I'm a British F1 fan, and like all other Brits, we see Finland as the home of the super talented racing drivers. Theyve dominated world rally, produced the most exciting F1 drivers, and they produce the coolest people going. Just look at Kimi, the most loved driver ever.
The amount of lobbying power in F1 Britan has, 20 titles is small amount...not long ago 90% of grid were british teams. Some of them even favoured british drivers over others. So considering how many finland drivers get chance to be in F1 compared to british drivers, finland is legendary.
@@flipflop4396 lets be fair, 90% of the teams are still British. Merc might fly a german flag but the car is made in Brackley by a British team of mechanics. Same for every damn car in the paddock save for Ferrari.
Finland isn't exactly "not known for their race car drivers". In almost any international motorsport, there's been a slew of Finns racing and winning. For example Finland was the undisputed number one home of WRC champions before the domination of the two Sebastiens taking the top number of championships to France. And even now, Finland has overwhelmingly the biggest number of champions. BTW, talking about Loeb and Ogier, what's up with the trend of long lasting champions in F1 and especially WRC in the last 20 years? In F1 it's been mostly Schumacher, Vettel and Hamilton, and in WRC almost exclusively Loeb and Ogier. It's almost as if the two sports have gone stale and the same drivers are practically meant to win multiple times, instead of having to seriously compete for their titles most of the time.
Sad indeed. I'm Brazilian and grew up a Piquet fan and will take that to my grave. Check all the "shit Piquet says " compilations here on youtube. We Brazilians are not patriotic at all we just love to win by proxy. Give us a winning team or athlete and we'll be there with our flag for it.
@@fabiospzn From what I've heard that's because he wasn't much of a "patriot", which during the dictatorship in power on his racing years was pretty bad.
I was staying with an older English couple in Belgium once. I noticed a photo of the wife sitting in James Hunt’s lap during his time in F1. When I asked her about it, she just smiled and said, “I knew him once for four days.”
He kind of nailed it with driving on ice. Driving at the limit of grip on ice is basically the same as doing it on tarmac - the only difference is that everything happens faster on tarmac. There’s also a culture of cheap auto racing classes with a low barrier of entry. Folk racing has a maximum cost limit on the cars involved. Any car can be bought out for about 1000e after a race, preventing people from pouring money into them. If you want to race, you can.
@@markuskoivisto All Finns I know also have an air of stoicism about them. Even the more hyperactive and extroverted. I can't quite explain it but I suppose it is sisu. What surprises me is EVERY Finn I've met holds that quality, it's like their language demands it or something I really think this is what makes them unconventionally good at quick thinking tasks, they are not only exceptional drivers but also extraordinary in the world of esports
Learning to drive in the USA and most other countries, you're taught to avoid skids at all costs and never break traction. Most people have no idea how to recover from, much less control or initiate a skid. Not only does the Finnish driver test require power slides, many Finnish drivers routinely break traction in non panic fashion on the way to the store or work. There's good reason it's called the Finnish Flick.
And invented so many stuff that we use today in F1, plus he was his own engineer since he worked as a car mechanic until he was 18 and he's the only Brazilian to come from a poor background, sleeping inside his F1 car in the garage because he didn't have money to rent a hotel room in the circuit.

@@matiasfj yeah, Salazar didn't respect boundaries and deserved the punch. Also, Senna punched Irvine too. I mean... Webber than became very good friends with Vettel and Ric even takes rides with Verstappen. I mean... What happens in the race stays in the race.
Finland is also second in Rally champions, having taken home 14 titles with just 7 drivers 8 of those titles were earned by two drivers, 4 each. Love your channel, but you mentioned great British drivers without listing Jimmy Clark or Sir Stirling Moss. Also, Mercedes didn't "hit a slump after the mid-1950s, they withdrew from all racing for over 30 years after a Mercedes car killed over 80 spectators at LeMans in 1955.
Interlagos is the best track. It has 3 passing points, it mixes curves and high velocity and it is in Brazil. I had the opportunity to attend the event 4 times.
I am Brazilian and a point that you mentioned is reality! Really access to motorsport in general, as a hobby or career is very difficult, but the Brazilian does not leave his passion for cars aside! And talking about this subject, you could research about the Brazilian automotive scene, i guarantee you that here it is different from everything already seen! Even with enormous difficulty, we have many projects and professionals of excellent level! You should probably know Fueltech, a Brazilian company that is already making some success in the USA with his ECU / VCU, they are an example of how the Brazilian is passionate about cars!
he did compare Brazil to Germany and the U.K. and in terms of passion for Motorsport or cars in General, and their respective car scenes they are defenatelly down on their luck, out of the top countries it is the least accesible for the General population, but they still have produced some of the best drivers which is more than comendable.
Finnish champions are not overly surprising when you look at how many times Finns have won World Rally Championships with Tommi Makkinen and Juha Kankinnen and many others. If you go back through all the record books and base champions on where each driver had their official residence at the time of winning, then Monaco (Monte Carlo) would be Second.
If you watch clips of that crash it was horrific. 80 people died which actually shocks me because it seems like more died as that cars whole front end went flying through the crowd on fire.
Exactly. They never lose. They won Le Mans 1989 on their first time back pretty much. (OK it was Sauber-Mercedes) 10 years on they quit again after their CLRs flew off the track. Mercedes either win in motorsport; or they fly off the circuit
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Finns held more WRC titles than every other nation combined, although I believe France now has the most championships thanks to two guys named Sébastien.

In Finland driving long stretches on icy backroads is still very common for everyone, and if one is any interested in driving, no matter if it is RWD, FWD or AWD car, it is really common we give it all to drive as fast (but still safe) as we reasonably can all the time. Because of the long distances. I've seen my mother in law and my friends mother powersliding in winter coditions like it's not a big deal just because of the difficult conditions. They also didn’t win the constructors championship until 2014 since it didn’t exist in 1955 it was only drivers championship at the time
Finland isn't exactly "not known for their race car drivers".
Funny, I know Finland because of two sports, hockey, and auto sport. Ok, also because I love the country and go there quite a lot.

Finland is super successful in all forms of auto racing. There's definitely something special there creating great drivers.
What surprises me is EVERY Finn I've met holds that quality, it's like their language demands it or something

Learning to drive in the USA and most other countries, you're taught to avoid skids at all costs and never break traction. Juan Manuel Fangio: Hold my 5 championships
Everyone still acts like he never existed..
Champions, not championships...
Cmon, pay attention
They build formula one engines just round the corner from my house, and jet engines and nuclear sub reactors, engineering capital of the world and most people wouldn't of ever heard of the place!
The guy who invented the train is from here and the jet engine, and the automated factory, oh and the industrial revolution!
The lack of disrespect to Felipe Massa not being mentioned in the Brazil section is astronomical
Massa never won a championship
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING, but NO decides move on to the next topic smh, I mean yeah he never won a championship but he's still a legend 41 podiums
Also, just realised almost really no mention of drivers who won championships before the 80s
@@danbowyer8703 he was this close of being a world champion
Neither was 3x world Champion Nelson Piquet. 😜

@@lordsofafan372 thankfully!
I had to rewind that bit because i didn't understand who he was talking about "Boootass"
Amazing video, but you guys forgot to mention Nelson Piquet 3x Brazilian World Champion, which gives Brazil 8 World championships. Also, Fittipaldi was the owner of a F1 team called Copersucar (I don't remember when)
Copersucar had quite a nice history, and also revealed Keke Rosberg to F1
Also fittipaldi really paved the way for brazillian to make it into F1, before him it was unherd of
1975-1982.
I guess we have just an ideal combination of shitty (read that as challenging) roads and shitty (read that as challenging) cars, latter especially because of hard taxation of new cars.
Nelson piquet has three championships where is his licence from since he wasn't referred in the video
justo ele que e um dos meus favoritos !!
They did refer to 3 Brazilian world champions, but they only mentioned 2 of them by name.
He’s kinda forgettable ngl
Whoever runs the official F1 TH-cam channel saw the comments for this video and released "Top 10 Moments Nelson Piquet of Brilliance." They may have fixed the title by the time you watch it.
