❤ great tutorial thank you so much! Just a little bit of a tip: I personally find that if you ONLY have "regular" yarn and can't really afford to purchase the more expensive ones like the corded, macrame and others with more density, you can use any durable strength materials from old clothes or even leather from an old hand bag or boots or jacket. Perhaps you have some old jeans... You can cut the materials either into long strands and crochet them into an oval base, or any shape for your desired bag. If you are using a thicker material like denim or leather simply cut the shape and using a small hole punch, puncture holes all the way around leaving small space between each hole about 1/8" as you'll work the yarn thru each one in a single crochet of 3 rows. This will secure a tight bottom... Ensuring that your bag is sturdy.*simple hack tip: If you don't have a hole punch handy, then use scissors, which any of us here do have and cut a tiny (very tiny) slit in placement for the same spots as the "holes" would go, leaving the same diameter between each of the 1/8" or so. And weave your yarn thru and do the same as above-mentioned to secure a sturdy bag🛍️ and that's just a little tip for some who might want to make a large project or multiple ones as gifts, etc. (Which is one of my current projects for the ladies in my Bible Study class) I'm so happy to have found this video as it gave me a great idea 💡 of what I needed to achieve basically the same thing without breaking the bank, AND the ability to use materials I already had that would otherwise be taking up space in my wardrobe... Giving them a new life as a fancy pantsy purse👜

@billiejennings9127 try to keep your stitches on the looser side. If you make them too tight it’s definitely more difficult. Also it takes practice to keep your stitches loose so don’t get discouraged. Keep practicing.

I just made this bag but instead of cording I used the Mary Maxim Home yarn (3 cakes) it was very easy to work with and soft as butter so I got the bag done a lot faster without needing the break. It’s more of a T-shirt yarn so it’s a cord filled with poly fill to give it a plump cord structure that’s soft and squishy. I used hook one size smaller since the Home yarn is quite plush and stretchy and it gave a more solid unified weave with not gaps. Once each cake was just about done I switched colors at the same stitch as on the video. All in all I’m sure my dimensions are a little different (laying flat 16 inch horizontal 14 1/2 vertical) without the straps but this yarn made for a sturdy but soft bag with a good amount of stretch that looks fantastic. Weaving in the ends was a breeze and did not take long at all however I recommend taking your time since you can puncture the project yarn with a upholstery needle. Thank you for the easy tutorial! I’m going to make a bunch of these as Christmas gifts this year to stuff with goodies!

I made a bag before I saw your tutorial. The pattern used Sugar and Cream Cotton yarn and doubled the yarn. It turned out really nice and was not too difficult to crochet with the cotton. The only change I would make in my bag would be to add stiffer handles. The pattern had you crochet your own handles which are not as stiff as I would like. Thank you for your tutorials.

By far the best bag (and tutorial) to be found. So easy and turned out great. I don't have a tapestry needle so I just pulled the threads through with a smaller hook and crisscrossed the handle hooks through the little holes since I couldn't push the hook through those tight stitches. Looks great! Thank you so much for the tutorial!!

      Hi,
Did you work in the back loop single crochet? I followed the instructions but mine is not building the sides up like a purse looks like a braided rug. 🙈Frustrated I haven't received a response from my initial Inquiry and want to get this bag finished. I watched her tutorial multiple times and following it precisely. I am NOT working in the back loop, just regular single crochet. Thank you!

I would like to make this bag but I have a few questions. I do not know how to crochet - do you think I can manage this project? I have a bad back, is there a way to make it lighter? Thanks.

Wanted to make the bag a little bigger by adding a row with increases, I followed the general rule with increases going into previous rounds' increases - but the whole thing suddenly started twisting terribly at the ends. Any ideas on how to fix that? 😅 Should I have gone with (inc, sc) situation instead? Or will it even itself out as I go?

Was I supposed to Increase for the base 5 rows or just the first row?
