U can call them an exception to the rule, but not overachievers. U see now tho if u dont have a superstar, u aint winning no title. League has changed.

    • @arsonhakobyan
      @arsonhakobyan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elrique Suave You're wrong, cause this was true back in the day too. The 04' Pistons were an exception to the rule for any era. Even the 94' Houston Rockets had one legitimately true superstar in Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon, though besides #34, they were just a collection of very good role players. But because they all played so great together, plus Hakeem was so special, the Rockets were able to win a championship w/ only one superstar. But if you look even into past eras, most teams that won the championship had multiple superstars. They usually had good role players too, but they had at least two superstars in almost every case. The 2nd best player on the 94' Rockets was Otis My Man Thorpe who fit in perfectly w/ that team, brought great tenacity every single night, but was a 2nd tier power forward in the NBA. The 04' Pistons were literally loaded w/ guys like that.
