    Son of a gun! I’ve watched countless videos on rigs like this (to get ideas), and yours is the best I’ve seen yet! And that’s a gem of a rare topper find! I’d love to have one with high-rise like that and all the windows! Great video

    This is one of the better and most thought out truck camper set ups I’ve seen. You found a great way to reuse a lot of stuff and do it creatively and cost effectively. I see a lot of people with just a bunch of overpriced junk they bought just for to be able to show it off. This set up is for you and I like that about it. Very functional.

      @@geenote well its great set up, I'm guessing by the aircon that where you live is hot. Same here really hot all year round, but more humid in our "summer" months (we only have two seasons, wet and dry) just thought if you can have aircon, and its great set up BTW. You can have a fridge. I use Engels, which are pretty much considered the best in terms of reliability and toughness, but there are plenty of cheap 12 v fridges available now. You can even use it as a freezer, and make ice for your coolers as well as storing frozen goods. Any way, nice camp set up mate.

      @@davebarratrooper3835 Thanks Dave! It's nice to have four seasons here. It can get hot and humid in the summer and pretty darn cold at times in the winter. I've checked into it and would love to have a really nice fridge. I usually camp no more than a week or less at a time so the coolers work out good for now. Thanks for the advice on Engel brand - I will check them out.

    We have a similar set up having dragged a travel trailer for years. We recently added a 12 volt compressor refrigerator that's been a game changer for us as we don't deal with ice, melted water or soggy food anymore. Its runs on a separate deep cycle battery that is solar charged with a 100 watt panel on the truck. I also have a propane hot water heater that is set up with a changing tent for showers when in remote areas.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds nice. I also have a pull behind that I rarely use now. I have considered solar and a fridge like that for the truck shell. Thanks for the information - you got me thinking!

    • @philc.9280

      @@geenoteI'm copying and pasting a response to someone pushing those expensive Jackery's that you can do yourself for much cheaper . The 12 volt refrigerators are much cheaper now. I bought a no brand Zokop 52 qt on Ebay for $275 with free shipping. They are the same build as all the other Chinese refrigerators. Now my wife and I can bring nicer foods like frozen shrimp and fish and even ice cream as it goes down to minus 13 degrees. : " I'm one of your budget minded viewers and made one of those solar generators for less than $200. That Jackery explorer sells for $999. I used a large Camco battery box ($13), cut a hole for an all in one panel with dual USB port, cigarette socket , and voltmeter ($14 ) , 12 volt deep cycle AGM battery ($100), PMW charge controller ($10), 400 watt modified sine wave inverter ($39). You can get a windy nation 100 watt glass rigid panel that weighs only 16 lbs for $75 with free shipping. There is almost nothing that pricey jackery can do that my box won't. Lithium batteries of course are much lighter than lead acid batteries granted. It runs my 12 volt compressor refrigerator and charges anything via the USB ports. The AC inverter is nice for small appliances that need 110 volts. Most of these parts are from eBay, battery and case from Walmart. The box is not much bigger than your jackery but weighs a lot more (45 lbs vs 22 lbs). Sorry I had to weigh in when I see such an expensive item that was pretty easy to make yourself"

      @geenote  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geenote No problem. I'm finding myself doing so much TH-cam watching as we are still shelter in place here in California. You probably only have one location on the flat part of the cab since your topper is curved. If you don't want to drill into the truck there are several solar video's on using VHB tape with eternabond tape on the brackets to mount the panel without drilling holes in the roof. Its nice not having to run a generator most of the time unless there are cloudy days with no sun.

      It's a pretty cool shell made in the 80's. The windows are nice but I have to cover them up in hot sunny weather to keep the heat down. Thanks!

  • @tazmod7272
    @tazmod7272 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice setup. An idea I had was to take out the window to the truck and take out the window to the canopy so you have access to the truck cab or truck bed. Now, some kind of cover would have to be made and attached around the canopy and truck cab to keep out the elements. I think people use to use a partial blown up inner tube. I haven’t gotten much farther than thinking about it. I guess the Chevy Avalanche was close to what I was thinking.

    • @geenote
      @geenote  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This truck shell originally didn't have a window next to the cab - only a rubber gasket that sealed against the truck cab. A plexiglass window was added to this shell. I wish my truck had a sliding window on the back cab. Thank you for commenting.

    I have the old truck that was a new 20 years ago when I bought it in a MUCH DIFFERENT WORLD.. and I have a top 8 foot 3/4 ton bed and I hve only a heavy half ton..who would have thought FORD would make 2 different bed sizes the same year...its just taller and wider in the FRONT back fit perfectly. I love your interior setup I want to make mine a year round "residence" for if/when that time comes Im really too old for this but guys like you are going to make it an easier transition to mobile "existence"... though in a few years I won't be surprised when laws are passed to prevent "vagrancy" as it used to be called 100 years ago THE OWNERS want their RENT money and they passed laws starting about 40 years ago to PREVENT BUILDING YOUR OWN HOME on YOUR OWN LAND for the good of our fellow man ;) Thanks again!
