I have a 2014 Passat TDI and i absolutely love it. Regular maintenance and coming up to 100k miles and the common water pump and timing chain. It’s my daily driver to work which I drive 50 miles every 3rd day to work. Much more room in the back seat.
Okay, I'm going to agree with you only because back in Sept of 2023 I bought a 2010 jetta TDI DSG with 145kmiles (current:153k). The original owners hadn't done a timing change, so I know I needed to do that. Then... some other things came up, like the rattling of the DMF. Changed that, and then the "throttle body". I'm glad I bought the car for only 5k. For these cars I'd recommend to people who can do the work themselves because having a shop do it is expensive. The newer 6speed dsg's were refined more and are a whole lot more smoother. Mines, a bit jolty, but not to bad. You'll also might experience the Dsg downshift click. For the emissions cars I'd recommend delete and tuning, or just tuning. I have not done that yet since I live in southern/central CA. Though I could probably get away with KermaTDI. I did take it on a 2000mile road trip. The car did great, and doesn't have an issue cruising 75mph up 6% grades.
