For some reason and saw that he “Foght” a car company. Instead of “bought” and I was confused and then got really disappointed not seeing him in the ring with a car.... like in Street fighter level.
Puma also produced from 1974 to 1987 the GTB, a fiber glass body front engine coupe which was powered by a 6cylinder 250 c.i Chevrolet engine. Was kinda fancy at the time! It's biggest rival was the Santa Matilde SM 4.1, which was powered by the same engine and was fiber made as well. Both great (and expensive) cars at the time!
A little comment from Brazil here. My uncle owns one of the old rwd Puma GTs, which he inherited from my grandfather that knew someone from Puma, I can see why the company was dying after a while. Thanks for sharing our Brazilian history. You guys are the best ❤️
so good to see a brazilian car being recognized
3:10 Just a correction, the engine showed on the image isn't the DKW engine used in the Malzonis. It's the VW one. Brazil loves you, Donut! Thanks a lot for made a video of the Puma.
“To understand how this all started, we have to go back to the birth of Jesus”
Brasil had many crazy cars back then. Miura, Bianco, Gurgel (they made an electric car in the 80's). Puma also had one model with a chevy six cylinder engine. Great to see part of our automotive history here.
As a Brazilian, I must say that... I’m laughing so hard of the Al Fassi name because, in portuguese, the name sounds like “lettuce” (alface)! LOL
Also, it’s so nice watching one of my fav YT channels talking about my country! Love u, guys!
Proud to see Dons talking about one of our most amazing cars, the Puma's. My father is a car collector and he had each car model from Puma. Really beautiful and stylish cars.
As a 17 year old Brazilian i really like It!
WELCOME TO BRAZIL
@donutmedia as a Brazilian, I really enjoyed this history of one of our humble domestic manufacturers. But in the end of this video was an information error: the company based in south africa, despite havign past relationship with Brazilian puma, is totally diferent of our brand and have nothing to do with puma's rebirth efforts here in Brazil. They have got the rights to produce old puma models, like puma GT and GTS, but have nothing to do with the development of the new GT LUMIMARI model, not even with the new Brazilian Brand itself. But I have to congratulate you guys for this entire video. Your researches about our begining in automotive industry, our most famous sports car manufacturer and How It all ended was very very accurate. Congratulations guys! No Wonder you are one of the(If not THE) most influential automotive channels in the world. With the greetings of a brazilian car enthusiast! Thank you Very much!!!
Do el "Torino" argentinian legendary car. Competed on the 24hs of Lemans
I've known about the existence of the Puma but was taken by surprise of Muhammad Ali's connection, bless him for trying.
Suggestion for future video: how the Ford Maverick became popular in Latin America because, unlike here, you could get one with a V8.
Well... The Ford Maverick was a fiasco here in Brazil
@@luccaandrade7460 how so? in terms of sales or quality?
@@MaverickFor44 Both of them I think... The Ford maverick was too small and tight compared to others cars like the Chevy Opala and Dodge Dart, also it had a fame of being slower than the rivals and overheating. The sales were weak and the Maverick was discontinued in 1979 when it's rival continued in production until 1992.
@@MaverickFor44 The ford maverick It just became to be popular in the early 2000's. Today you need to afford lots of money to buy one in good conditions ( Around BRL: 180.000).
As a brasilian, I didn’t know this awesome story. I’m a big fan of Pumas and really wanted to buy one but I thought it would be too crazy to own. Great job, guys.
God i love when people try to pronounce words in Portuguese 😂
I’m a Brazilian and actually learned more from this video than years of being a car enthusiast
Rest In Peace, the greatest boxer in history.
I'm brazilian, and I'm very happy to see a part of the history of my country in donut media. This video is fantastic.
Tip: say A-Raul-ca-ri-a (read this letter by letter)
Fun fact: just like the Puma, the latest Renault Twingo also switched from an FF to RR (RMR) layout
Hey guys! Never thought my favorite channel would ever talk about Puma!
And thats just the tip of the iceberg... Brazil had a number of specialty automakers back in the 60s all through the 90s, mostly due to banning imports. Models like the Gurgel Carajás ("car-uh-jazz") and its curious "diff locking" mechanism: a handbrake lever to each rear wheel!
There was even a talking car, the Miura X8! AND WITH POPpopPOPpopPOP UP N DOWN HEADLIGHTS!
hey brazilians fans that likes donut , " e aeee suave ? " - From São Paulo / Sp.

Do a b2b on pre-war straight 8 engines.
Great to see Brazil getting love from Donut Media! I'm Brazilian and didn't even know about that story (Puma cars were great though). The at 5:08 was called Wariant btw! And Al Fasse sounds like Alface, which translates to Lettuce :P
For some reason and saw that he “Foght” a car company. Instead of “bought” and I was confused and then got really disappointed not seeing him in the ring with a car.... like in Street fighter level.
Im pretty aware of Puma, but never heard this story before. Crazy that Donut is the one who brought me it!
Mohammed Al Fassi part was pretty wild, i'd pay to see a movie about his eccentric life
Im so glad for this episode. Im Brazilian born in the 80s and i didn´t knew all the details, specialy the M. Ali part. Thanks a lot.
Float like a Cadillac and sting like a beemer
lol nice
@Hamza Mansoor I thought it was Lightning
@Hamza Mansoor and you call yourself a fan 😂
Puma also produced from 1974 to 1987 the GTB, a fiber glass body front engine coupe which was powered by a 6cylinder 250 c.i Chevrolet engine. Was kinda fancy at the time! It's biggest rival was the Santa Matilde SM 4.1, which was powered by the same engine and was fiber made as well. Both great (and expensive) cars at the time!
I love how he tries to pronounce our company names n shit and it's just, hilarious ( if you know portuguese )
Com certeza foi hilário ahsuahusbsus
"Arua Caruiá"
saou palou em ves de são paulo o que diseste e verdade
FURRY
As a brazilian , I found so strange listening to american people talking about brazilian cars, but it's SO cool at the same time. Keep goin!!!
Yesss 🎉🎉🎉.Now we need a up to speed of Gurgel Motores.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
A little comment from Brazil here. My uncle owns one of the old rwd Puma GTs, which he inherited from my grandfather that knew someone from Puma, I can see why the company was dying after a while. Although the car was insanely fun to drive, sound amazing and is very pretty, it’s unreliable and breaks down easily. My uncle is scared to even take out the car for a ride from fear of it breaking down. So yeah, great bud btw!
