Here is a snippet I made many years ago with scenes from what you would have seen on the Weather Channel in 1990. This was the last year of " You Need Us for Everything You Do", it can be heard throughout the video.
Ironically, "You Need Us For Everything You Do" is essentially the plea TWC is using to convince people it's such a life-saving resource that needs to be on DirecTV...
They were pretty laid back on the network back then. There were a lot of bloopers since it was live nearly 22 hours of the day (outside of the commercials and local forecasts). There were two hours (3-5am) where they would rebroadcast the 2am hour to do studio maintenance.
Some wonderful tidbits! I completely forgot about that Jeanetta Jones "cheese" bit - I haven't thought of it in over 15 years! Thank you for posting your classic TWC footage! - Chazz
30 years ago...I want to The Weather Channel that year on Thanksgiving weekend. Bonnie McLaughlin, shown from 6:00 to 6:52 in the "Eating Smart" segment, gave myself and my parents a tour. Bonnie is Declan Cannon's wife. We learned some thing I didn't know at the time. One of them, was that the female OCMs went by their maiden names (the married ones, obviously).
If only the Weather Channel could go back to being useful... I don't think I have tuned into The Weather Channel for at least 5 years. I get my weather from my WeatherStar 4000 Simulator.
Those Special Presentations - back in the days when they had one documentary program PER MONTH, and they explained a lot of the science behind the weather (solar interference), And 6:53 Jeanetta Jones' famous info spot on cheese and entertaining. To this day, I remember brie and camembert cheese. LOL.
My dad and I used to watch these on mornings we would have plans to mow the lawn. We were in Ohio at the time. The local forecast would show the cities, and Youngstown Ohio one day said: "Smoke." (We didn't live there) This became one of our inside jokes until he died. We watched these so often that we had the local forecast tunes memorized and would often hum them. He's been gone 20 years...I still miss him.
man, this just goes to show ya how much TWC sucks nowdays. everytime i do flip it on it's always some pre-recorded programming. so much for keeping people up to date on severe wx.
The year my brother was born. Hard to believe how different many channels were compared to now. Everything's so corporate and shallow now. When I think of the Weather Channel, I still think of how it was in 2005 to 2009 when I was younger. The music was pretty nice too. Once in a while, the new ones plays some decent jazzy stuff, but it's not the same. They're always playing the same generic jingle over and over in the local weather segments. (honestly, though, if you want local weather now, you're better off getting the channel on cable. the satellite verison only shows the big cities)
@ntxguy: i liked the weather channel back in 1990 and 91 better than i do now...they were more relaxed and about weather, not about shows featuring hurricanes or snowstorms that happened decades...other than jim cantore, everything has changed regarding the weather channel from then to now...
jimbobv4 A show on tornadoes and hurricanes. It was hosted by Dennis Miller and Liz Jarvis who used to be on during the mornings on TWC in the 80s. It was a live show when you could call in with your questions about storms. I had recorded the show in 2nd grade bcz I was such a weather nerd in school
The Weather Channel back then was cool and now, thanks to NBC-Universal and Comcast, the network STINKS BIG TIME Thank GOD for WeatherNation - The NEW Weather Channel Check it out folks
That was one version of the many of the Weather Channel theme in the late 1980s through 1990. "You need us, the Weather Channellllll........For Ev-ry Thing You Do!"
fetal organs for a dolla niqqa holla Actually, that's the downtown Atlanta skyline (The Weather Channel's based there). Notice the cylindrical Peachtree Center building.
Justin Hill Oh, it wasn't the city itself (it doesn't look like New York anyway), I just doubt seeing a low-flying plane in a large city area would really fly nowadays, no pun intended.
Vivian Brown! I had a crush on her. I used to watch the weather channel as a kid for hours before elementary school in the mid/late eighties. I recall them always having American Airlines, Daihatsu cars and Folgers coffee commercials. The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!
So cheesy, yet SO awesome...(yes, I mean that both ways...lol)...It's like a whole different channel compared to now. Talk about depressing. I put it on now and instantly want to go back a couple decades! And let me just say right now - Social Weather?!? @$#%@! OFF!!! The one who thought of that little wretched idea should be shot! Every dam time I put TWC on, within 5 mins, they're talking about 'Social' weather! I don't give @$%! what some guy in Utah is saying! And neither should anyone else!
I'd give anything to be able to go back to those days!!
Weather Channel always had the best music, especially jazz.
I enjoyed the easy listening 🎶tunes🎶 😃
@@dougfredricks2017 Me too. This stuff always helped me sleep at night.
@@sabre926 I was lucky to also find some of the 🎶tunes🎶 online to build up my music-library ☺
So much Yamaha DX-7!! The most famous electric piano patch ever.
SO COOL!! I love 90's jazz fusion!

haha anyone else hear the YEAAA at 0:50? LOL

I was about to ask WTF that was cause it wasn't a yeaa lol
Thanks for the memories. This was a year or two after I started watching The Weather Channel, and... certainly these were the glory days.
0:50 What's with that sound of a man puking?
I miss Jeanetta. She was always my favorite on TWC
You betcha! That was one of her great sayings.
Me too
The Weather Channel used to put me to sleep as a kid.
Some wonderful tidbits! I completely forgot about that Jeanetta Jones "cheese" bit - I haven't thought of it in over 15 years! Thank you for posting your classic TWC footage!

It's still amazing out there.
My favorite part is how the VHS messes with the pitch of the audio in the tape
Same here, I was in Junior High at the time. I also remember the local forecast in the morning.
I'd like to take a 10 minute clip of one of these old broadcasts, hook it up to my TV and pretend it's 1990.
Ahh...memories!!! Thanks for posting. This brings me back to when I was 10 years old
R.I.P. Jeanetta Jones 1960-2021
I didn't know she passed away until the other day
Wow, I can't belive how young Marshell Seese was at 1990. Not to mention how long he was at TWC.
You are a wonderful person for uploading this stuff.
Holy crap! Declon Cannon. I haven't heard that name in years!

i like the little end part about nutrition. that was making me snackish
Aww R.I. P Jeanetta you was one of my favorites
Haha, tips on serving cheese from The Weather Channel! That's so awesome.

Jeff Morrow with a moustache!!! THAT is definitely the olden days!

That Part with the Clouds is Taken from "HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN".
Local Forecast's date: Thursday, Oct 8 1990. 1990 = 2018

Like 2005-2009 Weather Channel wasn't already 'corporate', lol. To lump it in with 1990 is ridiculous.

I remember this one 1990
That red screen used to terrify me when I was young
Talking about that HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN Footage, Is Anyone Else a Fan of the Series?
lil segment around 2:56 was interesting
My grandma hated that I loved watching the weather channel
WeatherSTAR jr didn't come out until 1994.
We never knew how good we really had it…
I wonder if they had an intern ring the doorbell at the end of that spot.
They had singing on the weather channel!!??
Anyone else hear someone say YEAH! in the background at 0:50? Lol.
Anybody know who was the voice of TWC back then? Always wondered who did the network's promos back then.
Jeff Morrow..WOW! LOL
What was the special presentation at the beginning?
Thanks for posting!

Is Rich Johnson the one from 3:34 to 3:36?
that music at 3:20 is eeeeeerie lol
Sounds like something from the group Boards of Canada
B very
There's something kinda creepy about it, and the misty weather adds an eerie feeling. Something dark but almost fascinating.
@sabre926 i like rap/hip hop the most, and i even agree with you.

no it doesn't.
I liked the cheese part.

That was one version of the many of the Weather Channel theme in the late 1980s through 1990. "You need us, the Weather Channellllll........For Ev-ry Thing You Do!"
You know that's what we all came for. Badass music on the weather channel in the 90's. Hell yes. Here it is.
It really sounds a lot like a song from the Rippingtons. It could've been from them. But it seems that's not the case.
Wait! What was the special presentation??
Used it for the intro. It was called Dangers Edge
@@nhwxtracker Dangers Edge aired in 1991, not 1990.
WTF was that at 0:50
Sounds like old people lung problem or something
Is this was on the vcr?
what's the name of the music ? 3:50
it's like, a full version of their theme song at the time. i doubt you could find a separate version of it
***** ... ??
Separate version ??
( versiones separadas ?? " in spanis " )
