4K/60p: LIRR M3 Front Window Far Rockaway to Valley Stream

- From last week. Had the day off and looked around for more of these. Took an M3 to and from Far Rockaway and went all the way to Atlantic Terminal. Ended and started from Valley Stream to conserve battery on my phone.

Original Far Rockaway station was elevated. the part over Mott ave was removed in late 1955 in preparation for the A train taking over the line from Far Rockaway to Rockaway Park and across Jamiaca Bay to the el at Liberty Ave. the ground level terminal station for the LIRR was built in 1958.
Growing up, Far Rock was my "home branch." Though a bit slow going (?), the view out the front of the M3 on this line brings back many fond memories! Nice job recording it!

See they've got PTC Transponders on the Branch. The train stop placement at Inwood is mind boggling. The front seems to be 1/2 way to the next station.
Even playing at 2X speed, this ride is like so slow that I think that I would kill ...err, forget it. 😃

It’s a “spring switch.” It’s meant for a train to go through it without breaking it.

@@dimarscars329 Actually automatic safety switch. It snaps over but doesn't go back when the train trails through it.
@@MrMaster767 that makes more sense. The Spring/Slip Switch in Concourse Yard (NYCT IND) can only handle speeds required to go through the wash, which would be less than 10MPH

Yeah it goes on the Babylon branch straight through all the stations except for w Hampton n Hampton s Hampton and e hampton

Yes, they still go down there.

How does the engineer know whether it's safe to leave Far Rock? I didn't see a signal before the first switch
The switch to the West of the station is an automatic safety switch. When trains make trailing point moves through them, they snap over.
They get permission from Valley Tower to proceed from the station onto main track.
What are those white sticks and lines at the crossings?
They are used so Cars don't turn onto the tracks because their GPS told them to.

I believe they are used for cars to not hit into pedestrian and for pedestrian not to walk into a car at least I hope

Some go to Penn, some go to Brooklyn
Can I carrier mi bike on the LIRR ?
Off Peak only, and you need a permit.
