  • If you are looking for a pot that turns every tea into an easy-drinking session then look no further than this Golden Duanni Zisha from Yixing. I am amazed at how sweet, soft and thick every tea becomes - it literally changes everything that you put in from Japanese Greens to Blacks and PuErh.

    I purchased it…so excited to add it to my collection. Thank you for your in-depth review videos. I have purchased my ENTIRE tea collection of pots, cups, trays and teas from you over the past 3 years when I became a tea head …due to ALL your educational videos. I hope you never stop producing. Thank you. BTW…I really miss Celine, please tell hello.

    Don- you should do some before/after ph tests! Simple paper tests maybe? My guess is the clays move the ph to a slightly higher (less acidic) level.

    • @Mandragara
      @Mandragara 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The clay will absorb salts and minerals in general, softening the water. I don't think it will change the pH much, if at all.

    Really interesting pot. I feel the same way about the porosity/sweetening/easy seasoning. The thing is because it's so porous, wouldn't it turn out to be a messy seasoning to brew all types of tea? It's something to look into if selected as an all-star.

    22:11 Don says he "thinks this is a very porous pot" and then the camera switches and you physically watch a dribble of tea soak right in and vanish completely.

    I've been trying to convert regular sheng pu drinkers to use Jiangponi. It does work like magic, I used to think that Zhuni or Zini will preserve the high notes while porous clays are too muting. Turns out that reality is different from so-called "theory". Once well seasoned, Jiangponi does not mute good sheng. On the other hand, Zhuni and Zini can overcook or steam the leaf and result in burned taste, which covers over those delicate notes.

    8:21 😄 the „Wonder Pot“ … and it probably is. I have a pot made from lüni that seems to be the cousin of your golden duanni. Only I feel, instead of „punching a hole through“ the flavour notes you mentioned, it punches the spikier flavours of any tea into a sweet, soft dumpling. 😁 There’s so far only one tea type which I’ve found will absolutely not agree with my lüni pot, and that is very pure and fresh sheng. It’s as if the two kinds of sweetness - the pot’s and the tea’s - were at war with each other. Also, I’ve not yet dared to try it with teas that are too dissimilar or which stick out a lot, like shu puerh, because the pot definitely hands on some residue of one session to the next. - Not to forget: I also found your remarks on the transparency of the clay’s minerals and its impact on yan cha very instructive. Thanks for another lucid mini tutorial there. Btw, why have you been looking at the lid around 14:22 before you poured?

    I recently discovered these Mei Leaf TH-cam Videos and I am hooked. I ordered several Tasters right away and I am very exited for them to arrive - mostly Oolongs. Until now I have mostly ordered teas from Damman freres, Palais des Thes as well as sunday Natural. I am by no means an expert, but I preferred the teas from Sunday natural - also because they give so much detailed information about the sourcing and taste as well as offering test results for pesticides and radiation (I like their kabusecha). The other two shops offer only very minimal information and I mostly ordered a couple of scented teas from them (scented oolong from damman and rooibos from PDT)- I did not really appreciate their natural teas. But, as already mentioned, I am just starting my tea journey and I love all the in depth information don offers in his videos - I never want to buy artificially scented teas again :-) would love to know some of your expert opinions of the tea shops I mentioned.

    What happens if a clean tea (as white or green) be brewed in this kind of clay tea pot? Ever I had heard about clean teas can't be brewed in clay tea pot.

      It’s personal I love my white and green in porcelain but my partner who hates tea liked the white tea more brewed in my duanni teapot. I feel the pot tastes gentler and more round for me it depends on my mood and which white tea I am brewing. But I’m also a beginner! Still need to try a green but I will need another pot then 🙈

    Hi don, I saw a recommendation to cook/leave rice in a pot for the first time of use. But I was thinking maybe leaving fragrant rice to season a pot between uses? I'm new to tea brewing, but really enjoy your enthusiasm and it's helped my feel inspired about all things fine tea. Not sure if rice is a good idea to season though.. what do you think?

    Don I love it when you talk about clay. In your November 2018 clay pot video (one of my favorites) you said that Duanni is good for black tea. Ive waited and waited for you to carry one. I was breathless when you introduced this pot and bought it immediately. But your graph in this video seems like its not so suitable for black tea. Can you elaborate? Im not trolling. Ive already purchased this pot from Mei Leaf so if its not that suitable for black ill use it for something else.

    • @pkubek1
      @pkubek1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are couple of types of Duanni and I also read that some of Duanni are perfect for Black - the other for aged teas (also white)

    • @MeiLeaf
      @MeiLeaf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Duanni which I use for Black is not a Huang Jin (Golden) Duanni and is less porous. This pot works really well for Black tea from our experience - it softens and sweetens while reducing the woodiness. It really depends on if you want that experience or if you want a sharper tasting tea.
