This is a very quick and clean presentation of what Unreal can do. I am a Unity refuge so this is blowing my mind as zero coding is involved yet I recognize every single element involved in making a game

Hey 8GB should be fine for very basic things, but you're probably gonna hit a ceiling when you wanna use more advanced features.

Ive been messing with ue5 for two years now and have 3 long term projects going in it but i still enjoy these beginner vids because ue5 is such a massive program with so many tools that it's nearly impossible to soak it all up at once. I find its best to just keep reviewing what you might already know, it helps a lot. Sometimes you even just forget basic elementary methods in all your learning & experimenting.

great tutorial video! The random ball spawner almost always spawn my ball at the center even the print was very slight x and y variation almost identical for some reason. My blueprint looks identical to the one at 33:55 to my eyes.

I finally figured this out bc I had the same issue. I was adjusting the box in the "transform" part, but it has to be done under "Box Extent" which is under "Shape." Maybe that will help you.

Also something that people may not expect to be a problem or might not know why their project is running slow, is right before you create your project, you can change your quality preset to scalable instead of maximum so it starts if at lower settings for less beefy computers! You can change this in the editor though even if it's not initially changed!

Thank you for the kind words!
You could try just right clicking in in the open area to open up the node menu instead of pulling off a line from "Get Max Walk Speed" and see if you can find the node that way.
Also instead of searching for 'add' you could just search for '+' instead which should make it easier to find.
On the pin on the nodes you can also right click to change the data type it accepts if that didn't work.
I hope that will work out for you.

      Oh, that is strange.
Does it still crash if you delete all BP_Pickups from the scene and then press start?
Sadly in cases like these the logs and error messages UE gives us are often not very helpful 😅

@@CobraCode yep even if i delete every instance from the scene, also tried deleting the bp_thirdpersoncharacter but still nothing. Im probably gonna make a new project and go through it again bcz i wasnt that far into the video anyway

@@carrun0 I see, I'm sorry I can't really be of help. There are many things that could have gone wrong and be causing that issue.
Ok, Hopefully that will fix it!

Hi! Awesome tutorial, just one thing: In BP_PickupSpawner, while spawning it, I had to use "Get scaled box extent" istead of "get box extent" to get it to work. Is there a difference or are they the same?
PS: The tutorial is an absolute masterpiece, 10/10

Not quite sure, maybe just the name has changed over Unreal versions?

can you help? 28:54 you said to get the promote to variable, but when i do it it says promote to pin variables :(

    • @CobraCode
      @CobraCode  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, you mean this node?
      docs.unrealengine.com/5.0/en-US/BlueprintAPI/RigVMController/PromotePintoVariable/
Yeah that's definitely not what we are looking for and I'm not quite sure why that is happening.
Is the pin for 'Increase Amount' on the 'Collect Pickup' node showing up in green and as a float properly?
In that case all you'd really need to do is pull the line out and type promote to variable.
If that still doesn't work for some reason you can just go to the bottom left where the variables are shown and press the + Icon and create a new variable manually.
Then call it Increase Amount and set it as a float -> compile and set the default value to 20.

Worth mentioning that scale of box collider in the spawner seems to have no translation to box extend, you have to change extend on blueprint instance to have intended behavior.
