We scattered straw on the floor of our chicken coop (it was a cement floor as well), and they seemed to love it - plus it made cleaning it much, much easier and faster. We had old apple boxes we mounted on the wall for laying nests, then trimmed them down so they were about half the size and put more up. Our coop had 2 halves (a false wall in the middle) and on the other side had poles about 3 feet off the ground for them to roost on. Chickens are pretty easy to please 🙂

The chickens will not complain. Especially when the snow starts blowing across the plains there. Seal up the wind holes and they will be relatively happy. If not, post a photo of Colonel Sanders in there for inspiration. LOL Things are looking great!! Good for you all.

It is a beautiful home. A good idea to repurpose an old building as a chicken coup. Once you have completed the landscaping, the house and the coup are going to look even better and the passage of time will only improve the look even further as the grass, bushes and flowers that you plant come into their own.

Install some floor joist to connect the sides of the coop then a slight overhang won't matter. Recycle some old wood flooring to top it off. House looks great!

The red handled carpet seam roller swivels so the teeth turn toward each other and pull the carpet together. He is using the seam iron backwards. It is made for the center fin to stay aligned down the cut and lay the carpet low as you move it along. Some peoples kids.

I’m very happy for you and your family. You guys are so deserving. The average person doesn’t realize the hours a farmer puts in every day, every week and every year. That chicken house looks so cool, and I know that it needs to fit in with the brand new house it sits next to, but please don't cover up all that beautiful history. You could use the second chicken house for supplies and take the best shingles from both sheds and maybe do shingles on 1 or 2 of the walls (possibly on the side the chickens have their outdoor run?) I love to see people keeping old buildings, makes me sad to see all the old barns being torn down in western Idaho. We put are chickens in part of the barn, got build a bigger run for them this fall. Great video

Congratulations, been there and its an extremely long process. Best part is the end. Feel bad for Hollywood, he had to witness your build and is just starting. At least he has you for backup.
What he didn't say about putting the seams together on the carpet. The hot iron. Needs to melt the glue. Meaning. If you go too fast. That will not melt the glue fully. Then just do what he says. It's really not that hard. The hardest part is kicking the carpet. Stretching it. He has a really fun job. Amazing home.

Very nice, your family will enjoy this home for generations. Theirs something special about that new home echo, similar to a babies first cry. Edit: the houses echo goes away when you move in but the crying in one form or another goes on for only 18yrs if your lucky.:)
Nice house and coop. Nicer coop than we have. I put down a treated board around the base if going on cement, anchor it then you can screw the building to the treated wood. It will look great when you get it sided and roof to match your home. Hope the kids love their new home. Stay safe and healthy.
Look up a product called Cinclips for your undermount sink. They are molded plastic struts that screw into the cabinet wall and put upward pressure on the lip of the sink to keep it from coming loose. Cheap insurance, especially if you are running a garbage disposal, they have been known to rattle the adhesive loose.
Congrats. House has some nice touches to it. Looks great. I know its a pain to build a house, you must be happy now that the building phase is complete.
