  • So what happened here was, I drove 50 minutes to the track in " CHILL MODE" . Lined up for the first round of a Money race, and quickly realized that I forgot to turn it off for the race. So needless to say I went out in the first round. It sucked so bad, I almost left on the spot.
    Very big lesson learned here!!
If you dont know what "chill mode" is, its a driving feature on Tesla models that Chill mode” limits the acceleration and instant torque released to the electric motors adding to the overall efficiency. makes acceleration and braking much smoother and if you drive properly it will make you more efficient.
i was trying to retain as much battery as i could for the race track, then blew it 100% on the first race.

ouch! I can see how that would be really easy to do. Better luck next time. I still have a while until my local track opens up.

Yeah man, mistakes were definitely made. It happens to every racer. Gas cars, electric etc. I learned from it, it won't happen again.

Josh , lining you up LOL . Normal driving in Chill mode doesn't save more battery then normal driving in Plaid mode . That track is pretty slick for regular street tires

Normal driving in chill mode DOES save/concerve battery more than normal driving mode . Model 3 doesn't have plaid mode.
Tesla even recommends using chill mode to conserve battery life while driving.
I'm on michelin pilot sport 4s tires. Sport performance tires.

@@SilentPerformanceRacing you are wrong. Chill mode just decreases the pedal sensitivity. Yes, that forces you to accelerate slower and thereby is more efficient. However, if you drive conservatively in sport/normal mode it will have the exact same efficiency as chill mode if everything else is equal. Never take it out of sport/normal mode.

@@LearningFast I believe we are speaking about the same thing just saying it in different ways. When you're in chill mode it limits acceleration. And that is per Tesla. Tesla also notes that using sport mode or plaid or insane mode will use more battery life then the other Alternatives because it's drives to keep the battery at a greater temperature.

@@SilentPerformanceRacing no we are not saying the same thing. There is a significant difference between Dragstrip, Plaid, Ludicrous, and Track mode vs. Sport, Normal, and Chill mode. The track focused modes all use more power by heating or cooling the battery. However, Sport, Normal, and Chill don’t do that. They are all equal if driven in the same manner.
With a model 3 “Track” mode is the only mode that would be less efficient than the other modes. Track mode also provides slightly slower acceleration so only use it for tight cornering or drifting.
If this particular car has a normal mode then it doesn’t even have track mode. Only the Model 3/Y Performance has that mode.
Again, leave it in Sport mode ALWAYS and simply drive slower to achieve optimal efficiency for the car.

Are you coming to Knox this Saturday for the no prep event ?

No I won't be at knoxville dragway.
They don't allow AWD to run there except Big tire and small tire.
      That's just absolutely unrealistic.
400hp car vs small tire and big tire cars?

Was this a Plaid and was it in Plaid mode? In Chill mode a Plaid is no faster than a stock 300HP ICE car, with a 0-60 times in the 7 second zone!
