      Those scammers with the same profile pic as your one asking to be contacted on Telegram are doing that on like 10 different yt channels with different content. But the text from them is always the same

      I Definitely want to see those cars running again! Especially because there are a ton of detailing yt channels out there and a lot of let's get this car running again yt channels but non of them do both on the same channel so... If you want to stand out here's your chance!

      Normal placement for the rear view mirror on a convertable that age.
      Look at a Corvette from 1953 (first year) to 1962 for instance.

    Since you asked, here is my humble opinion. You guys have a great chemistry together. I love these junkyard rescue vids. Something going from total loss to driving again. It would be nice to see a total restoration. A bit of welding and few new parts this car could be saved. I know that this involves extensive work and funds. It would be totally worth it seeing it drive again.

    • @jpurcha
      @jpurcha ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Where I live, the provincial government auto insurance is making it more difficult to get older cars on the road even if body sections were fixed by welding in new panels. They do not want to see any repairs on rocker panels. This takes a lot of older cars off the road.

      Some 30 years ago, I restored a Frogeye Sprite that was not as far-gone as this one. They were cute cars, but the cost in both time and money usually cannot compensate the fact that they were very badly designed and made. Best thing to do with most cars like this is to do what's being done here. Clean up as far as you can to try to make what's left last a bit longer, but getting them to roadworthy condition is very likely to cost far too much - more than they are worth.

    Personally, I love the "clean it up and get it running" vids. I'm into British cars so this one is especially fun! The engine in you car is an Austin "A" series 948cc 4 cylinder with dual SU carburators mated to a 4 speed transmission. That generation Sprite shared underpinnings with the MG midget, hence the resemblence to the Midget.

  • @bruuuh_boi
    @bruuuh_boi ปีที่แล้ว +4

    That is quite a natural evolution of your channel and content on it, where whe've got attached to your personalities as well alongside the detailing and restoration. My vote for keeping up on adding more of yourselves and making cars running in addition to detailing

  • @adrianhoneybill8591
    @adrianhoneybill8591 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Sprite looks to be a MkII with a 948cc BMC 'A' series engine. My first car was one of these - it was not in the best condition, however I did replace the engine with a 1098cc tuned lump. Great memories and fun for a teenager!!

  • @abesplenthe_mad_bugsy5879
    @abesplenthe_mad_bugsy5879 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You asked about the engine: If it's early enough, it might be a 948. Or a 1098cc. Doubt it's a 1275 (these were later Sprites and MG Midgets--after 1966 or so). Engine bay looks original and complete! Whoever gets this car will have some nice parts. Or the British Motor Heritage makes body panels for these little British cars. Great video and good luck to whoever gets this diamond in the rough!

    I think it’s a real shame to junk a car, especially an extremely rare Austin Healy, as it’s history and numbers and identification are forever lost. Were the money available, a heritage bodyshell could have given the car a new lease of life, preserving its story and history for years to come. Failing that, new sills, floorpans, etc are easily available from the MG Owners club and many other suppliers.

    The actual fact that you do all this work and detailing for free is more than what anyone else on any channel is willing to do.. Because if you really think about it, detailing these old time cars from an era where they used to be popular is still better than nothing. The funds alone to try and restore these vehicles is not a cheap task. Because you'd have to do a lot of research on where to find the parts to even get these cars running. Since you don't see them on the road.
    So the fact you do the work in bringing life into them again with the TLC you give, is still amazing to watch.

    I combined a 1960 and a 1964 midget to make one runner many years ago. Engines are like a fine watch. 4 speed tranny are a blast to shift. Lever shocks require more maintenance. Positive earth electrical system is a challenge. Loved it as an everyday runner a couple of years. I’d come and get it in a heartbeat.

    I'm not a Healey guy, and really don't know my way around the weaknesses of the later model Sprites, but superficially there's an awful lot of good metal there and with the right attitude and maybe more money than you'd ever get back, this could be a really fun restoration. The chrome looks remarkably good for a 50+ year car.

    I think you guys can restore this Austin Healy Spirit. My brother Karl had one in the 1960s. He had just graduated high school. He and another graduate were celebrating graduation & wrecked on a turn. He was pinned under the Sprite while the friend was thrown clear with few injuries. My brother suffered a head injury, hip & ankle injuries & was hospitalized for months with lifelong complications requiring many surgeries. My family was devastated. He eventually married & lived a comfortable life in Maryland. I have very fond & loving memories of my brother and of the Austin Healy also. He was so proud of it. It was red

Same engine as the classic mini here in the UK however sightly made over to go faster. This would make a really cool 24 hours of lemons race car! See if you can make it run. With any luck the engine isn’t stuck, if it is that isn’t typically a show stopper. Pull the plugs now and start soaking the cylinders with ATF or Marvel Mystery Oil. Once it spins over, you only need spark and fuel. Good video!

    I acquired a sprite in worse condition that this and had it fully restored to new condition. It is possible to do it as all parts are available. It just depends how far you are prepared to go and how much you are prepared to put into it. Usually it requires more than the current market value , but these are great fun cars and will be worth the effort.
    This body shell does look repairable. Inner and outer sills (rockers) are quite cheap, as are the floor pans and boot floor. The engine is a BMC A series and they are quite reliable units. It is definitely a viable restoration. There are repair panels for the wings all available from the MG Owners club or from Moss.

    Am from the UK 🇬🇧 and 61 I had a Austin Healey in the 80s it needed a lot of work but wow so brilliant but a big smile 😊😊 on my face when driving it a fully Restored one could be worth about $60.000 so you should think about it before you give it away 😢 it would make good videos on restoring it 😮

    I personally like that you guys fix some stuff. Most detailers don’t go that extra step to make their finished product better.

    Worthy of a full restoration, plus more of you guys, more of getting the cars going too.

    My first car was a 64 Sprite I bought in 69. It was a ton of fun. Until winter. I'd love to see this back on the road. A good body man using a welder and sheet metal could do the job. Lots of money could put it back in running order. As far as the engine, it was about 1100 cc and close to 60 HP. The side draft carbs sucked. In more ways than one. It was actually a good engine for the light weight of the car, mine topped out at 86 MPH. Not quick or fast, but plenty fast for such a small, light car with an 18 year old kid at the wheel.

    First time watching, balance between car work and your input is a great balance. Keep it up.

    Brought back memories... I had a 1963 AH Sprite that actually spent more time in the shop than on the road. I think that the mechanic may have been taking me for a ride. Anyway, from what I remember, those Stromberg carburetors were very sensitive and frequently needed adjustment. While we did have a lot of fun driving it (when we could), we had much more fun after we traded it for a 1964 1/2 Mustang convertible.

    I literally just bought one of these out of a closing salvage yard a few months back, sitting much the same way this one was, that was sitting there for 40 years. Same color and all. I'm saving that one, as it was a California car, that is close to rust free, and there's a lot of parts here I could use.

    I got a black '62 AH Sprite for free that had been abandoned in a friend's yard. That was in 1973 so was only 11 years old and very solid. Any British car sitting out in the elements like this one was bound to be a junker.

    Been watching your channel a year and a half or so now. Just really like the 2 of you, now 3, and the approach you have always had. Great that you got a shop now. Video and editing has changed a bit, most recently after the colab with the Florida guy, MAD detailing, and it’s real good. Barn finds are really popular these days, but any true revitalization of a car is interesting. Great progress and improvement overall with your channel. Many of your details have special and personal stories, and honestly, a real innovative thing to do with a channel like this would be follow-ups of the cars detailed. All of them, or as many as possible. I think you are on to something with the Volvo and the new guy. All these rescued cars you did, where did they go, and where are they now? That would be a truly unique channel if they all had follow-ups moving forward.

    That's a 1963 Sprite.... no roll up windows. A true British Roadster... I had 5 of them back in the 80's

    We’re in New Zealand and had exactly the same deal with this car’s cousin. We were give a 65 Mg Midget, abandoned for 16 years, if we could extract and restore it. Great project. Nearly complete. Very cool little cars.
