      I thought very hard which game to support when Altered is on its last month of Kickstarter and Star Wars Unlimited Set 1 preorders. Either I buy 3 cases of SWU or pledge twice to 2nd most expensive bundle of Altered. I ended up choosing SWU because of the game mechanics. Altered is more boardgame-ish and it lacks 'combat' and less player interaction. I only played 2 other TCG's since the 90s, MTG and FAB and I really prefer the combat interaction between players rather than the adventure type mechanic Altered offers.

      @@acedobleacefunnily enough for me it was exactly the other way around! FAB takes the biggest share of my TCG experience and Altered has a completely new twist on some things with fleeting permanents and the reserve being an incredible mechanic to play with foresight and interact a lot. I feel it treads new ground whereas SWU is quite derivative of legacy TCG tradition. Not winning by combat is a nice side effect, it's just a wholesome and chill experience still with more than average strategic depth in ways other TCGs can't offer.

    Thanks for the video. I've personally fallen in love with the game and really enjoy playing it! I can't wait to get my first boosters and go play in stores.

    15 rares, 3 uniques in a 39 card deck.
    The cool thing with the rarities is that (once the game comes out) you can take a "meta" deck, and build it in a fully common form

    Hell yeah.
    One of the few TCG's i'm interested in actually playing & collecting besides MTG (including a couple others like Grand Archive)
    The design of the game seems super complex when you first look at it, since almost every single details is wildly different from most other TCGs, but once you actually understand the reason why each detail is the way it is, it's such an elegant & well-designed system.
    None of the changes are made just for the sake of it. Instead, each change, besides the core idea of Uniques, is made to complement & fix the problems of each other change in a beautiful song of synergy.

    I do like the idea of having the ability to print a copy of my cards to let a friend play without them having to purchase physical copies as well. I think it’s a great way to get new players into a game they are not entirely certain of investing in. I’m not a huge fan of the QR code on the cards but it serves a purpose so it doesn’t totally sway my judgment. I’m interested in Altered and probably will try to get some cards. I am intrigued by the game mechanics, I think racing an opponent rather than battling could be fun.

    Wow, another TCG. I'd give it a try, but I just don't have time for another game. I need to win the lottery so I can quit my job and play TCGs fulltime.
    It's refreshing to see a game try to improvise instead of creating another magic clone. I hope they succeed. For the collecting, my thoughts are:
    1. This looks good for the players. Should hopefully make the game more accessible to new players without a huge cash investment up front.
    2. I'm not sure if the collectors will be into this. They tend to prefer physical things. Since you're owning the digital card, the printed cards will have little value. It will be interesting to see if collectors buy into the game. If they don't, can the game survive without the collectors purchasing product?
    3. If they are printing cards when you want them, how does that effect them cost wise? I'm sure people much smarter than me factored that into their business model.
    It's refreshing to see someone take some risks and try to do things differently. Best of luck to them.

    this is to me the best modern TCG in terms of mecanics and flavor. i'll keep buying my Lorcana Display for collection and fast and easy games, i'll keep playing to magic through Commanders format. But this will become my main TCG, i find it better than Star wars (and prettier) and better than flesh and blood (less complexity in the cards mecanics, yet a lot to think about with these biomes and reserve.).

    I actually won two starter decks in one of their giveaways on IG, and I have really enjoyed the game. I love the art. I love the idea that the rare versions of the cards have different effects. For me, the QR code is just fine. Chaotic TCG similarly does the same thing with the codes, and those didn't bother me at all. Overall, it's a nice game!

    Like you, ive played dozens, if not hundreds of TCG's, by far my favorite form of gaming, but every time I try to watch a L2P Video (Including MainDeck) the game just confuses me. Almost like its trying to be overly complex for complexity sake. Ive scheduled a Demo at Gen Con hoping a hands-on will be a better learning experience. My LGS is also pushing this game hard, which frustrates me, because ive been wanting to get into Grand Archive and the closest store that supports the game is 127mi, big sad.

    I ended up backing the Kickstarter, and I do think the game is fun. Plus the art is delightful. The QR code is honestly fine, after a few games you don’t even notice it. However I have reservations about whether or not the game will last. They lean into the digital aspect in a way I’m not sure I’m comfortable with just yet. And while the game definitely feels fun, my buddy put it best when he said ‘it looks like a great mobile game.’ And I don’t know how this game will interact with the secondary market since it’s mainly through their own platform.

      I think the big differences are that most people aren't looking at this game to flip or "invest" and it's genuinely a fun game to play. The genuine interest combined with how unique it is - plus the fact that it's designed by a well-known board game dev (they made Mysterium and others) gives it a sort of legitimacy that Metazoo never had

      @@RedZoneRogue we can only just wait and see. Idk if a game like this will have gameplay longevity. Reminds me of a CCG more than a TCG.

    • @gorganiangranola

      MetaZoo leaned into a toxic finance community
      This game seems to be set up much more welcoming to a wide variety of people boardgaming and TCG whatever, I think it's tough to misread this as MZ only because it was backed heavily for completely different reasons (an immense amount of low amount starter pledges not only display flipping pledges)

      just play it, print and play is available on their website and you can play it on BGA or Exalters (unofficial). it's better than anything in the market (maybe not Magic the gathering tho :D, but more accessible)

    Played Altered multiple times on BGA, thought mechanics were meh at best, compared to Sorcery or FaB. Art is cool though. When I play Sorcery, I get a whole story that plays out on the grid. With FaB, I get a vibe that it's a heated battle and the combat is a slo motion exchange like in a Zack Snyder movie scene.

    Not at all interested in Altered. It seems alright. We're in a TCG renaissance it feels like and it's honestly overwhelming with how many TCGs are on the market. There's nothing about Altered that excites me or draws me to play it. At least it doesn't feel like a scam like MetaZoo did.

    Im still very skeptical that this game has any chance of survival. They still have not answered how they plan to combat theft which is made quite simple with the qr code. People could literally walk around drafts or people opening packs and grab qr codes. Kids that dont understand the system will be taken and not even know it until they eventually try to register a card.

    • @gorganiangranola
      @gorganiangranola 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      definitely tough to survive 2024 with the IP games drawing such big crowds so effortlessly
      but the QR isn't reasonably part of that, 8 people drafting will just scan their packs quickly and it's done, also with a table of people paying attention what do you expect to happen?
      This game treads a lot of new ground and it's very noticeable in many areas people have all kinds of difficulties developing expectations, a lot of wild and outlandish expectations are around

  • @ValariaxSword
    @ValariaxSword 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    A lot of red flags with this game and the secondary market. I played Warhammer Champions which is one of the earlier TCGs that let you scan in cards. What ended up happening is you would crack your free or cheap digital packs, get all the cards you need and never buy any sealed. LGS and online sellers who bought a bunch of sealed products got hosed because no one wanted it. Another issue is once the card is redeemed its resale or trade value plummets. Then you have to have multiple listings for claimed vs unclaimed and making sure you mailed the correct one. It was a mess. Lastly, having a unique rarity for all cards is going to be extremely taxing to collect. Imagine needing unique copies of all commons and rares.

    • @RedZoneRogue
      @RedZoneRogue  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      I don't think it'll be nearly as bad as you describe. In fact I think it'll be very smooth and easy. I was actually one of the "Exemplars" for Warhammer Champions so I'm very familiar with how that went down (can go back and find some of my old videos on it even haha). The BIG difference here is that there will be an official digital marketplace for card ownership. Physical ownership wont mean anything at all - it's 100% done digitally. You should NEVER have to buy/trade for a physical card. After you get your digital ownership, you simply have Altered print the card for you and never even have to wait for the seller since it's all done via Altered.

    • @RedZoneRogue
      @RedZoneRogue  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Oh and there's NO digital packs AFAIK. You HAVE to buy physical boosters from your LGS to then scan in - thereby keeping your LGS relevant
