    I've used a similar set up before but those "snap clamps" are the trick

    I have a 5x8 utility trailer that I did almost the same thing. Mine probably takes a few more minutes to assemble and disassemble. But same concept and I can let it set at the campsite while I run to the store with my car for beer.

    Your material utilization has a great deal of potential for customization. I really like the usage of your snap-on horizontal supports. I may follow this design but extended out, past the tailgate. Thank you for sharing.

    Fill the pipe with sand and bend the pipe with a heat gun, cut it in half and use fittings to put it together. Magnets would hold it against the trick and you could make a door flap.

    A great idea you could adapt/refine in a million ways to suit your own style and needs. Heck, you could cut a stove jack in it and put a camping wood stove in there.

    I did something similar back in 1985. I used furring strips to make the frame and used a 2 piece army pup tent to drape over it. I could drive up and down the back roads where we were camping for opening weekend of trout season with the whole thing set up in the bed of my 1984 Toyota 4x4.

    I used your idea on a small flatbed trailer. It worked like a charm. Next time I plan to keep both ends open for ventilation and drape some mosquito netting across the ends.

    • @harrymills2770
      @harrymills2770 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. Just clip it to the tarp bow, like he did the tarp, itself. Or enclose it with a smaller tarp or just the tag end of a much bigger tarp.

  • @crystalcorbin1232
    @crystalcorbin1232 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could also but a longer tarp and have an awning with extra polls of course.😊

  • @peterpiper487
    @peterpiper487 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For the 2 longer pieces of pvc, you could cut them and use pvc connectors to connect them. That way, you could break the entire thing down without any of the pvc sticking out the back of the truck.

    Some of the comments on here are ridiculously stupid.
    I guess some people are not that intelligent to figure out that you put the tarp on the outside of the bed (on all 3 sides) to keep the rain out.
    This idea is great if your limited on space, or money.

    This is the coolest DIY deal I have seen in a long time. This would save a lot of money on hotel Bill's

    When it rains I'm sure water is going to get in between the cab and tent into the load bin. I would say the tarp should go over the cab.

    We were making these years ago when the clamps were first made (we were using T-pieces). You can also drill long augers, like shipping augers, into the ground and slip the poles over the ends of the augets to make extensions.

    You think the 2 bent sections would still work if you used mid length connectors on them so they coukd be taken apart to shorten the packed length? I need to try this.

    • @CircoInnovationsInc
      @CircoInnovationsInc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NWA Adventures, thank you for your interest in our PVC design. On your question regarding cutting the arches, one of the ways we have thought of doing it is, after cutting the pipe in half heat it up and bend it to the right arch for your design. After that you could couple the pipes with item #183-F. By pre-bending the pipe you may be able to still use this design by taking some of the tension away and will not have to glue the pipe.
      ( PVCbendit.com ) is a website were one can buy a PVC pipe bender.

    • @robertstewart1254
      @robertstewart1254 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CircoInnovationsInc Before seeing this question and your answer, I was also considering a two-piece arch. I agree, the tension of the flexed pipe may cause the to spring out of the center connector. However, as a possible solution, tapping an eye bolt through each of the upper ends of the halves, and then use a short piece of paracord or even short bungies to keep them from pulling out of the connector. Anyway, just an idea.
