  • Short video about the Triumph GT6 MK2 that we have for sale. Price: 29.000 Euro
    More pictures at classix.se
The Triumph GT6 model started back in 1966 with the GT6 MK1. In July 1968 came the GT6 MK2 and then final version MK3 was built from October 1970 until 1973 when it was over. They all had the same six-cylinder engine. The power increased over the years, but also the weight. The designer was Giovanni Michelotti who had first designed the Triumph Spitfire models.
Exterior: This Triumph GT6 MK2 had a restoration 25+ years ago and it still looks great today. It was at that time built also for “track day” use. A roll cage was fitted. The car has a lower harder suspension and a set of cool time-period correct wheels fitted with new tyres up front. Underneath it is nice and clean. No corrosion or thick rust protection. As you can see, the bumpers were removed during the restoration to lighten the load.
Interior: In this Triumph GT6 MK2 1969, the interior is very original and in good condition. Only the roll bar reminds you that this car means business. A smaller steering wheel is fitted, and it is perhaps not so pretty, but it feels very good when you are driving. In other words, this car is all about driving, not riding.
Engine: So, instead of the original 2l Triumph GT6 engine here the 2.5l from a TR6 has been fitted together with headers and a free flow exhaust. Triple Webers will throw in as much fuel as they possibly can to give you that ultimate rush when this car takes off. At the moment, the car does not have a brake booster, but I am thinking of fitting one. The GT6 weigh around 800kg and has around 170hp.
History and maintenance: The Triumph GT MK2 was registered for the first time in Sweden on May 20th 1969. In 1979, it came to the second owner, and then just after one year to the third. In 1982, it came to the fourth owner, and he decided to restore the Triumph and make it so he could also take it to the track if he wanted to. But shortly after the restoration, family came along, and the car was left sitting in the heated garage until I was lucky enough to find it in April 2021. It was love at first sight, but she certainly did not love me back. It did start when I got it home, but the fuel pump shortly failed and the battery had seen better days.
    Repairs during 2021/2022/2023
New fuel pump and one Weber carburettor replaced
The radiator had a complete rebuild and fitted with an electric fan
Clutch and brake cylinders replaced including slave
Brake hoses, brake cylinders for the rear wheels, rebuild callipers upfront
New water pump and all water hoses replaced
    New high torque starter
    New head gasket and studs
    New Toyo tires upfront
    New clutch and release bearing
New fiberglass cover for the gearbox (inside)
    New fuel tank sending unit
    Part, new exhaust
Technical inspection in Sweden May 2024
This car gives me a great thrill every time I drive it. It is such a cool little car. However, it is a Triumph, and I don’t think a car like this will ever be finished! There will always be things that you can improve and replace. And, I guess that is part of the journey with a car like this.

The high compression 2L is an impressive motor good power in the low end and delivers power right to the top end.

It's Canadian slang for a derogatory term describing an enlisted airman from the air base (not an officer) by local yokel slack jawed townsfolk. My father would have kicked my arse for using such a disrespectful townie (local) term, as he started his national service in 51' as a British private in the Black Watch before being plucked out for officer candidacy and returned to the Highland Light Infantry as a second lieutenant, staying right through the Suez insurgency. He ended as a light Colonel in the Canadian Airforce as acting chief of military intelligence, but always with a healthy respect for all ranks...not like his long haired wastril teenage street racing sons.@@philtucker1224

I've owned a few of these, as well as half a dozen TR6 (with injection and also carbs) as well as two E-Types. The Triumph 2.5 is good for around 150BHP and the E-Type 250BHP The E-Types would always blow the Triumphs into the dust, so I can't imagine this car as cute as it is, would be any match for an E-Type. The E-type is good for about 150MPH your car would be unstable at that speed! As it's just too small/light/flimsy for anything over 100MPH. It would need to be radically re-built to deal with high speeds over 100MPH It looks nice though, but no match for an E-Type, they are two different things!

Looks like the Shelby Wheels I have on mine. I ran Triple webbers for many years on my 2 liter, but switched back to rebuilt strombergs. The Webbers were fun, but gas mileage was horrible and I could never get it to run smoothly at lower rpms. Had mine for 50 years now, and find the Strombergs are fine for Putzing around. Ive got SAH headers, CV joint conversion, lowered front, trunionless kit from Rimmer with the thicker stub axels, along with slotted rotors.
Maybe not as good as a 240Z or Alfa in its day, but still a Great Car and parts availability plentiful and many still on the road, which is more than you can say for its competition. Never plan to let mine go !

When I saw my first E-type at age 18 I was disappointed, especially as I was, and still am, a Jaguar fan. I couldn't see what the fuss was about, it looked odd to me. Triumphs and especially the TR5 and GT6 looked much better, went like hell and have fantastic soundtracks.

To re-engage, switch a Suzuki swift over to manual and keep it in second gear whilst driving around town :) The gear ration and noise is about the same as the Spitfire :) With a Bourg Warner overdrive switch on the knob, it would be the same :)

@@philtucker1224 I stand corrected thank you. There was a sports car shop at the top of Khyber Pass, Auckland. In that shop there were red DE Tomaso Pant eras, Green E-Types, Purple and yellow Stags, white Dolomites, GT6, MGs, yellow Lotus Super7 's and often the motors would be switched out by enthusiasts. I would see some amazing jobs for back then. I was 19. The sale staff would let me sit in the cars as I felt their lives. I bought a MkiV Spitfire when I was 20. What a car! What a beautiful car. I had a total of 6 GT-6's and 8 Spitfires during the 1980's. I even put in a turbocharged TR-6 engine in one with a Warner T-50 5 speed transmission, Chevy clutch and flywheel. Even being very careful to never jerk the clutch between shifts, the engine was so powerful that it just ate up read ends. I had a Jag rear end but never narrowed and installed it. Mine was a 1968 without Rotoflex axles. I only have a Spitfire left. It must grind on perfectionists as the only thing Spitfire is the body. It's in storage now for over a decade. Does it sound like a Spitfire? It's Chevy V-6 powered and 4 wheel drive.......Holy smokes a 2007 video! Anyway, I love your GT-6. It sounds great!

ooh. sounds good. 30 thou euros.... or is that 29. my English cars story... just for fun - an Mg a at the time like 6 years old ... driving home from college on the 4 lane - the steering wheel came off in my hands. yes. just luck I went into a field rather than bridge support. took 15 min to drill a hole for cotter pin , apparently too difficult for English engineering. absolute truth.
then I had a '76 TR 6 which was, odd. very very nice in some ways but the engine. I blame early pollution controls. one fun aspect - it would run for hours no problem at higher type speeds , then - slow down (stop and go ) it would run on like one cylinder. - never figured that out. so. going thru Holland tunnel into NYC , of course started limping. a place ya don't want yer car to die.
