Robert horry is the sole reason why the spurs won this game in the clutch. And surprisingly Tim Duncan is the reason why they went into overtime in the first place.

They overplayed sheed that season so he made a boneheaded mistake...should of kept okur...a big reason why they won in 04 was they had corliss elden and okur helping out sheed and ben...sure they got mcdyess to spell the loss of corliss and a little bit okur but with elden older they rellied a lot more on sheed and he was clearly tired by this point...their big men wearing on teams got them a ring the year before...should of kept okur

You can’t assume that Detroit would have won G6 in SA if Detroit had won G5. Focus, schemes, matchups, player minutes may have been altered for both teams had the previous game had a different result. Yes, the path of a championship would have been tougher for SA but possible. Also, there has NEVER been an NBA finals where the home team won each game.

I must be feeling really masochistic today, watching this. It still hurts my heart to this day, seeing this ending. The Pistons went and won the very next game in San Antonio, and should have been back to back champions, for the second time in franchise history. I’ll never know what Rasheed was thinking about there. He made two mistakes on that play. The first, was not being right up on Horry, trying to make the inbounds pass more difficult, and the second was leaving him wide, open to shoot, after he passed it in. At that point in his career, Horry was already famous for making clutch shots. His nickname was Big Shot Bob for crying out loud! He was the last guy you wanted taking an uncontested shot and that situation. I was sooooo mad at Sheed. I still get a little salty even now, when I think about it. The next season, they had an even better year, but I think not having Larry Brown coaching them anymore is part of what was eventually their downfall in the playoffs. What could have, and should have been. Oh well.

Rasheed Wallace could have gotten a technical for calling a time out with no timeouts left, if you want to get picky. You can make it good argument that Rip Hamilton was fouled in the last seconds of overtime and should have gotten 2 free throws the ending of game is very similar to game 6 of the 2013 NBA finals.

People need to remember that Timmy was playing on two bad ankles the whole series. First ankle got injured late in the season and never really got to 100% because he had to have a go at the playoffs. second ankle was injured in game 6 of the 2nd round against the Sonics in which he played through and hit the game winner. Yet, we never heard TD make an excuse even if at some points of the series he was "struggling" for his standards. His stat line though for the series playing on two bad ankles are 20.6 ppg, 14.1 rpg, 2.1 bpgand 2.4 apg...he struggled shooting only 41% but again, we can attribute that to the bad ankles. Makes sense now that at the end of the game he wasn't able to put much into the putback attempt which he missed.

The MVP of that Finals should have been Bruce Bowen.
Bowen, not known for shooting, made some big three pointers in that series, but he played the best defense against Rip Hamilton in the Pistons run from 2002-2008.
In that span, I watched Rip wear out Reggie Miller twice, Ron Arrest, Kerry Kittles, D Wade, Kobe and Michael Redd and none had a answer for Rip moving without the ball.
Against SA, Bowen worked Rip so much that Rip was missing layups, short jumpers and FTs.
Stopping Rip was the key, since he was Detroit's most consistent player year after year in the playoffs.

@@jmr3178 That's revisionist. Duncan averaged 20 and 14 against the grittiest front-court of the era and hit his free throws in Game 7, where he was involved in all the closeout plays to pull out the championship.

I miss tis team almost as much as The Bad Boys!! lived in Missouri during this winning season and the NBA wasn't a priority..still isn't. This is the first time I've seen this footage Thanks for the share!!!

Rasheed Wallace was awful defensively here late. Just kept leaving Robert Horry.

I was only 15 during this NBA Finals😁it was also the time I started idolizing the playing style of Richard Hamilton. Since then, I wore jersey no. 32😊

I was amazed at how poorly Tim Duncan played down the stretch in that crucial game 5. Chauncey could have sealed it for Detroit but missed a couple of (contested) layups.

That Detroit team was and still is the hardest team I'd ever seen the Spurs play. It was literally the past two champions facing each other for the '05 finals and it goes the distance...it doesn't get any better.
