Every motorcycle I’ve ever owned has had a solo seat because my wife (who I love dearly) has never been interested in going for a ride. What happened when she was very young some knuckle head scared her and from that day to present she is afraid of motorcycles. I’ve had alot of bikes and never once have I had an accident or laid my bike down, I have been scared a few times by other motorists. Oh well.
76 years old my wife didn't feel comfortable riding double . I have 2 motorcycles bought a Can Am Spider RT , together again . Nice to be able to go out to eat or a rip on the BRP .
Wife will ride dirt bikes, quads and everything else but refuses to be on the road. She went for a slow ride around the block one time and had zero interest and a lot of fear. The kids are a completely different story. When he was 8, my oldest son wanted to ride the 2400 miles from Michigan to Texas and back on the back of my sportbike instead of flying in for my nieces wedding. 😂
It’s always struck me that women regard riding on the back with a guy the same way that guys see going out on expensive diner dates. Just part of the courting process. As soon as the ring’s are on the fingers the charade is no longer necessary. In fact in many cases women will turn around and issue the old “The bike goes, or I go” ultimatum. A woman who genuinely enjoys your company on a bike is a rare treasure. Half a life time ago (I’m 66 now) I knew such a lady. Life events took us in separate directions. But to this day, I often still find myself imagining conversations we might be having while out riding on my own.
Great subject, I'm really lucky as my wife of 34 years has got her own bike and rides it her bike fairly regularly, but she now doesn't like riding on the back of my bike.
This is actually a great topic. I would love for the wife to enjoy riding with me more. She has her own bike even and rarely rides a few times yr. For her she just don't like gearing up. And being in the heat. I do agree a red light to red light just getting out of town or trying to commute to work in traffic will cook ya. But, for sure sharing your experience together is always better. If even a short trip for cup of java or a cold brew.
we are at the second half and went with me (as a pillion and enjoyed it) through Europe on the Triumph T100 bonneville and later on the BMW R1200GS, but now... èèh... yes, maybe when you first get used to the motorcycle again, maybe... WHATT??? 😵💫ahhh yeah right, absolutely encouriging eeh Maybe thoug, one day.... she whispers the 10magic words again. In the meanwhile I keep practicing for just in case 😎
My wife and I same thing,and now we take separate vacations. It’s probably better that way. Once in awhile she suggests I get more wives, I have gf’s but draw the line there😂

My wife quit riding too. She said she never wants to ride again. But she wants to keep her helmet.

Mine has had multiple back surgeries and had some vertebrae fused and is too afraid to ride anymore. Makes vacations a bit more expensive.
Best of both worlds for me. I have two bikes but also like to go pillion with the other half 😊
