Thanks! Hopefully it’ll go pretty quickly, first challenge will be getting the bonnet right.

Wow, that's the basis for a really nice car, well done on finding it, my old mk3 Spit was rotten for the first 12 inches from the bottom upwards whereas yours looks in far better shape. Definitely looking forward to the ongoing resto on it. I must change my photo on here as the 7 left me today , just the Herald again which as you know it being brought back to life too. Thanks for the vids and a super project you have there. 👍

My Spitfire was similar once all the bodgery had been removed… So looking forward to working on something in better condition. It’s always hard letting one go… your herald is looking set to be a great one though.

Centre dash is definitely modified. Was originally two dials (fuel & temp) with the outer rocker switches vertical. Yours looks well executed. I'd keep it. Thanks for the shot of the spare wheel puck. I didn't know they were that big! ;-) Ollie

Yeah the dash section doesn’t look all that great close up. Still got plenty of time to think about that sort of thing though! Let me know if some dimensions of the wheel support pucks would help you (it’ll be a while as they’re all stashed away right now).

@@redfoxclassics How are the wheel pucks mounted please? I've got some rubber door stops doing duty for now, but might revisit this in the future, so no rush :-)

I found no evidence of them being mounted, I assumed they were just held down by the wheel being fixed on top of them. I'll let you know if I discover any different though! Just realised you might be able to answer a question I have. If you know you've got the original / correct gear in your wiper motor, could you tell me what the sweep angle marked on it is? There'll be a number in degrees on the face of the gear.

@@redfoxclassics Hi, my gear says "100" like yours. I don't know if it's all original, but I think so: nothing that needed fixing had been touched!. My gearbox says "43 73" where yours has "10 73", so that might not be a date code?? As for the rest of it: the wiper spindles are "wide set" like yours; I tentatively counted 30 teeth on my v. greasy wheelbox (maybe 32? not 22 anyway); the wipers do seem to sweep 100 degrees; the RH wiper arm is less kinked than the other, and parks at that jaunty angle so that it meets the area swept by the other wiper; the LH wiper parks horizontal resting on the screen rubber, and sweeps nicely into the top left corner of the screen with 11" blades. Works well enough for 1970 ;-) cheers, Ollie

Thanks for all that! 43 73 means the motor was manufactured in the 43rd week of 1973 (end of October). So, it's not your original motor. Slightly frustrating coincidence there though as it still doesn't tell us if the gear is the right one or not. The TR6, which used the same windscreen frame, has a 115 degree gear which is why I'm suspicious of a 100 degree one being fitted. I know this is minutia, but I do like to know what the right answer is :D

Would love a mk2 GT6, the best one, roundtail looks but with rotoflex. Good luck it, will certainly keep you busy for a while. Bonnet rust looks tricky, I think I’d send it away for chemical dipping, you really need to guarantee it’ has gone before painting, especially with a white car.

    • @redfoxclassics

Yes I was thinking along the same lines. The body has a lot of surface rust too so I do want to be very sure that’s all very much removed!
