That was not prime shaq 😂 that was Big Mac shaq at that time, this what started the beef between Kobe and Shaq and I ain’t a Kobe fan but he did had the right to call him out being overweight
For the series, Shaq scored 26.6 ppg on 63% shooting. What Pistons did was deny the ball to Shaq, and they did it as a team. The guy who got really shutdown was Kobe, 17% shooting from the threes is really bad.
the problem was all the internal fights between the lakers. kobe and shaq beef, karl and kobe beef. pistons played full court defense which dint let shaq setup on offense and control tempo. instead kobe just kept trying to ball hog. they coulda easily beat the pistons. doesnt take away how good they were tho but lakers were clearly the better team
Ben defended Shaq well, but you can't blame Shaq for the series loss. Look at the most important game 4, final score 88-80, no stats padding, every point counts. Shaq had 36 points on 76% shooting, and 20 rebounds. What more can you ask him? Is this the stats of someone who got shut down by individual defense? Shaq got shut down by Pistons team defense, not individual defense.
Yeah but the Pistons shut all the role players down so the Los Angeles only had Shaq as a reliable scoring option but you can't win a series only scoring in the post

When I first started watching basketball, I didn't know any names or talents in the league, but I was drawn to Wallace for his look and defensive prowess. For a short period in the middle of the 2000s he was truly an iconic player.
I remember watching this series at 11 years old. Not only was Ben Wallace one of the most pivotal players on the floor, he was simultaneously also the most entertaining in this series. 31 now and I still don’t get tired of watching him block shots and throw in putback dunks.
The whole starting 5 should be in the HoF because they epitomized team work which translated to numerous conference finals, and after the X factor Rasheed Wallace came on a championship against a stacked Lakers team.
People forget that they used to call the 03-04 Lakers the most stacked team of all time back then. And man the Pistons ripped them apart. I love MJ's Bulls, Payton's Sonics and the 13/14 Spurs, but this Pistons team is my go to team if I had to choose. Any day, any night against anybody.
I lived in Orlando during this time and Ben was my favorite player. I hated he left. What he could do on a dime was insane. Probably my favorite player from this era.
Throw back!!! I remember watching the play offs this year for the first time. That block on Shaq (which is goaltending now) is a memory that made me LOVE basketball
Very very underrated just because he had no offense. This man was undersized for his position but had defense similar to Bill Russell's. He was athletic. He was a man u would not mess with. He exposed shaq in the 2004 finals and forced him to leave LA. He went to 6 ECF in a row. He's a certified hall of famer.
wweecwwcwtnanba1928 didnt expose shit, shaq was a monster but he did better than most and this team mightve been the best defensive team ever assembled.
exposed Shaq? Huh? Shaq, while limited due to Wallace's great effort in denying him the ball on the low post, still put up huge numbers in this series. Who the Pistons really frustrated was Kobe. He shot like 17% from 3 in the finals.
wweecwwcwtnanba1928 hes no bill russell thats for sure he was more like alonzo mourning without a jump shot and wes unseld .and one in one game you think he exposed shaq lol.karl malone gpt injured in that series and the rest of the lakers got locked down defensively while shaq did his part in that finals .and lets get something clear he didnt force shaq out of la la land kobes ego and wanting to lead the team ad well as laker management wanting to move into a new direction forced shaq diesal out of los angeles .but back to big ben he was the strongest smallest center in nba history period .
ben did not make the 07 or 08 east finals ..by then he was on other teams and washed....he made 4 east finals with the pistons from 03-06 during a era where the east on offense was ass so his d stood out...hes a borderline hall of famer
Majority of the series Ben guarded Shaq by himself which took away what the Lakers did in the past titles that is playing 4 on 5 cause every team doubled Shaq.. Detroit should've swept them
The coach said in an interview they didn't want to foul Kobe, because he believed in the Pistons defence. Kobe made a 3 pointer thus wining very narrowingly 1 game..... Can't blame the coach, but still a great series. Nearly swept the Lakers in the finals is still not many teams can say.
OneIsMajor/Squalidflunky39 yeah but the 4 DPOY’s, the 4 all star appearances, blocks leader, 2x rebounding leader, and the ring more than makes up for it. plus the all defensive teams he has
Tayshaun Prince's arms were too long to shoot over. He had the longest arms on that squad. You don't realize it until you see their championship picture. Kobe was non existent for most of this series. I still can't believe a Lake Show team got their asses handed to them the way they did.
I wasn't much of a sports fan when I was young but I loved basketball and football. Being from Michigan I loved Ben wallace he was my favorite player. The wallace era is the best era of basketball. In My eyes.
God this took me back right into 04. It was such a pleasure watching these Pistons play. 84ppg avg against. The game won't be the same as that anymore.
i was in a restaurant in LA during this game and everyone was mad at Kobe, my family was vacationing there and we were rooting for the Pistons and everyone was mad at us giving us the stink eye LOL
Ben Wallace never destroyed Shaq. Nobody did. İn this series: Shaq: 26.6 ppg 10.8 rpg 1.6 apg 0.4 spg 0.6 bpg with 63.1% at age 31 as a best player on his team. Ben Wallace: 10.8 ppg 13.6 rpg 1.4 apg 1.8 spg 1.0 bpg with 47.8% FG at age 29 as a 4th best player on his team. The reason why Lakers lost 2004 Finals is totally Kobe. Kobe: 22.6 ppg 2.8 rpg 4.4 apg 1.8 spg 0.6 bpg with 38.1% FG and 17.4% 3p and 92.0% FT at age 25 and played 46.2 minutes per game Chauncey Billups: 21.0 ppg 3.2 rpg 5.2 apg 1.2 spg 0.0 bpg with 50.9% FG and 47.1% 3p and 92.9% FT and played 38.7 minutes per game Chauncey Billups schooled Kobe in this series, so Chauncey is the MVP.
Ben Wallace should have been Finals MVP. Billups was the high scorer but Ben Wallace's dominant defense and rebounding was the clear difference factor.
I saw Ben take a charge on Iverson in the backcourt; One on one. Iverson was arguably the quickest guy in the nba. Iverson had no complaints. Helped him to his feet and respected the greatness of Ben Wallace then.

Congratulations Big Ben for the 2021 Hall of Fame 💪🏾
Yessssss
Ben Wallace is more Fearless will you talk about Dennis Rodman both of them are just simply amazing
ppl didn’t know how many times this dude dominated every game. one of the centers I’ll always respect
When I first started watching basketball, I didn't know any names or talents in the league, but I was drawn to Wallace for his look and defensive prowess. For a short period in the middle of the 2000s he was truly an iconic player.
I dont know if this makes sense but to me he was And1 but on the defensive side
I don’t think any nba fan would dislike these pistons, especially ben and sheed.
Every time I hear that Gong it pumps me up.
He's a certified hall of famer.
wweecwwcwtnanba1928 didnt expose shit, shaq was a monster but he did better than most and this team mightve been the best defensive team ever assembled.
shaq averaged 27 and 11 this series...
exposed Shaq?
Wow, almost 20 years ago....Remembered like it was yesterday
One of my all time faves. Him and Vince Carter forever underrated
one of the greatest finals upset ive ever witnessed. the underdogs won! felt so good!
Dudes such a smart and composed basketball player
#3 was the most exciting number to watch in the 00's
Iverson, Wade, Wallace, Marbury, Francis, CP
Majority of the series Ben guarded Shaq by himself which took away what the Lakers did in the past titles that is playing 4 on 5 cause every team doubled Shaq.. Detroit should've swept them
The coach said in an interview they didn't want to foul Kobe, because he believed in the Pistons defence.
Kobe made a 3 pointer thus wining very narrowingly 1 game.....
Can't blame the coach, but still a great series. Nearly swept the Lakers in the finals is still not many teams can say.
Five game sweep...
Big Ben, gotta love him. One of the best sports years of my life.
Such a humble dude
Damn miss this guy
I love when Ben goaltended shaq he may have got 2 points but the message was clear we ain’t scared of u
Wow I literally remember sitting here in Detroit watching this game. Throwback
Ben Wallace was so strong. Most jacked dude I’ve ever seen in the NBA
He looks scarier than shaq
Very underrated. Should be a #HOF. He locked down shaq
hassan haulcy Wallace>shaq
@@CREED-yt4jc lolllll no
hassan haulcy Shaq averaged 27 ppg on 63% shooting this series. How was he locked down ? Lol
So, locking down a good center doesn't always make you a HOF
OneIsMajor/Squalidflunky39 yeah but the 4 DPOY’s, the 4 all star appearances, blocks leader, 2x rebounding leader, and the ring more than makes up for it. plus the all defensive teams he has
This is the NBA I know love and miss!!
Prince had Kobe on 🔒 also. But it was their strategy against the Lakers that was genius.
verdes25 no, the way the executed that strategy, as a team, is the real genius.
The rape case locked Kobe down couldn't pay attention to detail because he scared of washing other men's drawers for 10 cents a day
Tayshaun Prince's arms were too long to shoot over. He had the longest arms on that squad. You don't realize it until you see their championship picture. Kobe was non existent for most of this series. I still can't believe a Lake Show team got their asses handed to them the way they did.
It was Shaq’s team so the loss was mostly on him
two wallace, prince, billups and hamilton this pistons line up is legit scary
I wasn't much of a sports fan when I was young but I loved basketball and football. Being from Michigan I loved Ben wallace he was my favorite player. The wallace era is the best era of basketball. In My eyes.
This dude would thrive even in the modern NBA he was so skilled defensively
Lol he would straight up bully people in this modern NBA.
He would probably average 5 blocks in this era
his height was listed at 6’9 but in reality he was around 6’7 that just makes what he did in his career even more impressive
What a legendary team!
2004 Pistons 🏆
God this took me back right into 04. It was such a pleasure watching these Pistons play. 84ppg avg against. The game won't be the same as that anymore.
Congrats on his induction. First undrafted player in NBA history to be inducted into the HOF. Defensive beast!!!
Why do u say he closer to 6’7 is that without shoes or?
Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman and Wes Unseld (RIP) the best undersized big men of all time, they will never be replaced.
The Bill Russell of the 2000s
No
Marshall D. Teach center defensively, yes he was
Never really thought about that, comparison but that's actually pretty good tbh
Tyler Riley /
CPGoat #3 nigga im light years ahead he has 1 I have 11 hahahaha no comparison
WALLACE WAS A DEFENSIVE MONSTER!!!
Ben was the reason I wanted to hone my defense skills, and Gary Payton and Ron Artest aswell, 👍🏻
Ben wallace undrafted got many defensive player of year
Diamond in rough
i was in a restaurant in LA during this game and everyone was mad at Kobe, my family was vacationing there and we were rooting for the Pistons and everyone was mad at us giving us the stink eye LOL
Lakers fans that day are now Warriors fans
Rated Zigs bandwagons😂
4browsing 😭😭🤣🤣kobe was never better than Jordan
@4browsing dude arguing with a Kobe fan is like arguing to a brick wall
Big Ben was an absolute beast in this game and gave Detroit they're third chip 💪💯👍
Big Ben took this series over. Shouldve gotten mvp over Chauncey imo
Chauncey was solid the whole play-offs and kept consistent for the finals, he deserved MVP. No doubt Big Ben played lights out this game.
Ben Wallace never destroyed Shaq. Nobody did. İn this series:
Shaq: 26.6 ppg 10.8 rpg 1.6 apg 0.4 spg 0.6 bpg with 63.1% at age 31 as a best player on his team.
Ben Wallace: 10.8 ppg 13.6 rpg 1.4 apg 1.8 spg 1.0 bpg with 47.8% FG at age 29 as a 4th best player on his team.
The reason why Lakers lost 2004 Finals is totally Kobe.
Kobe: 22.6 ppg 2.8 rpg 4.4 apg 1.8 spg 0.6 bpg with 38.1% FG and 17.4% 3p and 92.0% FT at age 25 and played 46.2 minutes per game
Chauncey Billups: 21.0 ppg 3.2 rpg 5.2 apg 1.2 spg 0.0 bpg with 50.9% FG and 47.1% 3p and 92.9% FT and played 38.7 minutes per game
Chauncey Billups schooled Kobe in this series, so Chauncey is the MVP.
@@lw9904 shaq was 33
@@MoorishZombie Shaq was 31 years old in 2004. Do your research.
@@lw9904 bitch hush he actually was 32 goofy
I remember watching this... he went off. I miss the old NBA
Ben Wallace should have been Finals MVP. Billups was the high scorer but Ben Wallace's dominant defense and rebounding was the clear difference factor.
Aww man I really miss watching Stu call games R.I.P.
Man i remember this. My 04 Pistons never get the love like other championship teams, best defensive team ever
Alexander Coleman 90s Bad Boy Piston’s were alot tougher. 94 Rockets had to go 7 games against the Knicks. But this 04 team is up there.
Jordan, Pippen, Rodman,Harper in the same starting 5...
@@StayAKTV tough but dirty. This 04 Pistons is straightly about defense and team play
Wish I could watch ben play when I was younger. I was born at the wrong time
3:37 The Ben Wallace bell gets me EVERY TIME
Legendary shit
Ben Wallace absolutely murdered Shaq even on the stats:
*Shaq (35 Minutes):*
- 20 Points (7-13 shooting)
- 8 Rebounds
- 1 Assist
- 1 Steal
- 0 Blocks
*Ben Wallace (41 Minutes):*
- 18 Points (8-13 Shooting)
- 22 Rebounds
- 1 Assist
- 3 Steals
- 1 Block (Really 2 tbh even though it was a goal tend but murdered the diesel)
I saw Ben take a charge on Iverson in the backcourt; One on one. Iverson was arguably the quickest guy in the nba. Iverson had no complaints. Helped him to his feet and respected the greatness of Ben Wallace then.
Trabalho duro, dedicação, foco! Excelente performance do Big Ben.
I really appreciate no one narrating, just the action.
Stuart Scott
You are missed so much
R.I.P. Stuart Scott
Rip. Stewart Scott & Kobe
I miss the old nba. The aura, the announcers, the commercials. It will never be duplicated.
this guy literally could guard 1 through 5 and in today's small ball league he would get tonnes of boards and would be a great center
I remember this like it was Yesterday wow amazing to see this.
if only LeBron got this version of big ben
Right? He had washed up Ben in '09 and washed up Shaq in '10
@HelloFellowHaters GOAT james should pick deandre with some trade to beat the warriors and win in 2017,he has chosen kyle choker instead
Imagine if he got this ben wallace and next year picked up prime shaq o god the strength of this lineup
SanctumGaming Q if lebron got prime ben or shaq that would be great
Dashing_Davey dumbass, he’s the reason your pathetic franchise is going to the playoffs. Have some respect you fucking jabroni
