    For a 3.5 mm plug that has 3 connections (Tip, Ring , Shield), tanner tech is saying to connect the ground pin of the mic to the Shield and connect the positive pin on the mic to both the Tip and the Ring connections of the 3.5 mm plug. Looking at the 3.5 mm plug, the Tip connection is the outer tip of the plug. Next to the Tip is the Ring connection. Next to the Ring connection is the Shield connection. Note that the Ring connection is sandwiched between the Tip and the Shield. As stated in the video. the Tip and the Ring are effectively shorted together since both are connected to the positive pin on the mic.

    Well done! A great explanation and a great way of comparing different mics and also showing that the Microphone had the bias voltage there.

    Very good explanation of how it works, but the most important part was skipped. which pins on the mic get soldered to which parts of the jack. Sad, still looking...

    Excellent Job, nice explanation of the different types of Mics with schematics. With the computer connection explanation I can finally hook up my Heil HC-6 head set to my computer. The Heil has a mono jack that was shorting the computer 5v to ground.

    How do I actually connect the two wires to the microphone? I have a laser disco light, the microphone came loose. I don't know how to connect them back.

    Can these be made into stereo and used with USB-C on a android smartphone? I would like to make a mic that looks like the Sony ECMLV1 and Olympus ME-51S but has the EM272 and USB-C connection where you can just plug it onto your phone and then record video with a nice enhanced mic for lots of ambient pickup, is this possible?

    Wow, terrific explanation. Thank you so much! So I have a question. There are different sizes of these electret microphones on Aliexpress. How does the size affect the performance when connected to a computer in the manner you showed in this video? Can I just simply order, say, a 16mm one and expect much higher quality audio or would it require more power?

    So you didn't show the full connections to the TRS 3.5mm jack!....if you have 2 pins(connections) coming from the microphone going to the TRS jack connection do you connect the connections on this jack to the Tip and sheild?...or do you leave out the sheild and just connect the Tip and Ring?...please advise as you only have 2 connections coming from the mic!

    Hey Tanner, please please, for the sake of the older set of your audience try to make your drawings a little larger. No, a lot larger. Use a big fat sharpie and then scale the drawing so the fat line is still legible. Great video! I know none of this stuff but you make it understandable. Thanks again. Your Grandfather must be very proud to have such an accomplished grandson. Cheers!
    PS love that meter! I bet your Grandfather has a pretty cool slide rule somewhere on that work bench.

    Here is how to wire the microphone to the 3.5mm jack: If using a TRRS 3.5mm jack, then connect S to electret positive terminal and the second R to the electret negative terminal. If using a TRS 3.5mm jack, then connect T and R to electret positive terminal and S to the negative terminal.

    i use a microphone that is plugged into a desktop computer in the microphone plug on the back of the motherboard and i use audacity in ubuntu 16.04. i can here the microphone but it is not loud enough. their is a thing called "48V Phantom Power Supply" but this is for Laptop which does not give the microphone its full 5 watt power. on my desktop it has that and so i was told that it would not allow me to increase volume. but could i use a "PRE-AMP" before i plug into the computer to increase its volume. or basically how do i increase volume.

    Do you know how to adapt a high impedence mic to a low impedence equipment?

    • @JP-rf7px
      @JP-rf7px 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tou use a matching transformer. 50,000 ohm inpedance in primary to 250 ohm impedance secondary. Good ones are $50-100. Cheaper ones maybe $20. but can overload easily with loud sounds.

    It is possible to use the microphone in voice call?

    • @DDBAA24
      @DDBAA24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually yes that is the safest way to make a phone call. Off topic , but still relevant , I was watching an interview Snowden did about how smart phones can spy on you (hardware not software). We all know the software is harvesting every screen press. When you plug in an AUX cable to your phone with nothing attached it kills the internal mic because it thinks your using a hands free device. By simply connecting one of these tiny mics to an AUX cable you can safely use your phone on speaker, and use the Mic to speak into. This video of Snowden will further explain , I am sure you will enjoy it th-cam.com/video/ucRWyGKBVzo/w-d-xo.html .

    • @mohitrahaman
      @mohitrahaman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DDBAA24 Plugging in any peripheral mic will not get the phone's OS to disable its audio routing, if it is supposedly logging mic data, it will just use the attached peripheral mic as the primary device and keep spying.
