    Thank you for an entertaining hour, you did well to avoid cursing at some points. I particularly enjoyed the video because the 20 ton mobile crane was the first Dinky Supertoy that I was given as a birthday present when I was knee high to grass-hopper.

      Thank you, I was going to use the old pin originally, but I needed to drill out the middle of it, but it was such hard metal my drill bits just had no effect, so I had to come up with the plan b lol!
      They are nice castings and well worth getting one, they don’t seem to go too expensive on eBay either!

    Just brilliant to see how you’ve resurrected this...this is my second favourite model which sits in a box in my garage...not damaged just play worn.

    Nice one Nick, when you pulled that first string winder and that spring popped out I thought where did that come from, then I saw the other one still in there and thought wheew that was lucky. That boom was bad, turned out great.
    Another one saved! We will all be glad when we can go out and restock our supplies.
    Be well, cheers Robert.

      Thank you Robert, I was relieved that I saw that spring land lol, could have spent hours on my hands and knees looking for it😳😂
      They are gradually lifting the restrictions over here now, Too soon I think, but I drive past the shop where I get my paint from every day, to and from work ,but it hasn’t been allowed to open yet, frustrating when you can see the rack full of paint through the window!🤨
      Take care, all the best Nick.

    Hi Nick,
    Just getting hungry to restore one of these, I've been predominately restoring emergency vehicles since past year, so I'm shifting theme to do classic old cars and lorrys, all the U. K. types.
    Just wondering where you sourced the cable/string for this crane, and what method for preening the axles etc.
    I'm only one year doing the restorations but need to learn the process for redoing axles.
    Re the decals, I don't have computer or printer so I rely on ebay for decals/stickers, lots of them are shite, but I've finally found a company Black's quare decals, he's top class.
    Love watching you're restorations and I've them saved to my favourites page.
    Bob Willis and you and Martin Dare are huge help to me and possibly everyone around this troubled stone/World we are living in.
    I hope to send you a few photos of some my restorations if that's okay.
    I tend to do what they call code 3.
    Tommy in Dublin. 🤗🙏🏆🎨

    Really entrigued what you did to replace the rivet connecting the crane cabin to the base plate, however, if you heat the rivet it does 'give ' and bending back into its original shape can be achieved although its does take time and patience..I then make a mould of both rivet and washer ,out of white metal . You did a better job of that than Corgi Bob!!!!......and I supplied the Coles truck!!

      Thank you Jeff, sometimes it’s difficult to think how to do things and that’s all I could think of at the time lol, it is good to find out what other people do because there must be a few different ways to do things like in this case, I must admit, I’m not a huge fan of using nuts and bolts, it’s probably stronger but not so neat!

    Well done Nick you really worked on this one,quite a big heavy old thing compared to your other restos. You seem to enjoy the larger models and so do we when you do them. All the best from Ian & family.

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Ian, yes I like the bigger and more commercial type of model vehicles to restore, I’ve always been into lorries and had a few real ones over the years, now I’m getting older, I don’t seem to have the energy to be playing around with the full size stuff any more, so the models are great!
      Take care and all the best, Nick.

      Cheers Martin, the yellow is a bit too light, should have been more orangie yellow but that’s all I had, getting very low on paint now ☹️, might try and get some rattle cans on eBay and see if they send them!! The camera stand is ok but I keep banging my head on it now lol, might try my go pro or the camera I use for my music videos, trouble is you can’t see what you are filming, it’s all guess work lol!
      Stay safe, happy restoring, all the best Manvie ( my friend in Jersey French!)😊

      Thank you Juan, trouble is I keep on banging my head on the camera now instead!😂 It was a bit more of a challenge with this one, but it makes things a bit more interesting especially when the bits go flying in different directions!🤦🏻‍♂️😊👍

    Really nice job Nick you done yourself proud with this one buddy, great job on straightening that boom/jib also I like that bracket you made for your camera I may be stealing that idea before you patent it lol so simple but brilliant 👍👍👍 keep up the great work mate stay safe

      Cheers thank you, good luck with making a camera bracket, mine’s ok but it’s still not ideal, I could do with changing my camera I think, it’s very old and doesn’t have enough wide angle on it, but it does for now!😊👍

      Tell me about it Bob, all the bits we’re flying in all directions with this one 😂😂😂also I didn’t realize how much I was going out of shot either, it was only when I had uploaded it onto here I thought I’d better watch it back and I noticed!😳🤦🏻‍♂️😂
      By the way if you see me using the super glue without your invention ( the Bob Willis dish mop special glue applicator) don’t panic, it’s because this video and I think 4 more I have ready, we’re all done before I made it!😉😊👍
      Take care mate, looking forward to your next video!

  • @frasermartin6728

    I am just about to attack one of these myself, so rewatched this video - very, very useful. Had you considered fastening the baseplate to the chassis as part of the chassis build, then fitting the assembled crane part? I am thinking it might be less unwieldy... I am also thinking about different colours: I have a Thornycroft Mighty Antar to do as well, and at Martin Dare's suggestion, I am thinking of a small diorama for both models, and propping it with either a bulldozer or some 'pipes' for the crane to 'lift'... with both main vehicles being in the same colours, as though they were both from the same company, working on the project.

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have a good idea there, It didn’t cross my mind to put the crane part on after the base plate, sometimes the most obvious things don’t always register lol. I like those Thornycroft Mighty Antars been watching out for one on eBay lately, that sounds great to do a diorama, should look really cool with the two models in the same company colours! I want to do some more Dinky Bedford TK’s in the colours of the firm I used to work for and all the different variations of trucks that we had, a skip Lorry next I think😊👍 good luck with your project!
      Take care, all the best, Nick.

      @@crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739 Cheers. I'll let you know how it goes. Decision is an actual company or an imaginary one, and if so, which or what to call it. I'll get Ian at Black Square decals to make me up some proper decals for both commercials, and maybe a Land Rove 109 support vehicle... now, to find some cigar tubes for pipework!

    Nice job Nick. Question: instead of gluing a rivet inside a rivet to join the two large pieces why not screw a self tapper into the larger rivet?

    • @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739
      @crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Walter, yes I suppose I could have done that, I never really thought of it although I’m not really one for using screws, but I must invest in some self tappers now you have mentioned it incase of something like this on future restorations, cheers for the idea😊👍

    Have you considered buying an airbrush.?
    You waist a lot of paint whith spray cans.
    You don't have to spend much and you can
    Decant the paint from spray can.
    Plenty of videos on TH-cam..
